My eyes narrowed. "What do you mean, it's our room," I yelled.

He rolled his eyes. "It wasn't my idea, Lucas kicked me out of my room and replaced me with May. If you've got a problem with it, take it out with him," he shrugged before going back to his phone.

I took a step for the door, so I could go find Lucas and yell at him, but then I paused.

What kind of idiot would I be if I passed at sharing a room with my crush?

Even if that said crush hated my guts at the moment, I'd still be able to sneak a peek at him when he's getting changed.

Yeah, yeah, I'm a pervert, sue me...

I walked over to my bed and sat down on the foot of it. "But what if the teachers find out...," I asked cautiously.

He snorted and looked up in a bored manner. "Relax, Miss goody two shoes, the teachers aren't allowed to come in the cabin unless they knock, which gives us plenty of time to swap back," he explained as he rolled his eyes.

"I suppose that's true...," I sighed. I looked over at him and observed him curiously.

Funny, he didn't seem all that bothered at sharing a room with me...

After everyone had settled into their cabins and had dinner the teachers let us have free time to explore the camp. Everyone in our cabin after only five minutes of exploring decided to relax, and sit on the patch of grass in front of the lake.

Nobody was saying anything, and everyone was just enjoying the beautiful view of sparkling stars on the jet-black night sky.

Then, Lucas decided to ruin it

"I was expecting you to come yell at me for switching rooms, Mia," Lucas chuckled as he sent me a knowing look.

"I can always start now, if you'd like me to," I snapped in warning.

"I just thought I'd let you know that Ethan didn't hesitate for a second when I asked him to switch. Take that how you will," Lucas smirked as he looked between two of us suggestively.

Ethan snapped his head towards Lucas in irritation. "Do you ever shut the fuck up," Ethan bit back angrily.

"Sorry...I can't help it I'm bored, I felt like provoking someone," Lucas whined, as he pouted at Ethan.

Ethan tried to maintain his hard glare on Lucas, but as soon as he saw Lucas' pouting face, he soon cracked a smile before starting to break into laughter.

I smiled as I saw May reach for Lucas' hand and start to play with it. "I still can't believe that you guys are dating, didn't May kick you at your own party," I laughed, as I looked between the two of them in disbelief.

"What can I say, May has an interesting flirting technique...," Lucas sighed as he shot May a pitiful look.

She scowled and pinched him hard on the shoulder.

"Ouch, see what I mean," he whined as he rubbed at his arm. I threw my head back and laughed, and brushed my tears of laughter away from my eyes.

My eyes drifted over to Ethan, and I was surprised to find that he was already staring at me. His blue eyes had softened, and he was staring at me with a warm smile.

As soon as he noticed I was looking, the smile fell from his face almost immediately, and he quickly looked away, making it seem as though he was never looking at all.

With a sigh, I turned back to face the lake. My fingers drifted over to my wrist, so I could mindlessly fiddle with my bracelet, but then I paused as my fingers were met with nothing.

"Shit," I said in a panic as I looked down at my wrist.

"What's wrong, Mia?" Chloe said as she looked over at me in concern.

"I've lost my bracelet," I cried.

Quickly, I threw myself onto my hands and knees and started to frantically pat around the grass, in the hopes that it would just miraculously appear.

It was a lovely and expensive gift my parents had given me for my 17th birthday, and we weren't exactly rich, so they had saved up for ages to get it for me.

I darted my eyes around like a crazy person, to see if anything stood out. I almost let out a sob of relief, when my eyes latched on to a shiny object hiding amongst the brambles of the riverbank. Quickly, I scrambled to my feet and ran over to it.

"Mia, where the hell are you going?" Chloe called out in confusion.

"I think I found it," I shouted back as I used my hands to hoist myself up onto one of the large rocks along the steep riverbank. It must have flown off when I was skimming rocks in the lake a couple of minutes ago. It was a miracle it didn't land in the lake.

"Just come back, Mia. You're not supposed to walk on that bit," Chloe called out in concern.

I just rolled my eyes at her dramatics and spread my arms out to balance myself as I slowly stepped onto the next rock along.

Suddenly, the rock moved under my foot, and I gasped and overarched my back to try and maintain my balance. I smiled in relief once I had steadied myself.

"Mia, get the fuck down from there, now!" I heard Ethan's voice yell.

He said this as I was mid-way through stepping onto the next rock, and I turned back around to look at him. Then just like that, the rock rolled right from underneath my feet. I screamed in shock as I lost my balance and fell off my feet and to my side.

"Mia!" I heard a deep voice scream.

I tumbled helplessly down the steep bank, and my skin was roughly scraped along the sharp edges of the rock. Finally, I hit the surface of the water with a large splash. I felt every nerve in my body scream as the icy water submerged me. I started to helplessly flail my arms around to try and make my way to the surface.

I don't know if it was because of my clothes, or the shock of the cold water, but I was just sinking faster than I could seem to swim. The panic had me gasping for air, and I started choking on the water as I thrashed around wildly to try and save myself. As I struggled for more and more breath, my vision became darker and blurrier until I felt nothing at all.

  *             *              *            *          *           *          *           *         *

"Wake up, Mia. Wake up! Please, please wake up," I heard a deep voice choke out in desperation.

My mind felt foggy, and all I could see was darkness. I felt something press firmly down on my chest, over and over, in a rhythmical fashion. The faint, distant sound of voices around me grew louder, and the sound of people shouting and crying intensified.

Suddenly, I felt myself gasp for air.

Instinctively, I rolled myself to my side and started to furiously cough up the water that had been trapped in my lungs. I breathed long and shaky breaths, as the air flowed into my lungs, providing me with the precious oxygen that I had been longing for.

"Oh my god, Mia," I heard Chloe cry from somewhere up above me.

My head felt like it was spinning, and I slowly fluttered my eyes open and took in the site around me with blurry vision. I could faintly make out fuzzy figures both kneeling and standing around me.

As my vision cleared, the first person I focused on was Ethan.

He was staring at me as though he could scarcely believe I was real, his eyes wide and bloodshot.

"Thank God, oh thank god," he sobbed, as he sunk his head on my chest in relief.

He was soaked to the skin, and his cold hand clung desperately on to my own. On my other side, I saw Chloe and May smiling down at me in relief, their faces red and tear-stained from crying.

"What the hell happened?" I croaked out, my voice sounding a lot raspier than normal.

Ethan slowly lifted his head to look at me, and the amount of fear than shone in his eyes was alarming. "Mia, you almost fucking drowned," Ethan whispered.

As soon as he said that the memory of what happened came back to me... "How did I get out? I kept trying to get up, but I...I.. couldn't," I stuttered out, as I looked around at everyone in confusion.

"Ethan pulled you out, Mia. It took him a while to find you, but he did. We thought...," she swallowed and bowed her head. "We thought it might have been too late...," Chloe trailed off in a pained, and trembling voice.

I immediately turned back to face Ethan and took in his dripping hair and drenched clothes in shock. I opened my mouth to say something, but no words came out, not knowing what the hell you say to someone who's the reason you're still breathing.

"So, does that mean you forgive me?" I breathed out weakly.

The corners of his mouth lifted into a smile, and he reached out to brush a strand of hair behind my ear.

"Of course, I do, you absolute idiot," Ethan smiled.

"Ethan, honey, she just drowned. I think your flirting can wait," Lucas snorted. Ethan surprisingly didn't seem too annoyed at his teasing, and just rolled his eyes.

With a groan, I attempted to sit up but winced slightly as I felt a stinging pain shoot across my side. Ethan immediately reached out to steady me.

"Are you okay?" he said, looking down at me in concern.

"Yeah, I'm fine," I said dismissively.

He had already done way more than I could ever pay him back for, so the last thing I needed was to be babied by him too. I tried my best not to make any pained sounds, as I rose to my feet.

Ethan frowned. "No, you're not fine, that fall was nasty. Let me help you," Ethan said in a firm tone as he wrapped an arm around my waist.

"I'm fine Ethan," I said as I pushed him away.

I took about one step away from him before my head started to spin, and my legs buckled underneath me. Ethan quickly reached out to catch me before I managed to make it to the floor.

"This is ridiculous, Mia, you almost fucking drowned! Let me help you," he begged.

When he took in the sight of my reluctant face, he let out a harsh chuckle. "You know what, I don't give a shit if you want my help or not. You're getting it," he snapped.

Before I could get another word out in, he wrapped his arms around my waist and swept me up off my feet and into his arms. Then he turned on his heel and started to walk in the direction of the cabin.

"Ethan I can walk this is ridiculous. I didn't break my legs," I muttered in annoyance.

He just ignored me and pulled me closer to his chest, muttering something about how irritatingly stubborn I was.

Author's note:

Chapter 45 is all done. And yes, I did make Mia almost drown in a lake because I was bored... and I'm not sorry lol.  I wasn't even planning on doing something like this, but then the thought crossed my mind last minute, so I thought yolo, why not. XD

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this dramatic chapter xx
