The room was pitch black, so black that I couldn't see my hand in front of my face. A single overhead light flashed on, flashing on and off like a warning light. It did illuminate just enough to see the walls of the room and a single crate in the middle.
"No offence to your aunt, whom I've never met before, but this is a sucky way for her to do her will and this isn't the best escape room I've been in," Dean jokes. He walked around the room, seeing if there was anything to do or any distinctive markings on the walls.
"That's because this isn't an ordinary escape room, Dean. Oh, and that comment about not knowing me and about my will really hurt," a familiar voice spoke.
"Aunt Mary?" I looked around. Now, I don't really believe in ghosts, well I do, just not of my dead Aunt. I would believe in the ghosts of like murders and people who had violent deaths, but not my Aunt Mary who died a peaceful death.
"Yes, child, it is me. I downloaded my mind, or really my consciousness, into my computer system, the same one that runs the company and the house. I've been watching you and Dean, and I'm proud that you both made it this far. I am particularly happy that Dean lives up to all the great things you have said about him...and you are right, he isn't too bad on the eyes."
I could see Dean smirking at me from the corner of my eyes. Wow, really great way to throw me under the bus, Auntie, "I didn't talk about him that mu-" I started.
"I however did wish that you didn't have to do this challenge," her disembodied voice stated.
The wall on the left suddenly became transparent and we could see Ezekiel and Cassandra standing around their own identical room. They didn't notice us yet, but then again, I didn't even know if it was two-way glass.
"Now the rules are simple," my Aunt spoke, "In the crate there is a button that controls the air vents in the other team's room. If you decide to push the button, the other team's room will fill with hydrogen chloride, this causes chemical burns on the skin and the lungs to fill up with liquid, which will cause a slow and painful death. Whoever does not get gassed will win the will. The choice is yours, choose wisely."
There was silence for a few moments before I spoke, "We can't do this...I can't do this! What was she thinking? They were horrible to her, they all were, but that m horrible to deserve getting gassed!"
"I know and I agree, but I don't think they feel the same as we do," Dean pointed to the two adults in the other room. They were talking and sneaking glances at us. A pit formed in my stomach, they were planning on doing it, planning to actually kill us over money!
Out of all my family, I've always been the closest to Cassandra and Ezekiel. When Aunt Mary first died, they let me stay at their house and told me stories of all the places they visited. Even though I had Dean and Bruce, they were the only ones who understood me that first year, the only ones who I could call my blood-related family. But to think that they would kill not only me, who they have known for my entire life, but a stranger who they've never met before, really put things in perspective. This is really a dog-eats-dog world and money is apparently thicker than blood.
"Dean, no matter what happens, I need to say something. I love your smile, I love your laugh, I love how your terrible jokes can always cheer me up, I love the way that you care about your truck way more than you should. What I'm trying to say, is that I love  you, Dean U-"
Dean slammed his lips over my own. All the books, fanfiction, and cliches that I've read about do not do justice to the feeling of his lips on mine. Fireworks and butterflies were exploding all over my body, covering me in the feeling of Dean. Our mouths fit together like puzzle pieces. Dean's hands on my waist was the only thing holding me up.
We finally broke for air and he quietly breathed out, "I love you too, Gwen Davis, I have since the day you beat up Vincent Blake and looked like you had no idea what was going on.I will love you no matter what happens, if we live or die"
We looked over at the other team as soon as Ezekiel pushed the button. I hugged Dean close to my chest, wanting the last thing I would ever hear to be the heartbeat of the one who holds my heart.
Their room went dark, and I waited to hear the inevitable hiss of the room filling with gas, but instead heard my Aunt's voice,                              "Congratulations children, you have won my fortune. I am so proud of you my Gwen, you will run the company as I know it should be run. You both have chosen to be good people and that blood is more important than money, Cassandra and Ezekiel did not however, so they will get what they deserve, nothing and the guilt that they were about to kill two teenagers who have done nothing to them."
It all made sense now, she said, "I will give you what I have to give you," she never said what that was, and my relatives deserve nothing from her.
"You both now have complete ownership over Davis Technology Co., plus all of my fortune and estates," she finished.
Dean and I shared glances, "Thanks Aunt Mary, but for now, I think we will focus on finishing high school."
Dean smiled and kissed me passionately. I think I will stay out of the novels for once and live my own action-romance story. You never know what adventures will come along further down the path.
