"Hiccup, you're more ruthless than you realise. I know you will defeat Krogan and Johann." Viggo said, while holding onto Hiccup's hand pulling him a little closer to him. He let go and Hiccup looked down at the Maces and Talons game piece in his hand. He gazed up at Viggo confused. Viggo stared into Hiccup's green eyes one last then grabbed him by the shoulder, bringing his lips to Hiccup's. Hiccup stood frozen, not pulling away. Viggo stepped back, lighting up his sword and walked towards the Hunters. Hiccup watched Viggo walk away, bringing his hand up to touch his lips.

That was the last time Hiccup saw Viggo.

Hiccup stood at the entrance of the cave, watching the flames slowly disappear. He was gone. After all these months and months of battling this man, working out his plans and playing his game, it was over. The game was over. Hiccup tried to keep his emotions in check, not wanting to break down in front of the Dragon Hunters or the twins. He looked down at the game piece in his hand.

When Viggo held Hiccup's hand and gave him the Maces and Talons piece, he felt something. A spark. Something that has wanted to be shared for a while but never got the opportunity. Twiddling it in his hand and he felt the need to go back to the campsite like Viggo might have left something that only Hiccup could find. This couldn't be over. Not yet. He pulled himself together even if it was only for a few hours and got onto Toothless.

"Ruff! Tuff! Let's go" Hiccup yelled. He heard the twins get themselves together and they followed behind Hiccup. For once, Hiccup was glad to have the twins with him to help him get out of this mess even though it didn't go according to plan. The twins can be sneaky when they have to be and they did their job; protect and defend Hiccup.

Hiccup and Toothless landed on the dirt with the twins bickering about their world record behind them. They weren't paying close attention to what Hiccup was doing but they still landed and waited. Toothless stayed where he was while Hiccup searched the abandoned area. He found nothing. He let out a breath when a piece of paper caught his attention. He went over to where Viggo had slept that night and he picked it up. He opened it and he saw the letter was addressed to him.

Hiccup
You were a worthy adversary.
I felt like I was waiting for something that wasn't going to happen.
I never seized the moment.
Goodbye, my dear

Hiccup could feel tears fall down his face. All this time and this is how he tells him. A letter written by a dead man and a final kiss. If he didn't sacrifice himself he never would have told him. Hiccup may not have returned the feelings but it still hurt to read a letter full of truth. That's what the spark was. Viggo's feelings for the Dragon Rider. The want of confessing and the need to feel something towards him. Something other than hate and animosity.

The twins came up behind Hiccup and he could feel them trying to read the letter. Tuffnut's breath blowing over his ear.
"What is this H? Some sort of last taunt?" Hiccup didn't respond but shook his head in answer. The letter was written in Latin, a language used by tribes and taught to only a select few. It was part of Hiccup's training as the heir of Berk to learn a multitude of languages.

Hiccup grabbed some charcoal from the remains of the fire and wrote 7 simple words. A reply to Viggo's letter. He looked at the page and folded it up in half. Hiccup walked over to a tree and peeled off a piece of bark. He placed the 2 letters on the makeshift boat and walked to the river not far from Toothless. Hiccup grabbed his sword, picked up one of the letters and set it on fire. He stared at the burning note and placed it back on the bark. He pushed the letter down the river watching it burn. When it sank to the bottom, Hiccup fell to his knees and began sobbing. The feelings finally hit him. Viggo was gone.

The twins only watched Hiccup sit by the river bank not wanting to interrupt him. They're never seen their leader break down like this. Tuffnut walked over to Hiccup and placed a hand on his shoulder. They sat in silence for a few moments until Hiccup got himself together and he got up from the floor. Hiccup and the twins got onto their dragons and made their way back to the edge.

After talking with the gang and telling them everything he found out about the Johann and the Hunters, Hiccup went to his hut and Astrid followed close behind. He walked over to the Maces and Talons board and placed the piece Viggo gave him on the board.

"It's weird having Viggo gone. I think it's almost like..." Astrid said, trailing off what she was about to say.
"I get it. We learned a lot from him" Hiccup replied. Astrid placed a hand on his shoulder and left the hut.
Hiccup put the lid on top of the game board and whispered to himself the words on the letter.
"I wish you did seize the moment"
