Throughout the rest of the week, Brooke adjusted to her new role of Lieutenant. It was still a lot to take in at times, considering she had gone from the youngest recruit on the force who was barely taken seriously to a deputy officer in a matter of days.

She felt pride. Both for simply being offered the role and for proving to not only Chief Vincent but to any other senior officer in the NYPD that she could handle big tasks and not fumble with them, like some rookie.

Brooke wasn't the only one who was thrilled about her new role. Ellie, her parents and Casey had all expressed how overjoyed they were for the young brunette to have been offered such a high-ranking position at her humble age.

Ellie had wanted to celebrate her sister's achievement with a special dinner, but Brooke was never one for big events so she denied Ellie's offer. So they had compromised to simply celebrate with ice cream for dinner instead.

"Brookie listen, we never tell anyone about how much we spent on ice cream, okay?" Ellie inquired, fishing out multiple tubs of Ben & Jerry's ice cream from the freezer.

Brooke chuckled. "Yeah, especially mom. She'd kill us" She joked, knowing this was something that they would take to their grave. And they meant that too. The exact amount they had spent on all the sweet frozen food would likely make anyone raise a brow.

The two girls relaxed on their sofa. Brooke propped her feet up on the coffee table and opened up a tub of Strawberry Cheesecake, while Ellie simply sat cross-legged on the couch and reached for the Ben & Jerry's tub of Chocolate Fudge Brownie.

Switching their TV to Netflix, the sisters lazily decided on a movie. Mostly for background noise while they overindulged in the delicacy.

It was nice for the two sisters to simply enjoy their own company. Both loved spending their nights together, it never failed to remind them of when they were teenagers. They'd hang out in their shared bedroom, staying up way past midnight as they binged on pizza and sugary snacks.

A knock on the door interrupted their ice cream gorging. "Oh, are we expecting guests?" Brooke asked, taking another spoonful of ice cream.

Placing down her tub of gelato, Ellie quickly stood to answer the front door. Behind the door, she was pleasantly surprised to find April and Casey standing on the other side.

"Oh, hey you guys" She warmly greeted, quickly inviting them inside.

Seeing April and Casey walk into their apartment, Brooke grinned. "Hey, it's my favourite reporter and former colleague" She declared.

"Hey Katniss" Casey teased her with one of her favourite nicknames that people sometimes called her, courtesy of her similarity to the fictional character. At least in regard to her archery talent.

"Hey, Jonesy-Moansy" Brooke taunted back.

Laughter erupted from April and Ellie. While Ellie went to sit back down on the couch with Brooke, both girls turned on the sofa to face April and Casey who stood just behind them.

"What's with all the ice cream?"

The two sisters caught each other's eye, being unable to hold a straight face after making eye contact they then erupted in hysterics.

Managing to regain her composure for a moment Ellie explained. "Uh, no reason?" She barely managed to get out before Brooke's continuous sniggering caused the older twin to return to her previous laughter.

April and Casey couldn't help but softly smile at the sisters' laughing fits.

"So, anyways, what brings you two here?" Brooke then asked, scooping out another spoonful of ice cream.

They looked at each other for a moment, before Casey spoke up. "Well, in honour of Brooke's promotion, we have a little surprise on the roof" He stated.

"Oh a surprise?" Brooke gleefully asked, always a fan of little revelations.

The two older adults nod, giving no further explanation or hint as to what the surprise was. "Where's the fire escape?" April then asked.

There where to ways to access the fire escape in the girls apartment. Through either of their bedroom windows. Because both of their rooms where right next to each other, they were able to share a fire exit, which also gave all residents of the apartment easy access to the rooftop.

Something both Ellie and Brooke had used to their advantage at some point since they'd started living in the apartment.

With their interests peaked, the girls sealed up their ice cream tubs and placed them back into the freezer before guiding April and Casey into to the fire escape. They ended up using the window in Ellie's room, since her room was much more presentable than Brooke's.

Climbing out onto balcony of the fire escape, Ellie and Brooke waited for either April or Casey to elaborate on their reasoning for why they should've followed them out onto onto the fire exit.

Distant wailing sirens echoed through the valley of the surrounding architecture, lights of nearby apartments and other buildings illuminated around the four of them as they all stood on the balcony.

Just as Ellie and Brooke both opened their mouths to question why they had been brought out into the night time chill of their neighbourhood, April and Casey began to climb up the ladder which lead to the verandah, while indicating for the girls to follow.

As they followed April and Casey up the ladder to the rooftop of their apartment, they were greeted by a gentle breeze that lightly blew their brunette locks. Reaching the top, they were pleasantly surprised to see Leo, Raph, Donnie and Mikey on the rooftop.

"Oh, what the hell?" Brooke gushed, a grin quickly spreading across her face as she helped Ellie up onto the rooftop.

Both sisters where again happily surprised to see their other friends. Especially on the rooftop of their apartment. "What you guys doing here?" Ellie asked.

Mikey practically bounced over to them, always enthusiastic to see the twins. "Well, a pretty little birdie told us that Brookie here," He paused for a quick moment to ruffle her hair, which pulled a chuckle from Brooke. "Got herself a promotion" He extolled.

Brooke grinned. "Yeah, that would be correct" She tried to remain humble.

The grin on Mikey's face grew. "And we're here to celebrate" He announced.

Looking around the rooftop, the two girls realised that the top of their apartment had a large knitted blanket spread out across the concrete terrace and true to the turtles, a few boxes of pizza were rested on the centre of the quilt.

Ellie elbowed her sister. "I told you we should've celebrated more than just by eating ice cream" She acknowledged, pointing out that the sisters really could've had a better celebration for Brooke than just overindulging in the sweetness of ice cream.

"Sorry" Brooke admitted.

Sitting down on the laid out blanket, it easily allowed all eight of them to sit comfortably. Ellie and Brooke sat next to each other, of course, while Casey sat on the left side of Brooke with April to his right. The four brothers finished the circle, with Mikey calling dibs on the spot next to April and Leo ending up next to Ellie while Raph and Donnie sat interchangeably in-between the oldest and youngest.

The sun began to set, casting a warm golden glow over the tranquil rooftop where the group had gathered. Laughter and excitement filled the air as they came together to celebrate Brooke's new position as Lieutenant over hot pizzas. The rooftop buzzed with a contagious energy and radiating pride.

"Brookie?" Casey then called for her attention.

"Hm?" She hummed for a response.

"Do you know if Damien knows yet?" He questioned, knowing that if Damien did he was likely extremely irked about the situation.

Brooke's lips curled into a smirk. "He may or may not have seen me walking around with the badge on my uniform" She proclaimed, brushing off her shoulder.

Upon hearing that, Ellie and Casey bursted into laughter. "Oh, I would've given anything to see the look on his face" Casey chuckled, holding his hand up for Brooke to high-five, which she gladly did.

The turtles and April watched in confusion, obviously not being aware of the situation or tension between Brooke and Damien.

"Who's Damien?" Mikey asked with a mouthful of pizza, clearly very interested in knowing about him and his relevance to Brooke.

Leo quickly began to scold Mikey for talking while eating, and also for bluntly asking about the identity of Damien incase it was a sensitive subject for Brooke

Luckily, she didn't seem to find the question too personal. "He's a recruit at the department" She explained, in her peripheral, Brooke could see the look that Ellie and Casey gave each other. The one that said, we know more than what you're telling them.

The archer knew that Ellie wouldn't say what she was thinking, the same couldn't be said for Casey. "And he's also-" He tried to add.

As he went to tell them more, Brooke tightly pinched his arm. "That's enough from you" She spoke through gritted teeth, with an irritated smile. Clearly whatever Casey was going to tell them, she didn't people knowing.

"I was- I was just messing with you, Brookie" He continued to chuckle, as he pulled his arm away.

"Bullshit, now I don't wanna hear his name for the rest of the night, you got me?" She quipped, her tone was silvery but the meaning of her words were completely serious. And everyone could tell that.

So, Casey put his hands up in a surrendering position. "Loud and clear, Lieutenant" He agreed, jokingly putting his hand to his forehead and saluting her like a soldier would to their commanding officer.

Brooke rolled her eyes at him and his antics, but anyone could see the smirk that pulled at the corners of her lips.

Just like when they had first hung out as a group after the chaos of events involving the Foot Clan, Shredder and Krang, quips and laughter was thrown about within the group, only now they seemed more casual and easy flowing instead of the previous time.

The night actually turned out to be an unexpected revelling rendezvous for all parties. And while she may have had struggles saying so herself, Brooke was grateful to her friends for their celebration of her promotion within the department. Both her human and mutant ones.
