Zelda awoke with a start as she sat up on her bed. She rubbed her temple as the throbbing pain grew in her head. She looked down at herself and realized that she wasn't cold like she usually was. She felt warm.

She had two blankets over her making her feel nice and cosy despite the nightmares. Then it hit her. How did she get to bed? She didn't remember getting back let alone having the energy to tuck herself in.

Then she looked over at the bunk next to her. Link was still asleep but he didn't have his own blanket. Zelda gasped as something snapped inside her head.

Did Link carry me to bed, Zelda thought, and tuck me in? She saw him shiver slightly as a gust of cool air came in from the open window. Staring out into the distance, she saw the moon low on the horizon. Zelda took one of her blankets and side out of bed. She carefully placed it over Link before she went back to bed herself.

Work started just after noon that day. Zelda and Link were given the easy job of feeding the animals and letting the horses out for a ride. Link had practically grown up on the ranch so he knew exactly what to do but Zelda was at a complete loss.

Link had to show her what to do and teach her about the different animals. Zelda wasn't really paying attention, she was still distracted by what had happened that morning.

She had chosen not to trust Link and yet he had done nothing to her. He came to find her that night and gave her the bottle of spirits. He tried to comfort her but she pushed him away. He had carried her home and given her his blanket to keep her warm, even if that meant he was cold all night. Every time he tried to help her she would just push him away.

Zelda didn't care about the animals at this point in time, she needed to know why Link was being so nice to her.

"Link..." Zelda started hesitantly.

Link looked up from the water bowl he was filling up and cocked an eyebrow at the Princess. She usually didn't talk to him unless she had to.

"Did you carry me back to the bunk house last night?" She blurted out before she could stop herself.

"Yes, Princess." Link bowed his head respectfully

"Well...um... Thank you, Link," Zelda stammered, "And...um... Please call me Zelda..."

"Ok, Prin- Zelda..." Link looked away in embarrassment and rubbed the back of his neck nervously.

Zelda tried her best to sleep that night. She closed her eyes and waited for her exhaustion to take over. But everytime she shut her eyes, she would think of her room back at the castle. She would think of Ganondorf looming over her, blocking out the light.

Her eyes flew open again and the silent tears came down her cheeks. She pulled the blankets close and so bed into them. She rocked herself back and forth in a futile attempt to get herself to sleep.

"Hey..." She felt a hand in her shoulder and she jerked away from it.

She pulled the covers down and saw Link standing next to her bed. His expression was that of pure concern. When she recoiled from his touch, he backed away defensively as she sat up in her bed.

In an effort to explain himself, Link fumbled under his bunk to find his saddle pack. He searching I side until he brought out the bottle of spirits. It was nearly empty so it was a good thing they had brought another.

He held it out to her before he walked to the end of the room and opened the door that led to the old man's bedroom and the door that led outside. Zelda took the bottle and got out of bed to follow Link.

They passed the old man and soon found themselves walking in silence towards the forest. Zelda let the occasional tear fall down her cheek as they walked through the trees.

Soon, they found themselves in the same clearing as the night before. Zelda slumped down to the trunk of a tree and poped the cork of the bottle before taking a big gulp of the spirits. Link sat down by a nearby tree so as to give her some space.

"So..." Zelda stared as she put her bottle down temporarily to look at Link, "We don't talk a lot..."

"No... We don't..." Link trailed off as he  looked down at the grass.

"Well, if we're gonna be stuck together on this journey," Zelda took another small gulp of the vial liquid before continuing, "I think it would be a good idea to know a bit about each other..."

"Um... Ok..." Link rubbed the back of neck nervously, "What do you want to know...?" He mumbled.

"Well..." She looked down at her toes as she tried to think of what to say, "We could start with... What's with the green tunic and hat?" She chuckled.

"Hey!" Link looked down at his tunic and looked back at Zelda with a I-can't-believe-you-went-there look, "Green is my favourite colour, and it helps camouflage me in the woods..." He crossed his arms and looked away, pouting.

It wasn't long before the bottle of spirits ran out and Zelda fell asleep. Link sighed as he saw her there, so peaceful and so beautiful. He picked her up in his arms and started on their way back to the ranch.
