Drip. Drip. Drip. Water dripped from the eaves onto the porch. It had rained all day today, the storm only having let up a couple of hours ago.

"Why can't we go outside?" Evie crossed her arms and rolled her eyes. "I wanna go puddle-jumping!"

"Because it's wet and cold, and you'll get sick." I was not putting up with her whining.

"So? We're on fall break still."

I shook my head firmly. "Yeah, and it ends on Sunday, which is two days from now. You don't want to miss any school, do you?"

Evie was the studious one. I personally relished the rare moments I didn't have to suffer through the cruel and unusual punishment that was Algebra I with Ms. Collins.

"Not really," she admitted. "But I am bored to death."

I listened to the dripping. It was soothing in an odd manner.

What can I do to keep my sister from dying of boredom?

"Okay. What do you want to do? We can play a board or card game, watch a movie, do a craft—the choice is yours."

Her eyes lit up at the prospect of playing a card game. "Can we play Uno or Exploding Kittens?"

"I think I'll pick Exploding Kittens."

She nodded in agreement before running to the game cabinet to retrieve the game. Once we set everything up and refreshed our memories on the rules, the match began. It was fierce indeed. Multiple times I nearly got blown up to smithereens (and therefore losing the game).

Thank goodness for diffuse cards.

As our battle continued, Evie grew over-confident. At last, she didn't even bother to make sure she had plenty of diffuse cards. I smirked as she set down what would be her last card: an exploding kitten.

"Ka-boom! I win!" I hooted.

The look on her face was priceless. It was the perfect mixture of shock, disappointment, and betrayal. I laughed evilly, sounding just like a supervillain.

"Hey! That's no fair." Evie pouted.

I snickered. "Sure is. Anyway, what about a peace offering? I'll make us some hot cocoa. How does that sound?"

"Yes, please!" She grinned, all thoughts of her humiliation lost.

We trekked over to the kitchen. The sun was starting to peek out of the clouds. As I prepared two mugs of hot chocolate, I realized just how much I loved my sister.

What would I do without you, Evie? You've changed me in so many ways.
