Avni: NAHI.

Neil looked at her in shock. Why did she almost scream when all he was asking is just a lift to her.

Neil: tum aise kyu react kar rahi ho? Maine sirf itna kaha hai ki tumhari gaadi kharab hai aur main bhi ghar hi ja raha hoon to saath chalte hai..

Avni looked away thinking something. Neil could read her expressions had almost immediately switched to panic once he mentioned about offering her a ride.

Neil: Are you okay?

Avni: haan.. mai..main theek hoon.. lekin main manage kar lungi.. mujhe tumhare saath nahi jana..

Neil: Unbelievable. tumhari ego hai ke Pahaad yaha bhi tapak rahi hai...

Avni: Ego nahi hai it's just mujhe ghar nahi jana...

Neil: kyu?

Avni: kyuki... (sighs) mujhe ek site visit ke liye jana hai.. Shahgarh

Neil frowned in confusion. It was already 5 in the evening and two more hours it would be dark. On the top of it tonight is a thunderstorm as predicted by the meteorology department and she is saying of going to a site visit.

Neil: dimaag thikane pe hai tumhara? Shahgarh.. pata hai waha tak jane ke liye 3 ghante lagte hai... 5 already baj gye hai aur...

Avni: isiliye main keh rahi hoon tumse... main khud manage kar lungi tum jao...

Neil: listen.. main tumhe akela nahi chhodne wala.. Mausam kharab ho raha hai.. agar tumhe Shahgarh jana bhi hai to i'll drive you there.

Avni looked at him in surprise.

Avni: Neil dekho..

Neil: tum dekho... Gaadi mein se samaan nikalo.. lock karo.. aur chalo...

His words were stern and authoritative. No doubt how she agreed once and for all.

Avni nodded her head meekly and walked to his car. Neil shook his head a bit at her and then sat on the driving seat. He looked at her for once then looked straight.

Avni found it weird. She had already got in his car agreeing to his conditions then why isn't he starting the car.

Avni: mere paas pandit ji ka number nahi hai.

Neil: haan to pandit ji ko call hi kyu karna hai?

Avni: nahi mujhe laga shayad tum gaadi mahurat dekh ke chalate ho... Ab start karo...

Neil understood her sarcasm and rolled his eyes.

Neil: waah yeh to nayi baat pata chali ki gaadi chalane ke liye mahurat hota hai...

Avni: humare yaha nahi hota... Aap hi ka hai...

Neil: to tumhare yaha seat belt lagane ka hota hoga...

Avni: kyu?

Neil: kyu ki abhi tak bina seat belt ke baithi ho... Laga lo...

Avni looked at herself. She was sitting without seatbelt. She nervously bit her lip and tried to pull the belt but failed. Her mind was wandering somewhere. She was not even able to concentrate on such a trivial thing.

Neil facepalmed himself at her actions. 'Don't know what does she think of herself?' He thought to himself.

Neil: STOP!!

Avni at once left the belt strip and sat still. Neil leaned close to her and did it for her.

Back to his seat Neil turned on the ignition and started. Avni sat there looking out of the window. About half an hour into the drive avni's phone rang.

A tinge of shock came up on her face. She looked Neil. His focus was on the road. Avni took a deep breath and silenced the call.

Neil had seen all this from the corner of his eyes. He felt it weird as why did she silence the call after looking at him but since it was her personal life, he chose not to interfere.

Few minutes later the phone rang again. She did the same this time too.

Neil: imagine main yaha nahi hoon... Call le sakti ho tum.

Avni: nahi... Urgent nahi hai... Customer care walo ka hi hai...

Neil: tum customer care walo ko message bhi deti ho ki baad mein call karna... Strange...

Avni: tum mera phone check kar rahe the?

Neil: nahi bas tumne call kaat ke message likha to estimate lagaya...

Avni: tum na estimate road ka lagao mera nahi...

She tried showing a bit of anger and turned her face the other side.

Neil: ajeeb ladki...

The drive continued for another hour uneventfully. Avni was feeling sleepy. She wanted to turn on the radio but due to bad weather she could not. Finally she decided to just lay back and wait for her destination. Looking out the window at the scary weather she sighs.

Avni: is mausam ko bhi aaj hi bigadna tha..

Neil: ab bechara aapko jaanta thode hai.. nahi to dar ke nahi bigadta... mausam hai kabhi bhi khrab ho saakta hai...

Avni: haan haan pata hai... mujhe mat batao...

She looked away. 

Neil: waise... shahgarh mein aisi konsi meeting hai jiske liye tum ek raat bhi nahi ruk sakti..

Avni: (in mind) ab isse kaise batau ki mujhe kisi se milna hai.. shahgarh ka to bahana banaya tha maine...

Neil saw her lost somewhere and sighed. He clicked his fingers in front of her trying to get her back in senses.

Neil: tumhara problem kya hai.. Aise kaise beech beech mein kho jati ho tum?

Avni: nahi woh main soch rahi thi ki.. meri meeting hai main tumhe kyu batau? meri marzi main chahe jab karu...

Before neil could say anything they both felt the car stopping.

Avni: ab isse kya hua?

Neil: tumhari baat sunke bechari ka mood off ho gya hai.. ab mujhe kya pata kya hua isko.. dekhta hoon..

He was about to open the door when avni held his arm. He looked at her hand wrapped around his arm and then at her face. She realised and left his arm.

Avni: woh mujhe kehna tha ki... sambhal ke.. bahar aandhi toofaan chal raha hai..

Neil: relax... jab main tum jaisi aafat ko jhel raha hoon yeh aandhi toofaan kya cheez hai? 

Avni rolled her eyes at his remark but said nothing. She looked out of the window. it was all dark the streetlights were not working and it seemed like an isolated road with no vehicle around.

Neil saw her expressions while looking out. 

Neil: main khyaal rakhunga... relax...

He pressed her hand gently and got down the car. OPening the bonnet he tried to find some fault in the car but was not able to. He tried connecting few wires again. Avni sat in the car  biting her lip. She was looking nervous. Neil knocked at the window She flinched in fear.

Neil: ghabra kyu rahi ho? main hi hoon...

Avni: haan to bol sakte the na.. aise bhooto ki tarah kya khatkhataa rahe ho..

Neil: arrey oh devi... maaf karo mujhe.. 

Avni: accha accha ab bolo.

Neil: shukriya... ab driver seat pe baitho aur ignition on karo...dekho chalta hai yaa nahi...

Avni nodded and shifted to the driver seat. She tried turning on the car but in was not effective at all.

Neil: pata nahi fault kya aa gya hai isme..

Avni who was sitting on the driver seat suddenly saw something on the dashboard. She gritted her teeth and got down the car.

Hearing the car door shut with a bang Neil looked at her from the side of bonnet.

Neil: kya hua?

Avni: yeh gaadi ab kabhi start nahi hone wali..

Neil: kyu?

Avni: kyuki gaadi hawa pe start nahi hoti... usko fuel chahiye aur fuel.. 

she held his hand and took him to the driver side window. He looked at the fuel meter it was empty.

Avni: isme fuel hi nahi hai..

Neil: WHAT!! is DD ke bacche ki to main... Bola tha isko fuel refill karwa dena...

Avni: oh hooo hooo!! gaadi aapki aur fuel refill DD kare.. Khud se nahi kar sakte kaam? Aur lambe tour pe nikalne se pehle fuel to check karna hota hai na..

Neil: mujhe nahi na pata tha ki raste pe papa ki pari jinko shahgarh jana hai atke huye milenge...

He rolled his eyes.

Avni: listem you...

She could not complete her sentence when she felt rain drops falling on her. She looked up the sky and tried covering her head.

Neil on the other hand looked up and smiled.

Neil: Baarish.. (smiles)

Avni: ab bas isi ki kami thi... (irritated)

She tried pulling the door handle but was not able to.

Avni: ab yeh kyu nahi khul raha... neil..

The rain was getting heavier with each passinng second.

Neil: arrey kya ho gya..

Avni: yeh tumhari gaadi ka darwaaza khul nahi raha hai..

Neil: kya? Main dekhta hoon.

He tries pulling the door handle of each and every window but nothing helped. Then he realised the car keys were still inside the car.

Neil: tumne gaadi ki chaabi gaadi ke andar kyu chod di?

Avni: kya?

Neil: hadd ho gyi hai ab to tumahri... yeh bhi nahi pata ki gaadi ki chabi andar hone se gadi automatic lock ho jati hai..

Avni: oh no... ab..

Neil: ab kya? baarish mein bheegte raho...

Avni looked around feeling worried.

Avni: please neil koi to tareeka ho ga na gaadi kholne ka.. Main baahar nahi rehna chahti..

Neil: koi tareeka nahi hai... Ab bas ek hi kaam kar sakte hai..

Avni: kya?

Neil: koi shelter dhoondhna hoga.. Ek kaam karte hai aage chalte kahi na kahi koi na koi to rehta hi hoga... Usise madad maang lenge...

Avni looked straight feeling nervous. She didn't knew what to say on at this point. All she could  was nod her head. The rain drops falling on her head were doing no good to her. 

They started walking along the road trying to find any sort of help that could at least save them from this heavy rain. Neil was walking in the front with avni closely following him. 

He saw a sharp light at some distance. It seemed like an indicator light of some sort of tower.

Neil: avni mujhe lagta hai aage kuch hai... chalo jaldi...

He hurried his steps towards the light but when he got response from avni He turned around to check her but was shocked seeing her missing. 

Neil: oh no... avni kaha gayi? AVNI!!

he ran back to the path where they were walking. He was shocked seeing avni laying near a tree. He immediately rushed to her.

Neil: avni... tum theek ho?

She was shivering badly. neil panicked seeing her condition. He patted her cheeks to get her back to conscious state.

Neil: avni...

He immediately removed his coat and covered her with it. 

She opened her eyes feeling a bit of relief from the continuous rain drops.

Neil: kya hua? tum theek ho?

Avni: nahi.. bohut thand... thand lag rahi hai...

He looked around to find something to cover her but there was nothing.

Neil: avni... suno... mujhe na aage ek factory jaisa kuch lag raha hai... please thodi der aur... waha hum safe rahenge.. chalo..

He stood up but stopped feeling avni holding his hand.

Avni: mujh mein himmat nahi hai... nahi chal sakti.. please...

Neil: avni dekho please thoda sa aur...

Avni: tum jao... mujhe yahi rehne do...

Her breathes were getting irregular and hoarse.

Neil: listen avni... main tumhe chod ke kahi nahi jane wala samjhi...

Avni looked at his face. There were tears forming in his eyes. Avni frowns.

She was on the verge of blacking out. The only thing she realised was feeling lifted of the ground and being rushed somewhere. 

It was neil who lifted her in his arms and ran towards the light. He was tensed seeing avni loose her conscious. getting wet in the rain was not a big deal, but what bothered him was avni  fainting. He himself don't know why was he crying for her.

Reaching at the foot of the light he saw it was closed factory. He tried pushing the door and to his surprise it was open. 

He immediately rushed avni inside and placed her on some dry clothes laying on the floor already.

He patted her cheeks, tried calling her name buut nothing worked. He took his phone only to fiind no signal.

Neil: damn!!  signal nahi hai/... kya karu? avni ko kya ho gya hai? main kya karu?

He went close to her again Tried patting her cheeks. there was no response this time too. he was shocked feeling her skin way too cold than normal. he checked for her pulse.

His eyes widened of shock.

Neil: oh no... iski pulse itni slow hai... 

He looks around... 

 Neil : ab kya karu? kya karu?

He thinks of something. his mind wandered back to the time when he had a life support training few years back. He knew what was the first thing he is supposed to do.

Neil: okay neil calm down... is waqt tere haatho meni ek jaan hai.. you'll have to save her...

He looked at the cold face of avni and closed his eyes. taking a deep breath he exhales and calmed his nerves.

Neil: mujhe yeh karna hoga...
