"yes, there's a chance

that i've fallen quite hard over you."

jeon jungkook and kim taehyung never kissed.

instead of locking plump lips until the end of eternity — no matter how much they wanted to — the barista and his customer ended up spending the rest of the night with popcorns and half a season of black mirror. though jungkook was laughing the entire time, his doe eyes crinkled whenever taehyung used his body for shield (because he was too scared to watch it, regardless of the series being labeled science fiction), the younger never minded.

they were happy, they were there, they were together. and that was the only thing that mattered.

"jungkook-ah," taehyung snuggled closer under the blanket, eyes drooping though he wasn't planning to sleep.

"hmm?"

"what would happen . . ." he trailed off slowly, scared to say something out of context. "if i never met you? what would happen if i didn't stop by jeon's coffee, or if it was currently hoseok-hyung's shift?"

letting go of their tangled legs, jungkook eyed taehyung worriedly and asked back, "hyung, why would you even think about something like that?"

"just."

the younger didn't know what to say. both men knew that they were bound to cross paths, and that all those what ifs the older kept blabbering about were completely irrelevant. but then, as if the words rolled themselves out of his tongue, jungkook opened his mouth and spoke the best line of the century.

"then i guess we'll meet in a different way," he softly caressed taehyung's head, subconsciously engulfing his customer in a bone-crushing hug. "if you didn't come to me, then i'd be the one to come to you. as simple as that."

today was a brand new day.

jeon jungkook loved waking up next to kim taehyung — more than anything in the world. for the first time in forever, he woke up on the right side of the right bed. the way he lent his most comfortable pyjamas, long legs tangled, arms draped around each other and the phrase good morning being exchanged too many times to count. it was such a beautiful sight that jungkook wished it would last forever.

but, of course, taehyung had to go home and jungkook had to opened his shop. he wanted to ask him to say, to have lazy conversations and warm breakfast together, but it wasn't how things worked. he knew that well enough.

until this very moment,

kim taehyung still preferred to remain a mystery.

"good morning, jungkook-ie!" a loud yell echoed through the shop, signalling that hoseok had arrived to start his shift. when he finally made his way in front of the counter, with a very blank jungkook wiping a very wet mug, he decided to reenact the grand entrance. "kook? jungkook? jeon jungkook? . . . earth to jungkook!"

it was a miracle that jungkook didn't drop the cup. "o-oh?"

placing his hands on top of his waist, hoseok wiggled his brows and grinned, "is everything alright with you?"

"y-yeah, i'm okay."

"if you're really okay-" he made a mocking quotation mark with his hands. "then you wouldn't be stuttering like you just did. now, spill the beans, jeon jungkook."

and so he did. every single thing that happened from their first encounter to the night before.

how it was the first time jungkook felt butterflies over a significant other — with most men and women he had been with were nothing but flings and puppy loves — and didn't regret any second of it, and how taehyung spilled his worries over his various what if scenarios. and hoseok was there to listen, though he might not be the most experienced when it came to this field.

it was obvious that jeon jungkook was in love. as ridiculous and and unrealistic as it sounded, considering that the only thing the boy knew about his crush was his name, favourite book, favourite spot and favourite drink — no, not even his numbers! — not once that he did mind. nothing else mattered when taehyung's presence himself already drew jungkook in, for the caramel macchiato enthusiast had turned his world of black and white into a range of colours.

but something got in the way.

the only thing that jungkook feared the most, happened.

because as the days went by, with more tuesdays and fridays coming around, kim taehyung never stopped by jeon's cafe again.
