Carter's POV.

Mind if I sit here?" Mary grinned and plopped her books next to me. We were in the cafeteria, which was unusually nice for a high school. An 'S' shaped table and a giant soda fridge on stood against the wall. Platters of pizza and pasta were in the middle. A square table with desserts and a mini fridge stood next to it. There also was a build-your-own sandwich bar on the left wall, and a soup and salad station on the right.

As for seating, small, circular wooden tables covered half of the room. The rest were square tables that seated 4 or 5. Several brick steps led up to the seniors area, which had 5 long, rectangular tables, and pictures from previous years dotting the walls.

"Sure!" I grinned and parted my books to make a space for her. We were also allowed to study in the cafeteria.
"So, this is George." She said. My mouth dropped slack and my cookie fell out of my mouth.
"You have a boyfriend!?" I yelled.
"Shhhh!" Mary grinned. "We're... We're just really good friends."
I raised my eyebrows.
"Okay, we're dating." She shrugged, smiling.
"I knew it."
Her arm around a tall, brown haired boy, who she introduced as George. George was tall, about 6' 7'', and was slightly tan. He wore a 'Tiger Pride' blue spirt shirt. I remembered the mascot for the school was a tiger.
"You're on the team, right?" I asked.
"Which te-? Oh, you're the girl. Carter right?" He stuck his hand out and grinned.
"Yep. Position?" I asked. Mary sighed.
"He's too tough for his own good. Lineman." She answered.
"Offensive?" I asked again. I wanted to be on good terms with him if he could block me from getting a concussion.
"Yup." He said. "Wide receiver, right?" He smiled just before the bell rang for last period.
"Yeah!" I yelled as I grabbed my books and started to sprint to class.
"Relax Carter! That's the 5 minute warning." Mary yelled over her shoulder. Oh.

I couldn't focus in class. I was too nervous about the game, our first game. I glanced out side at the two inches of snow on the ground. That's going to make it harder to catch. I thought.

Mr. Hudson, our art teacher, was awesome. Today was supposed to be a sculpting demonstration day, but he let us have free draw instead. I grinned and slipped on my head phones.

Leaning back in my seat I started sketching something, I don't know why, I usually just doodled. I kept going until the bell rang. Glancing down I realized I had drawn a whole scene. An entire football team was celebrating after a win. The team was launching themselves with in the air, holding the trophy above their heads. I grinned and stuffed it in my back pack. I sprinted to the locker room and hauled out my pads. The league required I wear QB pads, the thickest ones, or else I couldn't play. I took a deep breath and walked out onto the field.

Dolan's POV.

I cursed under my breath when Carter came out on the field. I had been hoping she wouldn't show. Nevertheless, here she was, stretching out by the bleachers. I rolled my eyes and slipped my helmet over my head.
"Dolan! Dude, snap out of it!" Damson snapped his fingers in front of my face.
"If I didn't know any better I would think you had the hots for her. The way you keep staring at her." Dolan muttered.
"Okay, okay, let's just focus on the game." I shook my head to clear my thoughts and replayed how kickoff would go.

We were playing an easy team to beat, and we always won. But we we're going to play hard. Several college scouts were here and this might be the last time for months they were coming to a home game.
"Huddle up!" I clasped my hands together and ran over to the rickety bleachers, waiting for the rest of the team to join.

Carter reached me first and I leaned down to her. "Look, if you screw this up for us-" I muttered through gritted teeth.
"Don't worry. Why would I, the girl you insulted, treated like crap, and ignored, mess anything up for you?" She laughed at me and shook her head in disbelief.
"Look, just give me a couple good throws and maybe I'll make you look good." Carter said, though she still sounded mysterious. I cursed under my breath and turned my attention to the rest of my team.
"Okay, guys, as you know, college scouts are here. So, give it your all." I spoke, trying to build up the teams spirits.

We broke apart and the teams captains took to the field for the coin flip. Donn, our kicker, I, and Damson choose heads. It landed on tails. They picked to kick first, which was fine by us. If we were playing a good team, I would be worried.

After our kick returner, Arthur, brought it up to the 40 yard line, coach put in the starters. We lined up, our snapper gripping the ball.
"White 7, White 7!" I called the play. I heard murmurs from the other team as on of their line men noticed Carter was a girl. She was wearing a pink under shirt. I ignored the mutters and concentrated on the task at hand. "Hike!"
