Chapter 37: Maria

Rachel and Terri saw my text, Terri asked if she wanted a ride there but I turned the offer down. With words of encouragement they both left. I was contemplating but it had to be done if he wanted to break up or not. I heard the front door open, revealing Aaron as he came in. Ignoring his presence I stood up and began heading out but he blocked my way.

"Where are you going, young lady?" he questioned.

"None of your damn business," I said sharply.

"To go see your boytoy?"

"Get the hell out of my way, Aaron."

"You're so cute." He pinched my cheeks; the pads of his fingers were rough. I swatted his hand away.

"Where's Jason?" I frowned, rubbing my cheek. The door opening again, pushing Aaron out of the way as my brother entered.

"What's going on?" he questioned, raising his eyebrows.

"Jason, can I borrow your car?" I asked, ignoring his question.

"Why?"

"It's for something."

"What is that something?"

"Jason." I whined to him, giving him a pouty look.

"She's going to see Scott," Aaron chimed in, I glared at his direction, he grinned in innocence. I so want to slap him right now.

"No one drives my car so I'll take you."

"Thank you," I breathed out and followed. Aaron muttered behind me, but I ignored him again. Getting in the car, I slammed the door in frustration but got a rant from Jason to be careful of his baby. I rolled my eyes, directing him where to go.

"Everything good with you and Scott?" he asked as he put his key in the ignition.

"It's complicated," I answered.

I arrived at the spot. Scott sat on the picnic table and staring at the sky. I thanked Jason, saying I will text him if I need anything. Getting out of the car, I walked slowly behind not to break his thoughts. Biting my lip, I had no idea what to expect. Tapping his shoulder once, he turned to me abruptly and I smiled tightly. He got up to give me a bone crushing hug, whispering "I'm sorry" in my ear. I didn't want him to let go so I squeezed tighter too. "I can't stand not talking to you," he said after a little silence between us, still embracing each other.

"Then why didn't you?" I asked lowly.

"I didn't know what else to say. I guess I got scared." He let go but our foreheads lingered.

"The Scott Huntsman scared? Wow I'm shocked," I mocked him and he laughed, pushing me lightly.

"You know what I mean. I've never said that to anyone, only family."

"Not even Julie, before you guys had sex?" He just shook his head and looked down. I picked his chin up so our eyes could meet.

"You don't have to say it because I did. Tyler said it before I did. I thought it was what a boyfriend would like."

"I do have deep feelings for you, maybe it is but I don't know yet," I smiled but it was full of uncertainty.

High school was not forever, people change and move on. Scott cuts off my thoughts by kissing me lightly on the lips, more intimately than passionate, holding me closer into his chest our lips moving in sync.
