"Avaline Quinn got compared to Ava." "Did you hear? Avaline Quinn got compared to Ava!" "What a loser." "She's seriously so ugly."

Whispers follow me as I weave my way through the crowd and head for Skyler's locker. I can't believe everyone knows already. On one hand, it's embarrassing, but even worse, what if someone figures it out? I should've chosen a better name.

I finally push past the last cluster of gossipers and bump into Skyler.

"Let's get to homeroom," she says, looking out at the sea of whispering girls.

"I'm up for that."

We start to make our way to room 242, but people keep shoving things in our faces. We're almost there when someone sticks out a Jimmy Choo-clad foot and I trip over it. I look up and see Jaden smirking down at me. Figures.

"What do you want?" Skyler asks as I hurry to gather my supplies. Jaden answers by shoving the latest copy of Secrets Uncovered in my face.

"You can't deny that you're ugly anymore," Jaden tells me. Her friends cackle behind her.

"But don't worry, Jaden is so going to be put next to Ava when they start doing most beautiful counterparts," one of her lackeys adds.

"Too bad," Jaden says with a snicker, then tosses the magazine at me as she walks away.

"I would like to see her on the bad attitude list," Skyler grumbles as I go flying towards the ground again. The magazine blinds me as I attempt to walk forward and I end up sprawled across the floor like an egg that's fallen off it's spoon during a relay race.

"Ouch," I groan as someone steps on my finger. Skyler pulls me up and hands me my books and pens.

"Careful. You're going to break a limb someday."

"I know, I know," I sigh. "I hate that girl."

"No surprise there."

We head off to first period glumly. I take a seat in the back and Skyler sits down next to me. I hand in my homework, but after that I can't concentrate on a single thing that Mrs. Davis is saying.

Avaline, Ava, Avaline, Ava, is all I can think as Mrs. Davis discusses adverbs. Avaline, Ava, Avaline, Ava, Avaline, Ava.

"You know, with a small makeover you could go undercover as Ava," Poppy Morkin, the girl on my other side, tells me. "You two do look alike and you have such similar names."

AVALINE, AVA, AVALINE, AVA, AVALINE! AVA!!!

"No we don't," I say quickly. "She's much too pretty."

Poppy gives me a strange look but goes back to her paper nonetheless.

"If you say so."

I sigh and am about to go back to my paper when my phone buzzes. I try to ignore it but it keeps buzzing, so after glancing at Mrs. Davis to make sure that I won't get another detention, I pull out my phone and check my notifications. Six from Updater:

My hair immediately enters my mouth, a nervous habit that I almost never do in public. But honestly, what good could come out of Jaden tagging both mes? My hand flies up in the air before I can stop myself.

"Yes, Avaline?" Mrs. Davis asks. "Do you have an answer?"

"Actually, I have a stomachache," I lie.

Mrs. Davis sighs and scribbles out a hall pass that she hands it to me. "Go ahead."

I've just opened the bathroom door when Skyler tears past an angry hall monitor and shoves me into the bathroom, tumbling in after.

"Thank goodness I got out of there," she says, panting as she turns the lock on the door. "You won't believe what Jaden just posted!"

My mouth goes dry.

"You got a notification too?"

Instead of answering, Skyler motions for me to jump up onto the counter next to her and shows me her screen. On it, there's a photo from the Secrets Uncovered page and under it, the text:

No wonder @AvalineQuinn26 is so ugly - the fact that her secret twin @AvaSupermodel is much more beautiful is ruining her mood, and you know how mood can affect your complexion. JK! Must just be stress about the fact that her best friend @SkyGirl will ditch her as soon as she gets new glasses. Xoxo, Jaden

I start hyperventilating. This cannot be happening. This cannot be happening. This cannot be happening.

"What did you say to her?" I ask Skyler. "Did you report her? Block her? WHAT DID YOU DO?" I cry, raising my voice why Skyler looks down at her feet. She scrolls down and shows me exactly what she did.

SkyGirl: @JadenQueen01, @AvalineQuinn26 happens to be my best friend so back off.

JadenQueen01: @SkyGirl, never said she wasn't a good friend! She just happens to be a very ugly friend. And you can't deny that she is the perfect hideous counterpart to @AvaSupermodel.

SkyGirl: @JadenQueen01, like you would know that. It's not like you've ever met @AvaSupermodel. But she is my best friend and you do not get off with insulting my best friend so easily!

JadenQueen01 is typing.

"Skyler!" I cry. "My mom is going to kill you!"

"I'm sorry," Skyler whimpers. "I couldn't help it! It just came out!"

"I'm sending this over to Hannah right away," I tell Skyler.

"No, please don't!" She pleads. "You can't just rat me out like this!"

"I have to," I say and hit "Share". Skyler stares at me in disbelief.

"I can't believe you would just do that to me!" she shouts, and stomps out of the room. And just like that, Jaden's prediction comes true. Skyler has ditched me.
