 Week 5

Words - Astroturf, Pop Can, and Balloon

Song - Kaleidoscope Eyes by Panic! At The Disco

Thousands of fans fill seats overlooking the green Astroturf, waiting for a glimpse of their favorite players. Two of the greatest teams to have ever play the game of hockey face off across the field. Nestled among the grandstands speakers boom above the noise, as the announcers warm up for the start.

"Welcome to the seven hundred and fifty eight inter national field hockey tournament. My name is Brendan Urie and I'm here today at the Emerald City with my old friend Spencer Smith, how are you today?"

"Great actually Brendan, I have a fresh pop can of sugar water, I'm hyped and ready to see some fantastic stick action out there today."

"I'm sure we will Spence. Today's teams are long time rivals the Androids versus the Martians. Let me tell you that the Androids have a lot of solid players on field today."

"I won't argue with that, but I will say all the attention today will be on the league's oldest player Leonard Cat. He just had his forty second birthday last week and is still going strong."

"Strong indeed he holds the record for the most goals in one game and his game averages are still going strong."

"With the Martians into the finals next week if they make this game, there is a lot of talk about this maybe being his last season. What do you think Brendan"

"I don't think there is a chance in hell he will be leaving at the end of this season."

"Well I know one thing there is a lot of love for him in the crowd today. I see a lot of fans wearing sixes out there, let's see if he can deliver the goods."

"We will see, as they are set to go and we are off and hitting."

And so the game goes, as one half turns into the second and the minutes slip by. Both teams show extraordinary skills, racing neck and neck, both on six goals. The fans meanwhile, cheer and wave balloons, on the edge of their seats hoping that their team will be the one to get up towards the end. As a penalty round looms the unspeakable happens.

"I DON'T BELIEVE IT! Number two for the Androids, has just hit Leonard Cat with an illegal shot. That was just criminal."

"There it is... he is being sent off now. Brendan that has to be a career ending move right there?"

"Such a malice strike, it looks like Leonard's stick has snapped and he is down. I think he is in some serious trouble out there."

"I know someone else that is in serious trouble and that's number two for the Androids. There will be a good hard look into what went through his head right before that moment."

"Hold on Spencer, we are getting word on the condition of Leonard from the field... It seems the foul strike that broke his stick has also cracked his leg."

"What a tragic circumstance for Cat that is. It looks like someone else from the Martians will be taking that penalty shot for him now."

"WAIT A MINUTE! What's going on now?"

"OH MY GOD! I don't believe it. He has removed the leg from his thorax and has declared he will take the shot himself."

"Spencer is that the wisest move on his part? Will he be able to make it with only five legs?"

"I don't know but we are going to see shortly. Somebody needs to bring him another stick."

"Wait! Is he doing what I think? YES, YES HE IS! Leonard Cat is going to use his disembodied leg to take the shot."

"Is that legal? Brendan I believe you're not allowed to use appendages on the ball during play. How does he expect to get away with this?"

"Actually the leg is no longer an appendage since it has been disconnected from the body it is effectively classified as an object. Interesting fact here. The leg stiffens in cases of extreme trauma as a defence mechanism making it harder to swallow "

"The more interesting question I think, is can he make this shot with only five legs and kaleidoscope eyes?"

"Here he goes! He lines it up, he shoots and ...IT'S IN! He has done it."

"Leonard Cat makes the shot and wins the game seven to six, proving that computing power is nothing when put against the raw talent of a more complex being."

"Well I would say that was a disappointing loss for the Androids but I don't think they feel that way."

"Maybe for their fans, but you know Brendan, I can see a lot of ecstatic Leonard Cat fans out there too. What a day for them."

"What a day for them indeed. This might be the last time they see their champion this season. I can't see him playing the finals in this condition."

"I guess we will have to wait and see."

With a penalty shot the great Leonard Cat propelled the Martians into the finals and the history books. It went on to be one of the most memorable moments in hockey history. Number six, Leonard Cat went on to play many more seasons, none quite as memorable but still showed incredible commitment to the game.

That was until he lost his head in a mating frenzy with a crazed fan.
