     CASSIA ELSHER'S junior year was spent mingling with East High royalty; those who prided themselves on their cruelty and leered down at their inferiors. Cassia was once their inferior, but after years, she had finally wormed her way into their clique. And all to merely speak to one person, or to just be in their presence. That person being . . .

     Water polo captain, socially savvy senior, high school heartthrob  —  EJ Caswell. 

     Being the naïve, hopeless romantic she was, Cassia had assured herself that EJ would surely fall for her. She was latched to him like a leech for two months, and his smile hushed her fears, his smirk a sedative, subduing her into submission. Vowing to contact her over the summer whilst at theatre camp, EJ had left Cassia giddy with infatuation and drunk with confidence.

     And when he returned, it was with her.

     Nini Salazar  —  Roberts, the ukulele girl. Nini, in EJ's arms, both of them seeming head over heels. A lot of things had changed over the summer.

     Friendless and brokenhearted, Cassia's optimism had been all but depleted. So when a skater boy she had never once spoken to in her life presented her with a proposition that would benefit them both in the field of romance . . .

     How could she say no?
