With his eyes

He spoke to me

"Why are you so happy?"

He said simply

"I don't know"

I told him back

As I smiled

We made eye contact

Behind his eyes

I saw beyond his lies

He was broken and soulless

Like a ghost, he felt hopeless

I put a hand on his shoulder

He put a hand on my arm

I pulled him into an embrace

To show him who I am

When we pulled apart

His eyes spoke again

"Thank you" they said

And suddenly he came to life

He smiled at me

For the first time in ages

Nobody had seen him smile

For a long while

He threw his arms around me

And with a gentle smile

He caressed my cheek

And stared for a while

"You're beautiful

Inside and out

Thank you

For taking away my doubt"

So with a smile

I wrapped my arms around him

We smiled at each other

While the lights were dim

We got real close

And held each other tight

Knowing we could live

Without any fright
