"Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the spiral arm of the Galaxy lies a small unregarded yellow sun."

The son of the sky once again took his rightful place,
On the horizon letting his rays cascade into the world.
Each day He shone and the world shone back,
Joyful to reflect those warm rays.
With the unblinking and all-seeing eye,
He is the totality of cosmos and the marker of time.
He dips into grime and revives every morning unscathed.
The light was his gift, bold and free,
For anyone who cares to open their eyes and watch the world awake.
He was "Ra", a fire ignited to bring warmth to creation,
And inspire us to seek our own beauty within.

I was in the pine forest, high up in the mountains. The forest looked enthralling in the sunlight. Right after crossing the wood path, I came across a lake - it was then it happened. He shone on the lake below, shining its deep depths. I reached for him in the waters. The gleaming water moved softly around my outstretched fingers. I pulled my hand out and watched it drip. They fell as if snatched by gravity, each one swiftly haloed by his gaze. Like a child, my hands reached up as if they could bathe in his light. His golden beams were radiating all around just like rays from heavenly bodies. It was there that a silent vow of being together consumed us. At that moment, I was alive, feet still and heart open. He was the wall of fire behind the heavens. The lake waters and wind witnessed our blooming love, a love so powerful that it could burn all misery.

"What was he like?" asked the lake waters and the wind to the immortal. She paused momentarily, and then looked towards the sky. A soft smile adorned her face.

"He was white, dreamy and
distant in a haze of dandelion stuff.
His musky scent, passionate like cherries and linen.
He almost felt like the countryside,
resting among the wispy clouds scudding across the azure sky.
He was playful; lived barefoot, wind tousled hair, laughter and songs.
He was just like a vintage movie.
His touches were chaste.
His hazel eyes, peaceful, luring
me into his soul -
making me feel like at home."

Her voice croaked, tears filling
in her eyes.

"But he left me in this shadowy trance of melancholy.
Our immortal love is
now in ashes.
Unkept promises rested upon
his eyelashes.
His burning absence left me blind."

said the immortal to the lake and the wind.

Dear Ra,

Today sunlight conjured the most brilliant of mosaic, reflecting from each leaf and wisps of clouds. Diffused agony in the light created art wherever it shone. I watched a myriad of lilies swaying in the warm breeze. Though they grow unnoticed by so many, they are more to my eye than a monet or any artwork that brings their likeness in beautiful strokes. They reminded me of you - the feeling of being alive.

You are gone but I can still hear the warm jazz in your giggles and feel your presence on my skin. It feels as if your hugs travel on the breeze as sweet as summer bloom. Even on dead wintry days, I feel your warmth like an old duffle coat, friendly and soft. All you need is to be with me, my love.

Your lover,
Khonsu
(a mere immortal).

The absence of her turned him bitter
It poured its oranges and reds into the horizon like a pot of molten lava.
No softness, beating down on the world relentlessly.
Suffocation encased mankind.
The wind and the trees stood mute
in his sorrow.
His harshness kept a million secrets.
Teardrops from his eyes turned into dewdrops on lilies.
He had become a ball of fire
glazing a brilliant amber
that the world couldn't stop to admire for long.

She stood watching the horizon where the heaven touched the earth. The mauve of the dusky sky intensified dissolved the tangerines and fire hearth. The white of her reddened with her years as blood poured and the paradise descended further behind the seam of the world.

The sun had set.

A calmness flew by the wind making her heart stop for a single second. The grasses whispered to one another hush. The birds huddled with their loved ones knowing of the day's end.

The land rested once more
And with that comes
The promise of the rising sun.
