Ayana's P. O. V

"Well until I walked into the picture, quite literally."

Krisanne cuts me off and I laugh at the memory of how we both became best friends in school. She gives me a smile before continuing.

"Well, that happens later. First, I met Vihaan when we were both in the sixth grade. He had this habit of coming to the park after school and just like Ayana explained, he was like a lost soul. I used to visit the same park, to do the same thing, to try to forget my loneliness-" Amber cuts Krisanne off.

"Why loneliness?" she asks and an awkward silence drops. This is a touchy topic for Krisanne and I am about to dismiss it when Krisanne does something shocking, she starts off with the sad part of her story.

"Well, I was a very fat kid, fatter than I am now. So obviously, once fourth grade rolled in, I got majorly ragged for my weight. I'm not particularly attractive-"
I cut her off.

"Stop. Lying. You are beautiful, fuck people who say otherwise," I say this unbelievably sappy line, very seriously.

Things I do for my friends

"Yeah whatever, so I got ragged and my friends were forced to leave me. We really tried to keep up the friendship, but eventually I forced them away. Then came an epic betrayal by my best friend. I went through hell and I used to find solace in my paints and colors. I was always interested in art and it peaked during this time. I used to go to the park and spend hours, sketching stuff around there."

"Once, I sketched Vihaan when I saw him, because I could relate to him, alot. Then, I sketched him again and again, from different positions. One day, he caught me and he really liked my work. So he offered to be my model for the sketches. I was shocked at first because I expected him to be angry. He didn't do anything like that and he became my model. It went for a week before we had a real conversation."

"Uh- what's your name?" he asks me, his hands in his pocket and a cute expression on his face. I look at him from above the hem of my glasses and scratch my head.

"Krisanne," I say and he smiles.

"I'm Vihaan. Well, since I helped you with your paintings, will you help me too?" he asks me and I nod, silently wondering what he needs.

"That's how we became friends. Well I helped him too in taking photographs from weird angles and like Ayana said, I felt happier and more free when I was around him. He was fun and nice to be around. So, he became my best friend or my only friend then."

Amber sat nodding throughout Krisanne's talk, while I was imagining the entire scene, as she was narrating it.

"Now, how did you and Ayana become friends?" Amber asks and I chuckle again, as the memory plays in my head.

"Well, somehow, my mother came to know about Vihaan. She realised he's my only friend and she could do anything to make me happy, so she transferred me to Vihaan's school. That's where I met Ayana."

"When I joined school, I realised I had tough competition, for Vihaan's attention. Not that I wanted the competition, I wanted to be friends with this mad lady as well, but Ayana being Ayana, had different plans. She didn't humiliate me, or insult me or anything. Infact, sometimes when someone, even by mistake called me fat, she'd be there, by my side to show them their place. Only with me, she was not cordial. She would barely talk to me. This confused the shit out of me. After sometime and great observation, I realised that this girl here, was just paranoid. She was scared I'd ditch her like the other girls and I'd spoil her friendship with Vihaan. I tried my best to mend it with her, convincing her that nothing like that will happen, and it was showing effect slowly. But on the photograph day, in that one moment, I don't know what changed. After that one moment, we became inseparable."

"Our school had a tradition of clicking class photographs, what you guys call year books. Vihaan always stood beside the photographer, having a camera of his own. He would snap a few good shots of his friends. We were standing in line with our batch, Ayana behind me, waiting for our turn. Suddenly, I noticed Vihaan turning to us. His camera ready to capture us, or more like a lost-in-her-own-world Ayana. Vihaan's friends has made bunny ears with their fingers above her head, making her look funny."

"In that moment, I did what struck me first. Unfortunately, it was a ridiculous idea. Vihaan was about to click the photo when I jut myself into the frame, my tongue out and eyes squint. I even made bunny ears with my hands behind my head and Vihaan took the picture. Well, Ayana didn't look bad at all or even if she did, it's not like anyone noticed her because of the joker standing beside her a.k.a me. After that, I don't know which lighting struck her, but she's stuck to me with fevicol."

I laugh out loud again, the picture flashing in front of my eyes. Amber is chuckling too, giving Krisanne a sympathetic smile.

Krisanne just adjusted her glasses on her nose and shrugged.

"So that's how we became the inseparable three," I finish and Amber nods.

Krisanne decides to ask her question next."What's you're story?"

Amber sighs and her fingers start fiddling with the bed sheets underneath her.

"Well, my story is pretty relatable to yours, just like I told you guys before. I'm in Junior year in school. I have my house maid Evelyn who does all the things my mother was supposed to be doing. Why is my mother not doing it for me, you may ask? Well because she took off the minute she realised that my eyeballs were going bad and I would loose my eye sight."

I speak up in between."Wait what? You mean-"

She completes my sentence for me."Yes, I was not born blind. And yes, it's fixable. There's a chance I might see again. My mother though, couldn't live with the fact that I couldn't see. So after that, she would always fly out with my father, so she could avoid taking care of me. My father was never there, so his absence or presence barely made any difference. My brother Rey is too stuck up in the fact that he lost his family to realise he has a sister. My friends left me because well, who would want someone they would have to walk with just so she doesn't fall face first on the floor. Boyfriends are a far etched dream. So yeah, I spend most of my life in the confines of my house, just whiling my life away. So yeah, that's pretty much my story."

I give her a sad smile which, even though she can't see, I'm sure she can feel. You can call it sixth sense. Krisanne is already crying. She hugs Amber hard the minute she finishes and I hold Amber's hand.

Well such situations are awkward for me, so yeah...

"Okay, time for my question. How did you and Ethan meet?" I ask her and she smiles softly.

"Because of Ethan's younger sister, Riley. Riley and I were friends when we were younger and then my blindness happened. Don't blame her though, she was just five. She got influenced and she feared loosing her friends. She tries to compensate for that now, but I don't want it. Anyway, so because we were friends, our elder brothers were often sent to the park with us to take care of us. That's how those two nutcases became friends. While we separated, they stuck together."

I nod and that's when the phone rings, disrupting our talk.
