I'm not feeling too well so I thought I'd write something up before I went to sleep.

I'm sure you've heard the expression "Don't judge a book by its cover!" And while it's an important expression, all of us do the exact opposite. There are three things that draw you to books. Covers, descriptions, and titles. The last two are things I'll get into later.

If you don't have a nice looking cover that tells me you don't put effort into your book. If you don't put effort why would I want to read it?

I know that making covers can be difficult. So I have a few tips to make it a lot easier for you so your book draws more people to it.

1) Look up wallpapers relating to your stories- I always find that downloading a wallpapers app and looking through for things relating to my stories are a lot easier than searching the web for a specific picture. For Elemental I looked up Robin wallpapers, for A Supernatural case I looked up Sherlock and Supernatural wallpapers, it's really east

2) Don't be afraid to layer pictures- the majority of my covers are two pictures layered on top of each other. I really like this effect because it seems more professional to me and I can fit more onto the cover without making it seem like I'm crowing. You can really easily find apps that allow you to layer pictures on any app store

3) Avoid bright colors- I don't mean avoid bright pictures, I mean putting the title of your story in bright yellow. It makes it look unprofessional and  people will be more hesitant to read it

4) Don't use a picture collage as a cover- If the picture is of a board of pictures because it relates to the story that's fine, but I mean having a picture of a dog, cat, and horse collaged together as the cover. It will confuse the reader

5) Sometimes the more simple the better- You don't need to layer photos for every single cover for every story you have. Sometimes having a simple cover draws more attention that having a complicated one

6) Don't be afraid to find someone who makes covers- There are people who make covers for people on Wattpad. I asked the lovely  to make the cover for my original story and I'm in love with it

I know it may seem like there's a thin line between good and bad covers but it's a really simple and easy process. There's one question you have to ask yourself that will help you tremendously as well. "If I saw a book with this cover on a shelf, would I read/buy it?" If your answer is yes, congratulations! If your answer is no, keep on trying.

Requests are open, so is asking questions!
