Burning.

As we leave from my mum's room, the desk witch comes to us.

"Kyle is ready for visitors," she says.

She gives us the slip.

"It reads fourth floor," I say.

"Don't worry, he isn't going to stay forever. We just have thought of the possibility of, maybe permanent, effects. It's nothing serious enough to remain forever," the witch says.

I nod and run up one more staircase, Kenny and Stan behind me, although Kenny catches me fairly quickly.

"Okay. Where?" He asks.

I turn and go in, almost the first bed has Kyle, staring ahead at a wall.

"Oh shit," Kenny whispers.

I look at Kyle's eyes. They're far lighter... can't be.

"Kyle?" I ask.

He jumps and faces us.

"Hey," he says.

"Your eyes," Stan says, catching up behind us.

"Yeah, they said something happened to them. For one, you're all incredibly blurry," he says.

"Are we getting harder to see?" Kenny asks.

"No! I'm not going blind. I just... everything is blurry," Kyle says.

He blinks a couple of times.

"Is it curable?" I ask.

"According to them, no. I'm going to need glasses," he says

"You can't cure bad sight?" Stan asks.

"No, it's not that," Kyle answers.

He sighs.

"Dark magic, some rare times, can be powerful enough to take away eyesight, even completely in ever rarer cases. It's pretty rare for dark magic to be curable," Kyle says.

I nod.

"Anything else than sight?" Kenny asks.

"I feel like I'm burning alive," Kyle says.

"You're not seeing fire... right? Not hallucinating?" Stan asks.

"Do you honestly think that if I saw fire I wouldn't be fucking scared and trying to get away from it? No, I'm not hallucinating," Kyle says.

"What happened?" I ask.

"It was really weird. I went into his office, like you said. He had some time spell on it or something. But it was really fucking slow. You know like the frogs that, if the heat rises gradually, don't ever notice it rising before they're dead? Yeah. It started to feel like burning and at first, I just looked around the place. There was a paper with some pretty clear ancient ancient runes and their translations. I read them through, they weren't really helpful, it was just some old shit, like, a prophecy or something, I don't believe in those. Yeah. When it was over, the burning became way too much but the door wouldn't open. So, like a logical person, I jumped the fuck out of the window, obviously with a spell to soften the blow. I tried getting anywhere but I couldn't get a few steps further. Thankfully, the healer came and when I announced it burned me, he started taking me somewhere, I blacked out around that point of it," Kyle says.

"What kind of prophesy?" Kenny asks.

"I don't really remember... something amongst the lines of, 'They, from the two different the evil can't stand, will embrace the darkness, defeat the evil and start the new world order.' There were other parts, a lot of them... but they seemed unclear as some part had a simple question mark on them and then a continuing," Kyle says.

Kenny looks like his head is overworking.

"Didn't we establish you were in danger?" Kenny asks.

"Yeah?" Kyle asks.

"'From the two different the evil hates' fits you. Squib and blood traitor," Kenny says.

"By that logic, Wendy fits too," Stan says.

"How come?" I ask.

"Your dad is muggleborn. Is he not?" Stan asks.

"Yes but my mum is pure," I say.

"Who married a muggleborn," Stan states.

"Oh yeah, I fit just as much as Kyle," I say.

"It was they," Stan says.

"I'm fairly certain it's one person. There were lines that can only be one person," Kyle says.

"If Kyle is so hated by them... wouldn't he make more sense than the rest of us?" I ask.

"We could argue Kenny's hated as well, as well as me," Stan says.

"Why are we pointing at us?" Kyle asks.

"Because we have been constantly associated with these runes," Stan says.

"I mean, I guess," I say.

"But then again, if we go at this again, Stan is pretty surely on the list as well," Kenny says.

"I'm muggleborn, it says two different," Stan says.

"But it says from two different. Nothing about those two being the ones birthing you. If we go with that logic, we can look back more than a thousand years in case something there was enraging," Kenny says.

Kyle sighs and falls back on the bed.

"Prophecies don't normally come to be, guys. It's actually rare for them to," Kyle says.

I nod.

"I know, I know. But I think it's good to think of the what if. I mean, could be Kenny," Stan says, with a laugh.

"Actually him and Wendy are far more likely than you. 'Embrace the darkness'. Slytherin is the stereotypically dark house and if Wendy were to embrace that, she'd fit really well. I don't know, Kenny seems like the guy to have a dark side, considering our theory is that his magic comes from a curse, most likely a dark one," Kyle says.

"Don't take yourself out of the game," Stan says.

"Let's hear this then," Kyle says.

"You're apart of the one of the darkest, most old families of wizards. If you came to embrace your roots," Stan says.

"So Stan's the only one out?" I ask.

"I could imagine that he has a dark side," Kenny says.

Stan just waves his tie.

"We know. But even Hufflepuffs have dark sides, obviously. Nobody is perfect enough to not have one," Kyle says.

"We have to get back to Hogwarts... sorry," I say.

"Don't worry about me. I'm fairly certain-," Kyle starts.

"Here you go," a healer says.

She gives him the glasses. Kyle puts them on.

"See anything?" She asks.

"Yup," he says.

"Read these letters," she says.

She puts a board so far away even I can't see the letters.

"M-K-T-F-D-E?" Kyle asks.

"Perfect! You should be okay by Monday!" The healer states.

So all of us say goodbye to Kyle and go away to the first floor and then go, with the school healer, to get to the school.
