Ooh, and about the maraca. It's true. Ms. Streker was my 9th grade spanish teacher. It was soo funny.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

"Hola Chicos," my teacher for three years now, Ms. Streker, greeted us. "You may sit where you like."

Callie dragged Damian and I to the furthest back desks and sat down. I glanced over the classroom to see if I knew anyone. One person caught my full attention as he began walking towards me. I groaned inwardly.

"Hey, Madison," the standoff-y rich guy who had liked me for the last two years, greeted me.

"Hi, Nick," I replied with fake enthusiasm. "How was your summer?"

"Excellent," he informed me. "My family let me choose the place where we would go for vacation. Guess where?"

"Where?" I asked to humor him.

"France," he told me nodding. Oh how I hated him. "It was a lovely city... it's too bad you didn't want to come with me. Not many people from here get the chance to go to France."

"Yeah," I replied.

"You want to go right?"

"Yeah," I gritted my teeth. Did he like to annoy me?

"France is lovely. You really should of came."

"Ah, France," Damian's voice appeared from behind me before I had a chance to say anything. "What a lively city. It's very elegant."

"You've been there...?" Nick asked turning to Damian. Surprised crossed his face when he saw him. "Are you new here? May I ask your name?"

"Indeed. It's Damian," he informed him, flashing a smile.

I rolled my eyes. What a faker.

"It was a fun trip, wasn't it Callie?" Damian mused to Nick, and then inclined his head towards Callie.

"Tons of fun!" she chirped nodding.

"Ah..." Nick sighed, and then took my hand in his. "Next time, you should join me so I can take you to your very first trip to France."

The bell had rung, but Ms. Streker was talking to another Spanish teacher so class wouldn't be starting yet. I sighed, knowing he wouldn't leave until class began.

"I don't think-" I started before being cut off.

"It won't be her first trip," Damian interposed casually while he pretended to flip through his empty notebook.

"What do you mean?" Nick asked dropping my hand.

"She came with me last time," Damian stated as Nick looked back and forth between Damian and myself.

"Wha-" I started in shock but Callie cut me off.

"Oh that's right!" She cried loudly causing a few people's heads to turn. I waved them off.

"You- you went w-with him?" Nick stuttered with disbelief.

"Well," I began and caught Damian's eye. He smirked and nodded his head. I shook my head back. "I-I didn't-"

Damian shook his head frowning as Callie quickly chirped in. "Yeah, at first she didn't want to, but Damian came in and swooped her off her feet!"

"No!" I denied, turning to Nick but he wasn't listening. Of course, the one moment he wasn't listening to me was the moment I actually wanted him to.

"I see..." Nick muttered, frowning. He then faced Damian. "What is your relation?"

"Married couple!" Callie chirped brightly to the surprise to Damian and myself. "Over the summer!"

"What!" Nick cried, but his cry was drown out by Damian's and my own.

"We are not!"

Callie looked taken aback. Nick let out a sigh of relief.

Before we could say anything more Ms. Streker shook her maraca. Literally. She had this maraca from Spain that she shook to get everyone's attention. I turned in my seat to look forward after giving Callie a sour look. Nick frowned as the space next to me that was taken by my friend Gabe, so he had to sit in the front, on the other side of the room. I held in an evil laugh.

"Review time," were the first words out of Ms. Streker's mouth. The class groaned in unison while Ms. Streker swooped her eyes around the classroom. I looked too. Most of the people had been in Ms. Streker's class with me that last two years, but some of them I knew hadn't.

"Ah," Ms. Streker said with her eyes on Damian, then Callie. "I see we have new students this year."

Damian and Callie both nodded.

"Como se llaman, chicos?"

"She asked your name," I muttered to a clueless Callie, whose smile had faded as Ms. Streker spoke.

"Me llama, Damian. Ella se llama Callie," Damian answered for the both of them.

"Muy bien!" Ms. Streker complimented, glowing. I sighed. Damian was such a show off... I would've never guessed. "Now. Let's us start the review."

She handed out textbooks and brand new workbooks. Which was good, since my other one had fallen apart. The class went on while we reviewed simple verbs such as "Llorar" and "Tener". After a few minutes, she handed out a test for us to take. It was simple, so I finished very quickly... but not as quickly as Damian who smirked as I handed in my test right after him. I ignored him and returned to my seat.

A few people in class worked almost right up to the bell while I sat in my seat half hanging on the edge of it while my arm dangled loosely over the edge of the desk. I could've fallen asleep if it weren't for Callie. Every five minutes she'd toss a note at me that usually said things like "Hi!" or "What's up?" or "I'm bored" and stupid notes like that.

When the bell finally rang I gladly left the classroom, a fresh pile of paper now in the once empty recycle bin, and headed straight to my next class. Callie went off to her next class and Damian, being nice enough to take my books to my locker, went to it to drop of our Spanish books. Luckily I had study hall next so I could relax and do nothing

I pulled out my schedule and checked who my study hall teacher was. I grinned, yet again I had a class with one of my favorite teachers. Mr. Ritt was quite the teacher. In my freshman year Dustin had been skateboarding in the hall during the science fair and Mr. Ritt had caught him doing so. But instead of yelling at him, Mr. Ritt had taken the skateboard, and rid it himself! I was happy to have him for study hall because it meant it was definitely not going to be a silent study.

I headed towards the stairs and started to climb. Mr. Ritt was a ninth grade Language Arts teacher and the middle school was on the third floor. When I reached the top floor I saw the guidance councilor, Ms. Thompson, helping students find their next classes. I slid past a group of students who were anxiously awaiting their chance to talk to her and continued to my class. When I entered my classroom, a big hug greeted me.

"Maddie! I'm so glad you're in this class with me!" Dustin cried while I pulled myself away from him. Kim and Emmett smiled behind him.

"This study hall is going to be awesome!" Emmett stated looking stoked. I surveyed the rest of the room. There were a few freshman gathered in the corner, more people from our class and one or two seniors. Mr. Ritt was at his desk, already taking attendance. Emmett and Dustin dragged me to one of the back corners of the classroom and sat me down.

"Have you seen the freshman?" Dustin asked grinning. Dustin was one for gossiping. The thought made me smile.

"Yeah," Kim said in a bored tone. "Who hasn't?"

"Is it me, or do they keep getting shorter?" Emmett asked grinning, and then shook his head.

"It might be that we are getting taller..." I suggested shrugging.

"No matter what, it's their first day here!" Dustin said with a smirk. "Let's torture them!"

"No!" Kim and I cried simultaneously.

"I remember my first day here..." Emmett drawled with a dreamy look.

"Really?" Dustin asked.

"No, not really," Emmett replied and we all laughed.

"Having fun?" a bright voice chirped from behind the others and me.

"Callie?" I asked turning around and, sure enough, Callie was standing there alongside Damian. That's right, I remembered, Damian had almost all classes with me.

"Ooh, this looks like it's going to be a fun class!" Callie announced as her eyes scanned over our little group.

"Yeah," muttered Dustin as he cast his eyes on Damian. "Real fun."

Damian returned Dustin's look with a light smile and then turned towards Emmett. Emmett grinned at him and waved. There was a few seconds of silence until I cleared my throat.

"Huh- oh! The name's Emmett," Emmett greeted, extending his hand to Damian. He took it and shook it.

"Damian."

"I'm Callie," Callie said and then took Emmett's hand once he had let go of Damian's.

"Nice to meet you," Emmett replied with a grin.

"Oh guys," I interjected while gesturing towards Kim. "This is my friend Kim."

"Hi!" Kim smiled. "Maddie sure knows how to introduce people!"

Callie and Damian chuckled and I frowned. I didn't see anything wrong with the way that I introduced Kim to them.

"Damian?" Mr. Ritt's voice floated over to us and we all turned to the front of class. "Damian?"

"Here," Damian responded while raising his hand a little. Mr. Ritt then nodded and, I guessed, he wrote that Damian was here on the attendance list. We all gave each other looks with smiles hidden beneath them.

Before I, or anyone else, could say anything the bell rang and everybody rushed for a seat. Damian took a seat to my right, and Dustin quickly took the one on my left. I grimaced inwardly. This'll be fun. Sitting between the two that don't seem to get along.

Everyone else in our little group sat near us. Emmett sat in front of me, Kim in front of Damian and Callie in front of Dustin. Even though there was a row of empty seats behind me, no one sat there. Which was quite fine with me.

"Alright quiet down for a second," Mr. Ritt started with a serious face. The class went silent. "This year, this class will be a quiet study."

A groan swept through the room and I heard Dustin gasp in disbelief. I held back my laughter at that.

"Are you serious?" one of the seniors scoffed rudely.

"Yes," Mr. Ritt replied. "For attitudes exactly like that."

The senior that had said that muttered something and those around him chuckled. I sighed. What fun was a study hall if it was going to be a silent study?

Mr. Ritt talked on for a while, telling us he was going to be very strict on the no talking policy. What he really meant was that if you talked, you got detention. Guess I'd be going to the library a lot.

The class obeyed Mr. Ritt's rules and kept quiet. I heard Dustin muttering almost through out the entire class. I kicked his chair quite a few times. At one point he and Emmett both burst out laughing. I felt left out. I sighed and pressed my forehead against my desk and waited for lunch. Since I had second, fifth period was split in two.

When the bell rang I made a beeline for the exit but before I could take two steps Dustin grabbed my shoulder.

"Lunch!"

"I know," I said rolling my eyes. Did he think I was stupid?

"Where are you sitting?" This question took me off guard.

"With you, of course," I told him and he sighed in relief.

"I thought you were going to sit with him." Ah. Damian.

"Dustin," I frowned, "don't be so mean."

"I don't like him!" Dustin complained shooting Damian a piqued look.

"You don't even know him," I replied a little hurt. I was afraid that if I ever wanted to be more to Damian, which I'm sure I would, that Dustin would began to hate me. "Try to get to know him."

"I don't need to," Dustin muttered as we moved into the hallway.

"Fine," I replied sighing. "If you really don't want to sit with him, we won't."

"Thanks, Maddie," Dustin said smiling. I smiled back half-heartedly. Anything for Dustin I guess. I noticed Kim coming towards me with Emmett, Damian and Callie.

"I asked Damian and Callie to sit with us," she informed me. Dustin tensed, but I felt relief wash through me. Even if Dustin didn't want to sit with Damian, I did. But I didn't want to let Dustin down. Or have him not sit with me. I struggled internally with this.

"If Dustin doesn't want us to sit with you guys," Damian's voice entered my bickering mind, "we can sit somewhere else."

"Aww," I heard Callie complain. "But I-"

"It's fine," Dustin muttered austerely. He then turned and stalked off towards the cafeteria.

"Dustin, wait!" I called after him, frowning.

"I'm saving us a table," he called back. I heard anger and hurt under his false informing tone.

What was wrong with him? I bit my lip, becoming angry. He didn't even know Damian or Callie! I had a sinking suspicion that it was only Damian he had the problem with. I clenched my fist. Damian and his family had only been in this town for three days now! And Dustin had been here for only two of the days so far, there hadn't been enough time to get to know him, let alone hate him!

"Maddie?" I felt someone's hand on my shoulder. "Are you okay?"

I didn't realize I had been standing still, looking at the ground until I looked up at Emmett's worried expression. I quickly smiled at him.

"Oh, I'm okay," I lied. Well it was partially the truth. I was okay, just a little bit angry. I also felt a little bit awkward for feeling so upset about it too.

"Okay." Emmett didn't sound convinced to me. I looked around and noticed everyone besides Damian had left.

"They went to lunch," Damian informed me when he noticed I was looking around. I nodded before walking towards the cafeteria. Emmett walked beside me, pointing out freshmen he knew. I listened passively, nodding my head as he told me the names as Damian followed behind us slowly.

The bell rang just as we entered the lunchroom, and I noticed right away Callie was waving us over to her. I walked straight over to her, not bothering to stop in the lunch line. I wasn't feeling too hungry. I pulled out a chair next to Dustin and sat down. He looked up at me and grinned. I smiled back.

"Hungry?" he asked pushing his tray towards me. I shook my head and pushed it back.

"It's not good to skip meals," Damian told me as he took seat next to me. I swallowed. I was hoping he'd sit across from me. I glanced at Dustin, who had tensed. I bit my lip again.

"Hey guys," Emmett said breaking the silence as he took a seat. "What is everyone's next class?"

Thank you Emmett! I looked up at him with relief. I owed him, big time. Even if he didn't realize he had broken an awkward silence.

I already new my next class had Damian in it, but it was a surprise to learn that Dustin was also in it, along with Callie. If only they would get along, I thought looking at between Damian and Dustin. Maybe since they had two classes together they would get along eventually. Maybe if Callie and Dustin started dating... I stopped there. Would Callie ever want Dustin? With her looks I was sure she could get anyone she wanted. I didn't even know if she was single or not... I frowned. I actually didn't know if Damian was single either... I decided to ignore that thought.

Lunch went by without incident. Dustin gradually became his optimistic self and began joking around with everyone. But I did notice his lack of enthusiasm whenever Damian talked to him. But I guess it was good that he was actually replying to him. When the bell rang, all of us pushed through the crowd to get into the hall. And when I say 'pushed' I actually mean; Dustin grabbed me, formed a chain with the others and pushed me threw the crowds of people until we reached the hallway. I received plenty of dirty looks.

The rest of fifth period flew by quickly. Dustin got sent into the hall for making Emmett laugh too much, and I almost got in trouble for yelling at Kim because she kept bugging me about Damian. I counted down the seconds until the bell rang. When it finally did, I quickly escaped from the room. Everyone else was right behind me.

"I'll come with you to you're locker." Dustin's words made my heart drop a little. I had no problem with him accompanying me to my locker, but I was afraid what he would say when he noticed I had to share a locker with Damian.

"I'm going right to class," Damian told me before turning in the opposite direction that Dustin, Callie and I were headed. I silently thanked him.

"Let's go then!" Callie chirped brightly as she walked into the mass of students milling about in the halls.

The three of us meandered our way towards my locker, avoiding the middle lunch students rushing towards the cafeteria. I searched around in my pocket for my schedule. History. Inwardly, I groaned. All the History teachers at this school were very spiteful of the students. It wasn't our fault we thought they taught the subject rather stodgy and top-heavy with facts. It took the fun right out of it.

I stopped at my locker and hesitantly proceeded to do the combo. What would Dustin's reaction be when he saw Damian's coat? I swallowed, not wanting to know. If Dustin were really my friend, he wouldn't let someone we barely know come between us, right? I took a breath and opened my locker.

I gasped.

Everything of Damian's was gone. Only my coat, and my few loose papers were bestrewed along the silver bottom of the locker. I stepped on the bottom of the locker to look at the shelf on the top. Nothing.

"What's wrong, Maddie?" Dustin asked, towering over me to see what I was looking at. Of course he wouldn't be able to, because there was nothing there.

"N-nothing," I lied, surprise still evident in my voice. I gave Callie a questioning look. She smiled back at me when she saw I was looking. Then slammed her locker door shut.

"Ready?"

I expeditiously closed my locker and twisted on my heel. I was ready... to ask Damian how he managed to clear his belongings out of my locker so quick. But was he in my next class? I couldn't remember.

"What class?" Dustin asked as I started to move towards History.

"History," Callie and I replied at the same time.

"Nice," Dustin grinned as he continued to follow alongside Callie and I. I took it he had History with us. I took a deep breath. Did I want Damian in this class now? Of course I did. But it would also be nice to have a class with just Dustin, another side of myself argued. I shook my head. Enough thinking.
