So a lot of you must have heard about the Wattpad breach of data that occured recently. For those of you who don't know, it was recently discovered that some of our data was being sold to a third party Organization. Majority of the data that was stolen were userids, date of birth, gender, passwords. There seems to be no evidence of our stories or reading lists or paid stories or private messages being stolen.
This led to Wattpad ensuring effective security measures where for a lot of users, Wattpad insisted that users reset their passwords for safety. Especially for laptop users or users who log in/out of the website, logging in seemed to be a problem.
Now as Wattpad has clarified, our passwords were stored crptyographically that means that some sort of code was used to protect them. Nevertheless let's all be cautious in our approach just in case our data was breached.
Now frankly speaking, most of us have not shared any sensitive information on the app. So you may think ki zyada se zyada they may get access to my reading list or my writings😁
So most of us may think that this issue may not concern us. But I thought of certain ways this could impact us and therefore thought of listing those
1) If you have disclosed your full name somewhere then or have given your date of birth then that information may be used. Now you may wonder how it can be used, so I m giving you an example. Usually when you have to set passwords, most ppl use their name and some number.  This number may be your dob and suppose you use a combination of those then you may be at a risk.
Therefore be sure that none of your sensitive info is protected using such passwords. also if possible then do not disclose such stuff on the app. Or change it a little 😎
2) For those of you who had connected Watty with Google or Facebook accounts, if your passwords are the same then hackers may have access to your email. Therefore ensure that you don't use the same password everywhere.
As I spoke to you about the reset password option, I can tell you
Silent-writerr is still facing an issue with her account as the reset password was sent to her old email which is unable to access and hence has got locked out of her account.
@sautans Sun Fizo try emailing them and they might revert back.

Also before you reset your password, you can go to your settings and either change your recovery email so that you don't get locked out.
We don't want to be deprived of our authors and their writings. Therefore please if you decide to reset your password, first be doubly sure you old password and recovery mail are working.
I m not an expert on the issue. But I wanted to share my thoughts and this screenshot of the tweets related to the issue and this was the only way hence I created the story.
