So, typical me, thinking about life in the shower. I remember this story during that shower that I'd thought I'd share.

So, it's third grade and we are making little booklets for stories we've read in the textbook.

Now, I was no artist. I know it was third grade, but I don't think the teacher realized that for me.

She was always a little for strict with me.

Anyway, so we are all working on our covers and when we finish we are supposed to go up to the desk and show her so we have permission to go to the next step.

So I'm thinking wow, this is so great. She's going to love this.

I get in line, and I hear her complimenting everybody.

"Great!"

"Beautiful!"

"Good job!!"

"Nice effort!"

When it gets to my turn, she looks at at and says, "You call this acceptable?!"

Now I'm thinking has she lost her mind? Just because my initials are ART doesn't make me an artist unlike (persons name) over there!

I stare at her with disbelief. Did she seriously just say a third graders drawing was unacceptable?!

Might I say it was some pretty good drawings, too.

I go back to my desk and redraw a couple of things and go back in line.

She's complimenting everyone again until it's my turn.

"Annie, seriously, you can do better than that!" She says.

What girl??! I put my EFFORT into that beautiful piece that an 8 year old has created.

I go back and fix it.

Not acceptable.

This goes on for the REST OF THE DAY.

Everybody else has already finished 2 steps and I'm still on step one because I CANT DRAW.

At the end of the day she collects them so we don't loose them in our backpacks.

The next day's wait in line to get mine.

She was discussing something with two people ahead of me.

That person was absent. The teacher was explains the assignment and showing our drawings as examples.

She holds up miss perfect girls. She holds up a guys. She starts going through them showing the student all of them.

And when she got to mine, you know what she said?!

"Don't look at this one. This is an example of what NOT to do."

I don't know if she sees my face in line but it looks something like this: 😢

You can't judge an eight year olds drawing like that!

Luckily when I got mine she said, "I'm tired of checking it. Just start working on step two."

And I went back to my seat ashamed of how bad my drawing skills were.

That's how I always became self conscious of all of my drawings. I just realized this now.

This is why I never like to show people my drawings.

THE END.
