It was a cold summer that late June night, Himson's eyes have been open for about 4 hours now. He was laying in bed, but he was unable to get a wink of sleep.

His room was pitch black, dark, devoid of any light. He thought something moved in the corner. What was it, he thought? Should he go check? Is it anything to worry about?

Himson closed his eyes in hopes that whatever he was seeing might go away. When he opened them, nothing changed. He only wished his mommy was here, she would know what to do. Suddenly, an idea hits him.

He should go and sleep with his mommy.

Without a second thought, he throws his converts to the side and hops off his bed. He consciously pretended to ignore the darkness around him and made his focus be on leaving his room and finding his mother.

He held his teddy in his arms, walking down the long hallway. His feet hit the floorboards, and they creaked, step, by, step, by, step.

Silent air forced the hairs on his legs to spring, his arms and chest began to shiver, he was paralyzed with fear but told himself to keep going. He needed to see his mommy.

He arrived at his Mommy's room. Her door was hanging open, some light conspicuously drawing him to look and see what was happening.

Slowly, he enters the room.

First, he peaked out from the side, looking in as though he was making sure nothing scary was inside. His fears soon flit away when he spots his mommy. Her back was turned from him, just staring out her window.

She was silent, abnormally silent.

"Mommy?" He slipped out, it was loud enough to get her attention. She turned, her face hidden by the darkness. She looked panicked, backed up, looked to her left, then to her right, then back at him and just stared at him. He saw her posture turn from fear to sudden and still easy. She walked toward him and bent down to meet at his level.

Her face was calm, she smiled, which gave Himson some comfort.

"What's wrong sweety? Why are you out of bed?"

"I..I...," he struggled to find the words. "I saw something in my room, I think it was a monster."

"A monster?"

Himson nodded, confirming his answer. He squeezed his teddy tighter, showing his mom the obvious fear he was having. She placed her hands on his shoulders. Himson struggled to see his moms eyes within the darkness, her smile, and her cheeks, being the only things visible to him.

He realized that his Mommy's hands were cold, chillingly so. It was weird, usually her hands were really warm. He takes a glance at her arms. They were really white. He could swear that it was sagging.

"Oh sweety, don't worry." her voice was still soft. He felt her grip get tighter. Her face got closer to his. He was able to see his moms face more clearly now. Her eyes..they looked..different...they were blood red, and her smile got wider, from cheek to cheek. Did Mommy's teeth always look so sharp?

"Mommy won't let any monster hurt you, I promise."

As his mother said this, a thought soon crossed his mind. Where was his father?
