"My time to shine!" Warp boarded the elevator then turned in the direction of the android. "Everything planted where it should be?"

"Planted right for your fake death," Zurg said.

"No fireworks beneath the ground?"

"Course, not." Zurg folded his arms. "Killing Lightyear by fireworks is stupid."

"Cause he isn't exactly a firework."

"Precisely! He's a rocket! Rockets get destroyed with fine craftmanship in intricate plans!" Zurg had a menacing laugh as Warp rolled his eyes shaking his head. "Make your farewells to your dear friend."

Zurg proceeded to float into a waiting craft then the elevator flew down with Warp in tow crashing on to a series of drones that were firing at Buzz.

"Back up?" Warp asked.

"Always a dramatic entrance, Warp," Buzz commented then added. "Let's go after Zurg!"

"Not today, Lightyear!" Zurg's voice came over then they shifted in the direction of the emperor. "For I have started the self destruct sequence on my way out!" the emperor leaned forward in front of the screen. "It is a moon of DOOM, now!"

The emperor let out a evil laugh.

"The moon will self destruct in sixty seconds." the computer announced.

"Sixty seconds?" Buzz repeated.

"All the time in the world!" Warp countered.

The drones proceeded to fire all around at them.

"Uh oh!"

And the space rangers fired back at the drones ending up destroying a couple on their first go.

"Get to the ship, get ready to blast off!"

Buzz leaped off the guard rail.

"But Buzz!"

"That's an order! We'll meet you at orbit!"

"Self destruct in forty-five seconds!"

"Farewell, Lightyear! For this time, you shall not escape!"

The computer screen was destroyed in a fury of rubble and drone misfiring at the wrong direction as more drones came out of their hiding places. Warp continued firing, intentionally, in the direction that Zurg had indicated would perform the massive destruction of drones and the building appearing to be destroyed at the seams.

"Just watch me, Zurg!"

They fired as one, together, side by side. In retrospect, it wasn't going to end, fighting, together, far Warp was concerned. It was merely a longer buffer between acts of duty for one another, as friends, as brothers, as companions, as space rangers, as a spy holding on his goody two shoes persona. Warp parted from Buzz as the destruction rampaged through the lair and fired at the drones getting a little carried away.

Everything was going as planned, exactly. The destruction seemed a little too real as initiated by the fireworks, but for Buzz, it made the simulation all too very real. Space Ranger Warp would die today and Warp Darkmatter would carry on fulfilling his role for Zurg, working from the inside, doing misdeeds, all the good deeds had been a pain in the rear to accomplish and made him wonder why he had enlisted as a spy in the academy. Then he remembered, money, money, money, fame, and power.

A loud cry drew his attention as a pillar of fire fell behind him. It sounded like Buzz. His alarms ran on in high alert as he fled toward the source of the noise then halted in his tracks. There laid Buzz Lightyear, underneath a beam, as the ground beneath Warp was trembling with each fire by the fireworks and then he saw, destruction erupting from the walls, the floor, oh no, Zurg had packed fireworks beneath and inside the walls for a over the top display.

"Buzz!"

Warp fled on toward Buzz then attempted to raise the beam up.

"Warp, get out of here!"

"No!" Warp replied. "I am not leaving without you!"

"You must!" Buzz shot back. "Star Command cannot lose two space rangers!"

"They're fireworks! It isn't self destructing, Buzz!" he looked down in horror, at Buzz, the weight of the beam had crushed his legs, it was going to be immensely difficult to retrieve his top half, acknowledging that Buzz was going to see Zurg once the fireworks had ceased and realize that his friend were telling the truth. "It's FIREWORKS."

"For someone who passed the academy, this stress--"

"C'mon, you're getting out of here in one piece and I am the one dying!"

Warp knelt down then grabbed Buzz, struggling, defiantly, to slide him out of the grip by the beam. If there were a firework beneath that, it could work in getting him out of there, never mind the consequences after, Buzz was supposed to live, it would foil Zurg's intention of killing him intentionally, and Warp's great fantasy that he had woven in his mind, for someone quite intelligent, vulnerable, and soft.

"Warp--"

"Don't YOU DARE."

"I love you." Buzz's words achieved the effect as Warp stared at him, his jaw slack, staring, his grip relaxed on the most achievable space ranger. "And I said, go."

"Self destruct in five seconds." the computer chirped.

Buzz selected a button then Warp was sent off, screaming. Warp flew through the open hole out into the sky outside of the lair that was exploding in real time then flew back toward it, the top exploding, shielding his helmet as he came back into the lair. Warp ran around the area searching for him, kicking aside the bodies of drones, knocking aside the fireworks remains for him.

He screamed for his friend, bouncing from one remains of the ground to another, defiantly, with bridges of rubble making it a balancing act between each gap. Until, he found Buzz Lightyear's hand reaching out underneath a pile, twitching. Twitching. A sign of movement beneath the rubble. A sign of hope against disaster.

Warp stared there in horror, shaking his head, then proceeded to find the remains of fireworks around the mount. He had survived at a great physical cost. Then Warp sported a smile, of course! Lightyear could never give up to the realm of death, against the impossible, against disaster, against Zurg. Warp squeezed Lightyear's hand.

"Getting you out, Buzz. Hold on!"

Warp threw aside the debris, piece by piece, even the larger and heavier pieces with strength that hadn't been there, until the subject in question was found.

"NO!"

Lightyear's lifeless body laid there on the ground, helmet shattered in half, his skin cracked, his torso and legs visibly crushed. His hand out reached right where it had once been. Warp screamed, horrified, kneeling down to his level over the top of his lungs and smacked his fist on the ground.

"No! No! NooooOOoOOOoooOOo!"

Zurg appeared among the rubble, his shadow casting over Warp, then there was certain pause as the drones remained stationary.

"He--how---we practiced! This isn't how it were supposed to happen!" Warp's features etched in rage as he lifted his gaze up toward Zurg. "NO!" the android floated back rubbing his helmet. "NO!" his animated features so easily displaying his emotion with both hands on his helmet. "NOOO!"

"You, KILLED, Buzz LIGHTYEAR!"

"It was a accident!"

"MURDERER!"

Warp lunged after the android crashing him to the ground punching into his chassis and helmet repeatedly, yanked back by the drones, kicking, his eyes were red with fury, his skin stained with tears, as the emperor fled the scene loudly weeping. The words 'no!' echoed in the ruins of the lair. A word that sounded utterly hollow and meaningless to the space ranger who could see red. And Warp couldn't get Buzz's final smile off his mind after sending him away.

Warp delivered a sharp upper cut into the drones then turned on his lasers, destroyed them all, all within ten minutes. He looked toward the corpse of the once living embodiment of space rangers then picked him up into his arms, he was intending to leave a arm, but Buzz, Buzz deserves the full space ranger funeral with body in whole.

"Space Ranger Buzz Lightyear sacrificed himself for the success of his mission for the safety of his fellows."

The rocket waited with a door open above the destroyed ruins.

"I. . . Miss him."

His heart ached in pain.

"Warp Darkmatter personal log: In his crazed attempt to destroy Buzz Lightyear, Zurg has robbed the universe of a good man."

Tears fell as looked back down toward the limp form in his arms.

" My partner ."

Warp sucked in the tears, the sorrow, looking up toward the rocket.

" My friend ."

His features became solemn, stone faced, shoving the emotions down for another day.

"On this day, I vow no ranger will fall in harms way because of me."

Warp appeared at the entrance, the door closed behind him, the LGM's features fell in sorrow.

"I, work, alone."

And every day would be spent tolerating being a space ranger making amends for betraying Buzz Lightyear.

Zurg was a enemy, now. Not a friend. Not a employer.
