Sophie POV

Even after she had been under the covers for many minutes, Sophie couldn't fall asleep, let alone find a comfortable position.

She tossed and turned, she was overheating and freezing at the same time. Her mind was blurry and thick, and she couldn't pin down one thought.

Sophie would much rather be awake right now.

She tried to call out for help, but no sound came out. She tried to yell, shout, scream, but still nothing happened.

Until the memories started to form shapes. And then they started to grow into figures. And then they were perfectly clear.

At first,  Sophie wasn't sure what was happening. She could see herself. Standing in a cave. She was much younger, maybe around twelve years old, and wore some kind of white tunic.

The view shifted, and showed another boy behind her. He was clothed in a deep red shirt, and his blonde hair was wind swept, almost looking styled that way. Sophie recognized him.

Keefe? How was he in her memories?

There was another figure in the front of the cave. But it wasn't human. The figure was much bigger, and stood on four legs.

A horse? Wait, no, a unicorn, Sophie corrected herself. Actually, nope. That horse had wings. Which meant it was an alicorn. She had sat through enough episodes of My Little Pony with Amy to know the difference.

Keefe was talking, talking to Sophie, but she couldn't hear him. It was like she was spectating a movie, a movie with no sound that is.

Suddenly, a crack ran down the floor of the cave and a small furry being popped out.

What was this memory? This was not in the United States, but she wasn't even sure if it was somewhere she knew!

Or, for that matter, somewhere she remembered. But if these were her memories—she was assuming they were—why didn't she remember them?

Snapping out of her chaotic mess of thoughts, she realized her past self was now holding what seemed to be a cookie.

Keefe spoke once again, not that she knew what he was saying. Before Sophie knew what was going on, past Sophie bit into the cookie, and the darkness overcame her as her mind once again became a blurry mess.

She awoke from a deep sleep by the hands of Maylee.

Her roomate shook Sophie by her shoulders, a desperate look on her face. When Maylee saw Sophie's gold flecked eyes open, she sighed in relief, plopping down in the cheap IKEA desk chair beside the bed.

"My god, Sophie," she started. "You wouldn't wake up, I was shaking you for at least ten minutes."

Ten minutes?

Sophie shifted to look at the digital clock on the bed side table. 9:37AM, it read. For a moment, Sophie was worried they were missing classes, but then she remembered it was Saturday. She couldn't recall what happened last night, she searched her mind for a reasonable fact as to why she wouldn't wake up. Her mind was a blank slate.

Then she remembered the dream.

If you could call it a dream, anyway. The odd cave, with the alicorn and Keefe, and the cookie. The cookie that somehow managed to finally give her some rest. Just not in the way Sophie wanted it.

"I was tired," was all she managed to say. Maylee rolled her eyes, walking over to the doorway.

"Well, it's good you're up now, since you promised we could put up the Christmas decorations today!" She smiled, knowing Sophie hated it, walking out the door into the kitchen and closing the door behind her.

Sophie sighed, rolling off the bed onto her feet. She dressed in casual holiday attire—considering Maylee would kill her if she wore something otherwise—a simple maroon sweater with the words, Tis' the Season! sewn onto it.

Walking out to the small dorm kitchen, Sophie forced all her thoughts about the odd "dream" away. She had to enjoy today, Sophie had promised Maylee to help her put up Christmas decorations around their dorm, since she wouldn't let her put them up any earlier.

Maylee stood at the counter, sorting through a brown cardboard box labelled "CHRISTMAS" that she had brought with her when she moved in at the beginning of the year. She was untangling a line of bright red tinsel and some multicolored fairy lights when Sophie walked up next to her.

"Ready to start decorating, partner?" Maylee said jokingly, "Like the sweater?" She wore a pine green oversized sweater, embroidered with the phrase, Son of a Nutcracker!. Typical Maylee. Sophie giggled and helped Maylee bring another box over onto the coffee table. This would be a long day.

~CUE MUSIC NOW(the music for this scene starts at 0:16)~

Sophie hung a string of red and green LED lights above the door frame, when she heard the familiar ding! notification signaling from her phone. Stepping down from the stool, Sophie strolled over to the kitchen counter.

She picked up her phone, turning it over in her hand to see who had messaged her. Instead of seeing a familiar name, an unknown number displayed across her screen.

hey, since we've been seeing each other a lot lately,
i was wondering if u wanted to meet up for some kind of
holiday thing?

Sophie stared at the message for another minute before calling Maylee over from the miniature Christmas tree. She showed Maylee the message.

"Ask who it is," Maylee directed her. "Then if it's someone we know, invite them to my family's Christmas party. It's on Sunday at 4:00PM. You know my adress."

On that note, she walked away, going back to decorating the tree with small ornaments and humming to the music. Sophie pondered what to type for multiple minutes, until deciding on the ultimate classic:

who is this?

As she waited for a reply, Sophie poured some milk into a medium sized pot, taking the hot chocolate mix out of the cabinet. One minute later, her phone went off again, with a loud ding!

She picked up her phone, unlocking it with face ID, holding the phone in one hand and stirring the hot chocolate with a ladle in the other.

biana :)

Sophie sighed, glad it wasn't someone like that blonde creep from Junior's. Gethen, Keefe and Dex had called him.

Relief poured off of her, like the hot chocolate over the silver ladle, until it was replaced by another dreading thought.

When had Sophie given Biana her phone number?

She tried to relax herself, thinking that she was just forgetting something. She had been in a rush after meeting them to get over to the movie theater. Maybe she had given it to them then!

Remembering Maylee words, Sophie replied to Biana's text, inviting them over to Maylee's Christmas party.

After, she placed her phone face down on the countertop, turning off the stove and pouring the steaming hot chocolate into two snowy white mugs, and brought them over to the small coffee table, leaving all her worries back with her phone.

After writing this chapter, I have some serious Christmas in June struggles...
