Canon Clans

All warriors belong/have belonged to a Clan. Characters can be genuinely good characters and not have Clans, but to fall under the category "warrior" they must have the proper warrior training. With that said, not every main OC needs to be a warrior. There are many fantastic rogues, kittypets, and loners.

Now, choosing the Clan for you cat is very important depending on your own preferences (which, main OCs are generally based on the creator's preferences), and the plot for your character.

As an outdoorsy person, I had a hard time choosing Cinderburr's Clan. I mean, I love swimming, so RiverClan, right? But then again, I'm not a fan of fish, so I scratched that one off the list. I also love running in open spaces, so WindClan, right? But I also love the smell of pine, so ShadowClan, right? I pondered over this for a very long time, before finally deciding that she'd hail from ShadowClan, for a couple reasons: like the skills I wanted her to possess fit in more with ShadowClan, and while she's small, she's not as sleek as I imagine a WindClan cat should be (although every cat is different).

So, if your OC is based off you, which Clan is your favorite? What part of the wilderness do you love most? What traits - both physical and psychological - does your cat have? Thick, glossy fur - RiverClan; thin, wiry bodies - WindClan; large, quiet paws - ShadowClan; muscular, broad shoulders - ThunderClan; powerful hind legs - SkyClan. Get it?

And there are other factors, of course. It's different for everyone. And OC's don't always have to be based off the author.

Original Clans

Now it gets a bit trickier when it comes to creating Clans. You might become overwhelmed with questions like "What should I name it?" "What should the territory be like?" And the hardest for me: "What should their unique characteristic be?"

Listen, if you continue to read Warriors fics, and create your own, and so on, you're eventually going to realize that names get reused, Clan names get reused, ideas get reused, and so on. There are a lot of people in the Wattpad Warriors world, and so not every idea is going to be 100% original.

What I'm saying is, don't stress too much about making your cat or Clan the most unique. As long as you don't purposefully steal ideas, and write content that comes from your heart, (and use good grammar) your books will be good.

Naming the Clan

And when it comes to choosing a name, just try not to be cringy, but honestly, do whatever you want! Here are some of the cringier names: MoonClan, DarkClan, BoneClan, BloodyClan, etc.

That's not to say these names can't be used. For instance, BoneClan could be used in a fic where Bone survives the battle with the Clans, and rebuilds BloodClan after the four Clans leave their territory, and he renames it BoneClan.

And MoonClan could be used in a fic where they don't call it StarClan, they call it MoonClan. Get it? But for the most part, I'd shy away from these kinds of names.

Think about why your Clan has its name, and that'll make it easier. Do they have the name because of their territory? Well, then TreeClan could be a good name for a forest-dwelling Clan. Or are they named after their first leader? Because then anything could be the Clan name, even MoonClan.

The Clan's Territory

Now let's say you have four Clans, and you're trying to give them realistic territories. You're not going to have SnowClan that lives in the snowy mountains and LeafClan that lives in a hot desert right next each other. So just make sure that geographically, it makes sense. Sketching out a makeshift map of the territories would be a good idea, but not necessary.

Conclusion

So in the end, it's really all up to the author. Try to be semi-realistic, but having fun is all that matters!
