A Night in Paradise

The night had always been a place for solitude.

For peace, without disturbance.

This very fact was exactly why I had been sitting in a swing from the neighboring park, despite the rain pounding against my flushed cheeks.

I had needed escape.

Straining my eyes in the night, I noticed a figure in the shadows.

It had been watching me for at least ten minutes now.

Cursing my poor vision, I stood and hollered at the silhouette.

"Who are you?"

At this, the person took a few steps closer to me, and in turn, I took a few steps back.

A deep, haughty voice chuckled. "I'm not going to hurt you. I'm just curious as to what you're doing out so late in the pouring rain."

I shrugged. "Not that it's any of your business, but I enjoy the silence of the night, which you're currently disrupting, by the way."

The boy snorted. "Right."

He stalked over in the moonlight and I warily watched every moment he made.

"What do you want?"

He grinned at my blunt tone. "I want to know why I've never seen you before."

I squinted my eyes to see him, but many factors led to him being unrecognizable.

1. It was practically pitch black.

2. It's raining, clouding my vision.

3. I didn't bring my glasses.

"I don't know, if you go to Moltview, it's probably because I'm the only girl who doesn't drool over the arrogant 'bad boy' Peyton Mason." The figure turned to me. "Define bad boy."

I shrugged "Leather jacket, never has any real fun. You know the type."

He was silent for a few moments before speaking up.

"How about we go on an adventure?"

Why am I following a complete stranger around in the middle of the night?

I absentmindedly followed the boy as he gripped my wrist and dragged me over to a cave.

"Okay, I see what's going on. If you're going to kill me, just get it over w-"

A snort echoed throughout the chamber. "I'm not going to kill you."

"Well, that's a relie-" I was cut off at the beauty of what appeared in my line of vision.

A tiny pond was at the end of the cave, decorated in branches and patches of leaves. Light illuminated in the center.

"Gorgeous." I muttered.

"I brought you here to show you that everything isn't what they seem by surface level. And you're much more beautiful than any cave in the world."

I turned to the boy in surprise, but I didn't have much time to admire his words.

He swiftly engulfed me in a kiss, sweet but passionate, as an abundance of emotions overtook me.

It was as if we were the only two people in the world.

He pulled apart, pressing his forehead against mine.

"You are an enigma, Abigail Lance."

I blinked in shock. "You know me?"

"Of course. How could I not know the one person who seems to despise my very being?"

Peyton Mason.
