"Please?" Evan pouted.

"I already told you, Evan, I'm busy tomorrow." Connor kept walking down the street.

"Doing what?"

"...Reading and...studying...?" Connor tried.

"On Halloween?" Evan chuckled nervously, "I'm...not sure that's normal, Con."

"Well, it is for me." Connor snapped.

Evan frowned. He'd hardly been dating Connor for a month but knew he was never snappy like this, something must've been wrong.

"Just...hang out with Jared?" Connor brushed the subject off.

"He just makes fun of me..." Evan mumbled.

"Well- just- find something to do." Connor growled irritably before turning up his own driveway once they reached it.

Evan watched his boyfriend with a sad expression, waiting for a moment for him to do something...just something to acknowledge that they were okay...alas, nothing. Connor simply unlocked his door and slammed it shut quickly, leaving Evan alone and disheveled.

***

Connor didn't show up to school the next day, leaving Evan to awkwardly walk to school alone, in a unicorn onesie, taking the jeers without replies. Without Connor, Evan was the same, scared boy that hid under the lunch tables in the cafeteria like he was before he had met Connor.

Evan got called a lot of suggestive words before he finally reached his first period class.
He let out a sigh.
This was going to be a long day.

***

And that it was.
By the end of the day, Evan had a black eye, an actual one for once, turns out people truly do think that junior guys shouldn't dress up in unicorn onesies on Halloween.

Evan was more than frustrated on his walk home.
First, Connor snaps at him.
Second, he doesn't come to school.
Third, he doesn't respond to any texts he's sent.
Evan knew he shouldn't be so clingy but he also knew that Connor shouldn't be such a dick about this...it upsetted him.
As Evan neared Connor's house, he saw that there were no cars in the driveway, but Connor's bedroom light was still on- it was flickering as if it'd been on all night.

Evan scowled, it was happening again.
When Connor pulled an all-nighter...it usually meant he was taking something and couldn't fall asleep- it would also explain why he's so grouchy...it happened maybe once a month and then Evan would talk Connor out of it- but he wasn't up for it this time so it seemed...

"S-screw it..." Evan grumbled, already pissy that his unicorn onesie had milk stains on it from people throwing cartons, suddenly feeling like somehow Connor was the cause of his anger and not that.

Evan hardly got angry...but when he did- he wasn't sensible.

Evan marched up to the Murphy's door and grabbed the knob to jiggle it in hopes of someone hearing it and coming to answer. However, Evan was surprised to find that the door opened when he touched the knob.

Evan paused and nervously shuffled in, "H-hello...? Is...is anybody there?" He whispered, shutting the door quietly before looking around and the dark household, "I-I'm sorry...I'm...just coming t-to check and see i-if Connor is here..."

No response.

Evan made the decision to head up to Connor's room, figuring he'll feel a lot safer somewhere more familiar. So, he wound up the stairs at a slow pace before reaching the door of Connor's room down the hall upstairs, and he found that it was a crack open, warm light flooding into the hallway.

"H-hello...?" Evan called.

There was a rustling sound and Evan froze.

Not moments later, a dark-chocolate-brown Weimaraner bounded out of the room with a snarl and mighty leap as he pushed Evan to the ground, snarling in his face as Evan screamed suddenly.

The dog seemed to perk upon seeing Evan's face and whined for a moment before licking tears away from the corners of Evan's eyes, violently wagging its tail and head-butting the small boy.

Evan giggled nervously and sat up.

The dog moved back and sat in front of Evan obediently.

"C-Connor has a d-dog?" Evan gasped, "And- and he left it home alone?" He got up and walked into Connor's room, gasping when he saw the sheets were a mess and everything was thrown around. Evan looked beyond confused before turning to the dog who cocked its head.

"Y-you're messy fella, huh? Did Connor leave you here for a day trip? Is that why he was being so...so mean?" Evan frowned.

The dog suddenly hung its head low and waddled over to Evan who had moved to sit on the edge of Connor's bed.

The dog let out a whine and put its head on Evan's knee.

Evan smiled and patted the dog's head, "Good girl."

The dog yelped and Evan flinched.

"G-good...boy?" Evan tried and the dog huffed in response, jumping up beside Evan and leaning against the boy.

"Aw, affectionate little thing." Evan grinned.

The dog woofed in response and Evan beamed.

"What's your name?" Evan began to grab for the dog's collar, but it quickly panicked and flopped down against Evan, flattening him like a pancake.

Evan gasped, "I feel blessed." He looked at the dog who was now taking a nap on him.

The dog gave Evan's face a finally little kiss before resting his head on Evan's chest.

"I can't. Move." Evan whispered.

The dog was already asleep.

Soon after, despite the semi-uncomfortable position, Evan fell asleep as well.

***

Evan had always been an early riser, so it was natural for him to be the first one up. He began to get up before feeling a pressing weight on his chest and looking down to see Connor laying on top of him, hugging him around his neck with his chin rested contently on Evan's chest, eyes closed in sleep.

Evan smiled and brushed a hand through Connor's hair, "A-aw...sweet little-" He stiffened up, as he put twi and two together, "Oh- oH MY GOD YOU'RE A-"

Connor woke up with a start and scrambled backwards while Evan retreated to the other side of the bed.

"E-Evan? What are you- what are you doing here?" Connor chocked out.

"Y-you- you were- you were a-"

"Shit, you slept over didn't you?" Connor's face turned red and he brushed a hand through his hair, "How much did you see?"

"YOU- I-" Evan thought about this for moment...exposing boyfriend, or good boyfriend...decisions, decisions... "oh my god, Connor how could you not tell me you had a dog?"

Connor froze, "I-"

"He must be a mutt since he's gone now but you should have s-seen him! He was r-really cute." Evan nodded, thankful for taking a year of acting.

"He...was?" Connor's face turned a darker shade of red.

"The cutest! Oh my gosh, I wanted to just kiss his l-little face all day, he was so precious." Evan giggled.

Connor was grinning from ear to ear before noticing this and clearing his throat, "W-well, that's cool, I guess, yeah, he's pretty chill."

Evan stood up and waddled over to his boyfriend with a grin, "He sure is."
