"HAHAHAHAHA! You gotta be kidding, who would have a national day for HAIR?"

"It's not a joke Foster, I swear. And I'm hurt you could ever think something this important and magnificent is a joke!"

"What, so you're telling me that this "national hair day" is an actual thing?"

"Yes! I marked it on my calendar! I celebrate it every year with Fitz!"

Sophie stared at Keefe skeptically, and raised an eyebrow as she stared at his calendar, which indeed, did have National Hair Day marked in a bright red color, with many circles and arrows pointing at the "special" day.

"So let's say I believe you, which I don't!" Sophie said after seeing Keefe get all excited about her believing in his "Hair Day". "What would you even do on a hair day? Sit in front of a mirror all day and ogle your appearance?"

"Well..." Keefe said, a guilty expression suddenly on his face.

Sophie face-palmed. "You gotta be kidding me."

"Fitz does it too!" he said defensively.

"Fitz doesn't even care that much about his hair-"

The door swung open and Fitz rushed in, many full bags in his hands, his usually calm face with a childish grin on it.

"Keefe! Keefe! I just got down to Atlantis and I've ransacked the hair product store, look here!" he held up a small, baby-blue colored bottle and whispered, "48 hour hair spray! They were almost all sold out, so I grabbed the last ten and made a run for it! I got so many good products this is gonna be the best hair day yet-"

He noticed Sophie, who was standing in the corner, gawking at Fitz's behavior, and Fitz immediately shut up and stared at the ground sheepishly, a light blush on his cheeks.

"Believe in it now?" Keefe asked Sophie, the signature smirk on his face. "And no need to be ashamed Fitzypoo, I'm sure that Foster doesn't think any less of you."

"Well then," Sophie said, still in a little bit of shock after seeing Fitz act the way he did, freaking over hair like Keefe usually did. "I'm gonna go hang out with Dex, seeing as you guys obviously have a," she waved her hand around in their general area, "tradition or whatever this is. And Dex is sensible enough to know that a National Hair Day is pointless and-"

"Oh, about that...Dex is gonna be here soon." Fitz said, who seemed to have recovered slightly from his embarrassment. "He's always helps us with our hair-styling portion of the day.

Just then, the doorbell rang one hundred floors below and they heard the front door opening and closing, a lot of grunting and gagging and then Dex was there, looking sick from the vortinator, holding up bags of elixirs. He dumped them all on one of the many styling stations Keefe had set up in a corner of his room, and sighed, wiping sweat from his brow.

"I brought them all the way from Rimeshire!" he said, sounding proud of himself. "I've got the normal ones," he gestured toward a small pile, "and the funky ones!" he gestured to a much bigger pile.

"Nice one Dex!" Keefe said, examining a bottle of green glop. "You know... this one reminds me of the Great Gulon Incident..."

"TELL ME!" Sophie said, as the doorbell rang again. Keefe winked at her before going to open the door to a huffing and puffing Biana, who had somehow managed to lug a whole wooden wardrobe all the way from Everglen to Keefe's room, and by the way she was sweating, it didn't seem like it was empty.

"Maybe later," Keefe said to Sophie's displeasure.

"But- but- I've been waiting since forever to hear about it, you can't do this!!!!"

Biana glared at Fitz. "You seriously didn't even wait to help me! It was tiring lugging this giant thing all the way here, and you could have helped but noooo you "had" to go to Atlantis right away to get hair products! Just leave your little sister to do all the work, why don't ya!?"

"You're part of this whole thing too?!" Sophie exclaimed, pointing at Biana in shock. "I-I thought you would be the one to talk them out of this!"

Biana grinned at her best friend. "Well, hair is a girl's best friend, you gotta take care of it! So, yes, I celebrate National Hair Day too. I supply the wardrobes and clothing, since when you style your hair, you gotta find a new outfit that matches!"

Sophie groaned. "I was about to say, I'm gonna hang out with Linh and Tam, but then I remembered the whole Tam and his bangs thing, so I assume they're gonna be here too?"

"Unfortunately," Keefe said, rolling his eyes at the mention of Tam. "Bangs Boy keeps track of National Hair Day too, and Biana heard, so she had to invite him and Linh around to celebrate with us."

"Why wouldn't I?!" Biana asked, but Sophie noticed a slight blush on her friend's cheeks.

Suddenly, there were a few hard knocks at the door, and Dex rushed up and opened it. It wasn't Tam and Linh, much to Sophie's surprise, but Marella, who was pushing a giant boombox in the room with her hands.

"Am I the last one?" she asked, looking around.

"Why do we need a boombox?" Fitz asked, staring down at the giant thing at her feet. "You were supposed to bring food!"

Marella was untangling her messed up hair and didn't look up from it as she answered Fitz's question. "Linh's bringing the food, so I thought I'd bring music."

"Great idea!" Dex said, and immediately hijacked the speaker system from her and began to tinker around with it.

"Hey! That's mine! Watch what you're doing with it!" Marella exclaimed as she rushed over to where Dex was.

Keefe sidled up to Sophie. "Still don't believe in it?" he asked, a smirk on his face. He knew he had won.

Sophie let out a puff of air. "Sure, sure it's a thing, but I don't see anything that you can do on this day that's actually fun."

"Challenge accepted Foster! Just you wait, you'll soon find this is the best holiday ever! I'll even bet on it!"

"What are we betting?"

Keefe thought for a moment. "Hmmm, how about if I win you have to give me a kiss like you did Fitz-"

"KEEFE!"

"Just joking Foster. How about, losers gotta shovel Glitterbutts's alicorn poop while winner gets to take her for a ride?"

"Deal."

"Ok then!" Keefe clapped his hands and everybody turned to him. "Let Hair Day commence-!"

"Wait!!!" the door slammed open and Linh, who looked like she was in a huge rush, ran in with a covered tray that Sophie presumed to be filled with food. Tam followed her in, glancing around Keefe's massive three story bedroom. "Are we late?"

"No, we were just about to get started," Biana replied from behind her massive wardrobe.

Linh gave a relieved sigh. "Thank gods we weren't, Tam's been looking forward to getting a real National Hair Day celebration since forever! He's been so excited to get here-"

"No I wasn't!" Tam said, looking embarrassed.

"Ooooo, does Bangs Boy wanna hang out with me??  Does he wuv us?" Keefe asked mockingly, fluttering his eyelashes.

"Shut up Sencen." Tam shot back. "Just hurry up and start, I have other things to do-"

"No you don't?" Linh said, confused, turning to Tam.

With a smirk, Keefe stood on top of his bed. "Let the Hair Day commence! Marella, hit the music!"

Marella slapped her speakers.

"Not like that!-" Fitz said, annoyed, until suddenly, loud, energetic music sounded from the speakers. Marella shot Fitz a 'ha ha' look.

Fitz opened his bag full of hair products, and Tam, Keefe and Biana rushed over quickly, before the four them began sorting through the products in a rough manner.

"Stop stealing that!"
"I KNOW you pocketed one of those for yourself Fitz that's not fair!"
"GIMME THAT CONDITIONER NOWWW!"
"MOVE ASIDE!"
"I get FIRST pick remember?!"
"Well, as the host I REVOKE your first pick!"
"That is SO NOT FAIR!"
"GIMME THAT CONDITIONER!"
"BANGS BOY LET GO OF IT!"
"I SAW IT FIRST SENCEN!"
"NO I DID!"
"I DID!"
"I DID!"

Linh, who had been serving her mallowmelts to people noticed the fighting and quickly rushed over to them. "Tam! Biana! Keefe! Fitz! Stop!"

Sophie watched the scene from a corner, grinning to herself as she watched her friends argue over hair products, when she felt something cold and slimy slide down her face. She swiped a bit of it onto her finger, and it was green and slimy. She turned around and saw Dex, holding an empty bottle, a triumphant grin on his face.

"You just got pranked!" he said, as Sophie felt her hair rising up into a jagged neon-green Mohawk, completed with darker green fringe that fell around her head. "Marella, play the 'You Just got Pranked' Playlist!"

Marella hit the speakers again, and the music changed into loud, punk-ish music that got everyone's attention.

"Now that you've finally sorted them," Dex said, glaring at the four of them, "We can finally do the insane hair part! Sophie's already got hers." he gestured toward Sophie, and Keefe began to laugh at her ridiculous hair-do.

They were all settled into chairs as Dex mixed and matched elixirs, pouring them into the victim's hair, occasionally making them drink something. Sophie quite enjoyed the process, watching from the sidelines. With the music, it reminded her of one of those makeover scenes in your typical teen movie, but instead of looking better, her friends turned out looking worse.

Tam's bangs were now neon pink, with purple and blue edges, like the mane of a unicorn. His hair was also missing chunks of it on the top, so it looked like he was partially bald.

Fitz's hair was completely gone, except for a tall, thick, brown strand coming out of the middle of his head that shot up towards the ceiling like a tree.

Linh's hair was an unnatural bright yellow, and it kinda reminded Sophie of a minion, and portions of it stuck out of her head like spikes.

Biana's hair had grown bangs so long over her face that you couldn't see her eyes, or nose. The rest of her hair was white, with a texture that looked like it resembled glue.

Keefe's hair, however, had the grand hoorah, with multicolored, curly strands that looked like slinkys sprouting out of his head, and dark green flower shaped patches of hair over his otherwise bald head. Keefe didn't seem that bothered by this, and instead walked over to Sophie, laughing his head off at Tam.

"Hey look Foster! We're matching!" he said, pointing at their green hair.

"Not really," Sophie replied, gesturing at his slinkys.

"Having fun yet?" Keefe asked, with a grin. He could tell that she was.

Sophie shook her head and crossed her arms defiantly, but Keefe could tell by her emotions that she was having a great time.

"MY TURN!" Biana shouted, ushering them towards another set of hair styling booths. Now, I'm gonna make your hair look fabulous!"

"We forgot about the group photo!" Keefe said, holding up a camera, and setting it on a tri-pod. "Everyone get in!"

The group came together and smiled, and when the camera flashed, Sophie sighed.  Keefe looked at her expectantly...

"I guess I do enjoy National Hair Day, and it's not pointless after all."

Keefe smirked, and threw an arm around her. "I knew you'd come around Foster!"

The rest of the day flew by in a blur. Sophie snacked on tons of Linh's homemade treats as Biana combed and pampered her hair in one of the stations, first turning it back to normal with many hair products, and then twisting her usually flat and boring hair into an elaborate knot, threading it with golden flowers and small crystal beads. Then, she was whisked away to the wardrobe station, where Biana situated her into a short red dress, with a golden belt and a silver buckle to match her hair. During all of this time, Marella's speakers were constantly blasting different songs out, making the entire thing seem like a glow-up music video.

She stood in front of the camera with all her friends, who now looked like they were all attending a red carpet event, and smiled as it took another picture. Keefe examined the photo, and apparently pleased with it, hung it up on a bulletin board of photos Sophie hadn't noticed before.

It showed many National Hair Day celebrations in the past, and although this was the first one with Sophie, Tam and Linh, the rest of them were in every one. Each year had a insane hair-do photo and a glammed up one.

Some photos from year's past caught Sophie's eye. There was one where there were only Keefe, Fitz and Biana in the picture, in which they were still all very tiny and Biana was eyeing Keefe, her face flushed pink.

Another one showed Marella in the photos too, and it looked like the photo was taken mid-natural disaster, as it was all blurry. Sophie could just make out Marella tripping over her dress in the photo, arms splayed out as Biana looked on with a horrified face.

Keefe tacked the new photos up next to last year's, (where the theme had apparently been yellow) and stepped back, admiring them.

"What do you think Foster?"

"They're perfect."

A few days later....

"I never realized how much Silveny poops every day." Sophie remarked as she stared up at Keefe in the sky on her, doing loop-de-loops and twirls.

"SERVES YOU RIGHT FOR NOT BELIEVING IN THE POWER OF HAIR!" Keefe yelled down as Silveny did a very impressive trick that left Keefe screaming. Sophie laughed as they descended, Silveny looking pleased, Keefe looking like he was going to throw up.

"Foster, help me!" he said, looking dizzy, before collapsing into the poop.

Sophie laughed so hard that Grady came outside, and surveyed the situation. He didn't even look surprised anymore.
