You quickly sat up, your heart beating like crazy. You had a dream where "they" took your little brother. You turned to your side and sighed in relief. Your brother, Frisk, was sleeping peacefully beside you, his back turned to you. Well, he isn't really your brother, but he means the universe to you. You smiled as you comb his chocolate brown hair. You wanted to sleep a little bit more, but with the monsters around? You can't sleep no more. A few years back, once the monsters step foot on the surface again, they took over everything. They want to wipe the humans off the earth...completely. They killed thousands--millions maybe! They even threw bombs everywhere. And eventually, while running away, you turned to an alleyway. Where you saw Frisk rummaging in a trashbin. You protected him with your life ever since. You and Frisk were alone in a ruined city. Where it's hard to find the resources cause probably most of it exploded. But both of you stayed determined. You took your satchel and took out a biscuit. You woke Frisk up. He grunted in response.

"Frisk. Frisk, wake up." You say, rubbing his back.

"Mm... I don't want to." He muttered under his breath.

"Please...? It's a new day."

His eyes were half opened now. You glanced over his shoulder. His expression was depressed. You sighed. You wanted to cheer him up.

"Frisk. What's my name?" You asked.

He turned and sat to face you. "Y/N."

"And why is that my name?" You asked.

He wore a confused look. "Um... because that's what your parents named you...?"

You smiled. "And why did they name me 'Y/N'?"

Frisk shrugged.

"Excactly!" You cheered with a wink, snapping your fingers. He knew this was your signature action when you discover or explain something (since you were the valedictorian of your class back then and loved science and quantum physics), but he was more confused. "We don't know why our names are our names." You explained.

"Huh?" He said, his head tilted. But you explain the most ridiculous and random stuff now.

"We tend to ask why did our parents named us our names. Sometimes, they say 'cause why not?' Or 'it sounds right'. Usually, it has a deeper meaning to it."

He blinked. "So...uh...what are you trying to say, Y/N?"

You pulled him close to you, hugging him. "I'm trying to say that every different name has a unique and special personality and talent on us. And you, Frisk, is one very special determined soul." You kissed his forehead.

He wore a hopeful look on his face. "Even monsters, right?"

Your feelings faded. You never actually thought about monsters being unique nor special. You always thought that all of them are the same; ruthless, brutal, foolish creatures that were actually a mistake. But you didn't want to lose his hope, so you kept smiling.

"Yes. Even monsters." You say. He smiled widely. You gave him the biscuit. He opened and started eating it happily. You stared down at the ruined city, creating an instant map in your head. You scanned the whole city, hoping for something that can help you. The ash-filled air got thicker everyday, you thought you can't let Frisk out if the air was too dangerous to breathe. Well, it already is but we have to make risks, right? A well-looked building that was supposedly a mall. It wasn't pretty, but it would do.

"Y/N!" You heard Frisk call your name. You turned with a smile. He was wearing your jacket, bandana, and mask. Oh, how you cherished this child. You chuckled as you picked him up in your arms. You tickled him in his vulnerable spot, making him laugh and giggle. "No! Y/N! No! Please! HAHAHAHAHAA!" You finally stopped, satisfied. You took your clothes from him and wore all of it. He took his own and wore his jacket and baby blue mask. You wore your black mask and fingerless gloves. You kneeled down, gesturing Frisk to climb on top of your back, he did so carefully. A magic belt appeared from your waist, wrapping itself around you and Frisk. It was something given to you from your grandmother, who married a monster. The monsters were different back then, before the war even started. Frisk clasped his hands together tightly around your neck. You learned a little bit of magic from your parents, so you were just fine with Frisk on your own.

You stepped back, then jumped on to a next building, both your eyes glowing neon purple. You safely landed, Frisk still holding onto you. You looked around to see if there are any troops, but it was just you two. Both you and Frisk lifted your hoods as the wind started blowing harder. You found a flight of stairs going down and ran to it all the way down to the next floor. You ran and jumped, landing on a broken car. Fortunately, the landing wasn't as rough.

"Are you still hanging in there?" You asked Frisk, making a joke in your sentence. He giggled and nodded.

You quickly hid at the side of the car, scanning the sky if there are any air forces. When you thought it was clear, you sprinted towards the mall until you successfully got inside, your eyes turning back to its original E/V color. The belt unwrapped itself from you two as you carefully put Frisk down. The both of you put your masks down, knowing the air was safer inside. He held your hand as you held his. You both walked towards the grocery part of the mall. Once you stepped foot, Frisk tugged on your arm, gesturing you to let go. You were hesitant, but you did so anyways. He ran to the candy isle with fits of laughter, breaking the frightening silence. You smiled at the sight. All You wanted to do is watch him, but there was no time to enjoy something right now. You walked towards the food isle. You checked all the food that is lightweight and not yet expired.

Later, you sighed at the amount of food you were only able to stash. You were about to call it a day, until you heard marching. "Sh¡t." You cursed under your breath as you ducked down. You peeked at the Sadie of the isle, where you found Frisk cowering behind the big wall of candies.

"Search the whole area! Don't leave a single spot!" A raspy voice said. You saw a monster getting close to where Frisk is. You took a coke can (I'm sponsoring it)and threw it away in the opposite side. "There!" He said, making the others follow him. You quickly and quietly ran to him, holding him tight. The belt wrapped itself around you two again, but this time, it was tighter than before. Both your eyes were glowing neon purple again. Frisk just stared at you with wide eyes. This told you that he doesn't want you to get hurt. You sighed. You knew you have to kill all of them if one of them saw you. "I see something! Over there!" Well, karma's a b¡tch. You were about to stand, until you heard gunshots and screaming. You quickly covered Frisk's ears. You tried to see what was going on, but you can't risk being shot right in the face. Blood splattered right beside you, Frisk quickly turned away. One of the monsters slid in the blood. He stared at you, his eyes full of fear and confusion. His face was beat up bad. But even that, he pressed some kind of mic thing in his ear. You knew what he was gonna do, so you stood and kicked him right in the face. He was unconscious, and you searched him. You took the gun from his belt and a pack of bullets. Frisk climbed on your back as he dug his wet face in your covered neck. It broke your heart that he cried. Suddenly, silence fell. There was no shooting, no screaming, just dead silence. You stopped breathing. You can't move, knowing you might get heard. You took your dagger from your jacket's pocket, ready to stab someone in the face—

Okay, so you have a problem with hurting people in the face.

Nice.

You hear heavy footsteps getting closer to you. When it finally stopped, you swiftly turned as you were about to stab them in the face. But he was able to grab your arm before it touched his skull. Your heart sank a bit. You weren't expecting a monster, to be honest.

He was a skeleton who was taller than you. He had two scars that came from both his eye sockets, one going up, one going down. His left eye was blazing yellow, which intimidated you. He was also covered in blood and sweat, which made him look more intimidating. He was wearing a leather jacket with fur surrounding its hood, the sleeves were rolled up to his elbows. He was wearing a grey turtleneck, with of course, the sleeves also rolled up. He was also wearing black pants with white suspenders that only hung from his waist, black combat boots, and a sh¡t-eating grin.

And he reeked of smoke.

You flinched at his grip a little, but you didn't show any emotion. You stared at him with your neon purple, glowing eyes.

His smile grew as his left eye flickered. "Sup, sweetheart?"

The name he gave you made you feel uneasy. It reminded you so much about someone you couldn't quite know who. But his attitude made you relax a little since he wasn't as hostile like earlier, but you can let your guard down and give him your trust just yet. He's still a monster.

His eye calmed down into a white pin prick, another showed on his right eye. His grip loosened a little as he chuckled. "Like what you see?"

You made a face by accident. "The fvck?" You say, a bit flushed. He just laughed at your reaction as he let go of your wrist.

"The names G, sweetie. What's yours?" He asked as he calmed down. You were about to give him a piece of your own mind, when Frisk suddenly raised both his hands with a giggle.

"I'm Frisk! This is Y/N! Thank you for saving us, funny skeleton!" He cheered. You mentally face palmed, but at least G made him smile somehow.

Wait, how did he find that funny?

G chuckled. "Sure, kid. I saved ya' and your sister." You knew he wasn't intentionally saving you two, so you had to investigate what's this creep's problem.

An annoying skeleton who gives off a dangerous but humerus vibe was a light that has shown you a way in the dark, like how his left eye flamed under his looming shadow.
