Heyho kids!

Soooo.... you know when you dig through some old WIPs from ages ago, and then find something where you're like "Dang, I can't believe I never finished that." before wanting to finish it (but instead just kinda redrawin the whole thing bc of improvement)??

Yeah. That's more or less what happened over here with my boy Alagion. Some of you may remember these outfits I designed for him a long while ago:

and tbh I still think those are great, which is a rather rare case when looking at my old clothing designs xD

But yeah! So I went ahead and dug out this old file, with that portrait I drew of him, where I indended to add a half-body, but kinda never did. Some of you may also remember this then:

Sadly I didn't really save and WIPs along the way, soo... yeah...

I more or less just went ahead and shaded that portrait, also adding his tattoos in there n all that, before deleting the half-body sketch I made and adding this new one:

And... to be vhonest with you, that portrait is indeed kinda freaky. Those eyes are wayyy too big for my liking and the iris colour is far too bright to look natural. But it also is sort of interesting to see how my artstyle changed since then, even though it's mostly just minimal changed and the switch to cell-shading.

Either way, I then continued on with the lineart, having fun with getting all the clothing details in there and making the outfit look as awesome as I initially intended!

Expression wise, I wanted to go with a smug, confident, maybe flirtatious look... it looks a lot weirder in the lineart, than it did in the final piece, trust me aejger
The pose in itself was supposed to underline that expression, since... yeah Alagion is the type of dude to be confident, badass, self-loving and believing in himself!

Sadly I have no other WIP for yall soo...

I continued with the lineart, getting his hands in there, also putting his slightly demolished hand with only three fingers in the fokus. I had quite a hard time figuring out how the shoulder plates were supposed to work, since I totally didn't pay attention to those in the original design, sort of fixing the problem by finding out that the shoulder twists backwards, when lifting your arm in the manner I intended.
Sadly the one arm ended up hella stiff and straight forward, stealing most of the dynamic in the pose away T-T

Flat colours were about as straight forward as you'd presume them to be. Shading as well. THe funnest part here was though, to try and match the shading with the shading I did on the portrait before, since the whole thing would otherwise look unharmonious n all that.

Overall I am insanely happy, that I came back to this and finished this up. Alagion is such a sweetheart and I desperately should draw him more often, especially since his design is by far one of my favourites.
It also was nice to finally have this thing completed in front of me! The presentation in the background is absolutely crap, and I should've done better, as it just distracts from the main subject with the stark contrast and sharp shapes leading the eye away from the canvas, but other than that, I really like the final result.

Anyways, since I am indeed writing this chapter in August (dkglhaer timing folks idsjgnr) I don't really have all that much more to say... so, feel loved kids!
