14 December 1699

Lena and Brochan arrived at the other side of the river, dusk and had started their way to mount bas. Lena had picked up the letter that Lucifer had left on the bank of the river, however had not opened it yet.

As they got closer to the base of Mount Bas a unsettling feeling of being watched came over Lena and Brochan as the road up a narrow path heading towards the foot of mount bas. Lena opens the letter making sure her brother did not notice. Then she read the letter.

Dear Princess

If you're heading north, then I will tell all the black dogs not to attack you or your brother. You will find many things up north, but none more interesting than who your mother is and what you really are. If you want to know head to the beach just north of the castle there is a cave to the west which holds the secret you are looking for. I'll meet you there in three days at nightfall.

Until then I will watch over you

Your humble servant

Lucifer

Lena did not understand what Lucifer was going on about, but she had noticed that the creature of the dark forest that chose to live near her uncle Bearnard were acting weird to her when she was there. One blue cap had bowed and called her "your majesty" she was confused then and was more confused now. She was not a princess or was she?

She hides the letter in her bag so that her brother could not find it. They had just started going up mount bas when she had finished reading the letter. Lena saw glowing red eyes of black dogs in the trees, but they didn't come out and attack like Lucifer had said, however, Lena could not fully trust Lucifer something was telling her not to trust him in her gut and she knew if her brother, father or uncles found out about that she had talked to or been near a black dog they would freak out and make sure that she was followed everywhere she went. Which she would hate and so she kept it to herself hoping and praying they would not find out.
