Darkness
"Where's Carlos???!" Velvet called out into the black void, running everywhere, searching for some kind of sign that he had been there. She found nothing. Then, she saw a light flaring in the pitch black, lighting a path that she was ment to follow.
And there someone was.
Her brother.
Covered in blood. She screamed and ran full speed at him. "Carlos??? Carlos! CARLOS WAKE UP!"

Velvet sat bolt upright in her "bed".

"Just a dream." She thought to herself. Just to make sure, she turned to make sure he was there sleeping next to her on their shared mattress. And there he was, sleeping peacefully, his brown curly hair matted and his beautiful green eyes closed shut. Velvet sighed, running her long, slender fingers through her flowery red gold hair.

She got up to get ready for work. As she went through her daily routine, she looked up in the cabinet at the blade laying peacefully and untouched, it's slightly brown edges hinted at what it was in the past used for. She fought back the tears from the horrible memories and the urging coming to haunt her again, but she instead reached for her toothpaste and toothbrush. Before she left, she quickly grabbed her satchel.

She was finished, so she left home. Home. Home as in a run down one story hotel. It wasn't much, but it had a roof and was decently stable. Eh. It wasn't much, but it kept them alive.

Her parents had left her and her brother here when Velvet was only 9. They never came back after that, so Velvet assumed that they died. But her parents didn't leave her with only a little brother to take care of, they had left her with a scarf and a half heart necklace, and Carlos with a silver ring.

Velvet made her way to work. The post office where she worked as a delivery person. She hated it there. And her boss absolutely HATED her guts.

"Velvet!!! That's the FIFTH time this WEEK that you've been LATE! If you don't change this act up NOW you'll be searchin for a new job REAL soon!" Her boss yelled at her, raising his hand up to her, but stopped as he saw many workers staring at him. Velvet was used to his yelling and physical abuse. Not only at her, but at other workers to. Some were brave enough to stand up to him, but others weren't in fear of losing their job, and most quit after the first couple of weeks. He yelled at everyone, but not as much as she.

"Yes sir, I'm so sorry. I'll get better I promise."

"Better hobo." He said under his breath, but not too soft so she couldn't hear it.

She set to work, getting the mail for the city and a clipboard that had all the names and addresses for all the people who had mail that day.

Velvet always worked from up to down in the alphabet, but she always put Jason before everyone and anyone else. Jason was a family friend ever since he caught Velvet stealing from his shop for food when she was 10 years old. He helped them with food, money, and other basic needs.

"Ey, sweetheart!" He greeted her, his accent shining through. He was very tall, and had dark hair with a few grays, and a rich chocolate color in his eyes that just added to his warm nature."Oh, I gotcha somethin'!" He said, pulling something out from under his desk where he greeted new customers and checked out their food, and the place where he was currently sitting. "It's ther' finest roast chicken we've got."

"Oh my goodness! Jason! You have no idea how much this will help us! But you really didn't have to-"

"Nonsense. I wanted ter. Anythin' that'll help yah and your brother." Velvet took the warm chicken from his giant hands and placed it gently in her satchel.

"Oh! I almost forgot!" Velvet said in realization, taking out a package from her mail sack.

"Awh, thanks sweetheart. Now ya be careful out there! It's very dangerous."

"I will! I promise!"

I love him... He's like our father...

If we knew where our first one was...
