Victoria Grace "Tory" Brennan interviews Chance A. Claybourne about his Viral abilities and age finds out that he was on the beach that Cooper, Tory's pet wolfdog's, paw was injured.  

Prologue

A group of Virals, called "The Trinity" are about to attack "The Four", Tory's group.  

Part One: Challenge

Chapter 1

Ella Francis and Tory play a soccer match against the James Island Soccer team at Bolton Preparatory Academy. Tory "flares" during it and Hiram Stolowitski, Shelton Devers, and Benjamin Blue help her. Bolton Prep wins the game.  

Chapter 2

The boys chastise Tory for "flaring" and go to Candela Pharmaceuticals to talk to Chance. When they find Chance's office, he tells them about the tests and that three wolf heads were painted over a statue of his ancestor "Milton Ignatius Claybourne".  

Chapter 3

The statue was painted red, black, and white with the words "TRAITOR" on it. Chance pins the act on Will Speckman, a friend of his and Tory says they'll look into the vandalism later.  

Chapter 4

Tory gets home to her father Christoper "Kit" Howard and future step-mother Whitney Rose DuBois and dinner is served. Whitney tells Tory that Tory is in Whitney's Magnolia Society Group, since she pushed Tory to go to cotillions. Then a news report about vandalism at Fort Sumter by which looks like the same vandals that broke into Chance's house. The vandals left three wolf heads chiseled in brick painted red, white, and black with the words "OneTerritory. One Pack." above it. Tory, Ben, Shelton, Hi, and Chance decide to investigate.

Interview

Hannah Wythe is interviewed about Tory and she accuses the scientists of being her cronies.  

Chapter 5

Tory and the others meet in the hidden cave and plant boat to Fort Sumter by Sewee, Ben's Boston Whaler and investigate the crime scene.  

Chapter 6

As soon as Tory and the others get to Fort Sumter, they find the crime scene and Tory says that all the Virals are at war and Charleston, South Carolina is now a war zone.  

Chapter 7

Tory determines that the vandals wanted Virals to find it and Tory, Ben, Hi, Shelton, and Cooper "flare" and see a threatening message ("We see you. We know you.") etched into the stone with a boat carving next to it. They figure out there are six flags near Fort Sumter and find a red flag with "A hole had been cut into one corner to attack it to the flagpole. On its face was a stylized triangle - three familiar wolf heads, equidistantly spaced, connected by straight black lines. Two short sentences ran across the top: Can you find us? Come out and play. Below the triangle were two additional words in all caps: THE TRINITY." Then, a helicopter chases the six away to Morris Island.  

Part Two: Chase

Interview

Anthony Goodwin/"The Gamemaster" is interviewed about his encounter with Tory's band during Hurricane Katelyn in "Code".  

Chapter 8

Outside Bolton Prep, Tory, Shelton, and Hi talk about The Trinity before going inside.

At lunch, Ella, Tory, Shelton, and Hi eat lunch and Jason Taylor and Madison Dunkle come over and say that some guys in black suits are asking questions about Virals.

The three determine Clay is hiding something and Tory decides to talk to him.

Chapter 9

Chance and Tory meet at Colonial Lake and Tory accuses Chance of working with the Trinity. He says he isn't affiliated with them and they plan to find Will Speckman.

Chapter 10

Tory, Shelton, Hi, Ben, and Chance go to Charleston University and try to find Will's roommate, Cole Gordon. They do and interrogate him and they find that one guy is lying and that a student from Bolton Prep was there.

Chapter 11

Ashley Bodford was the Bolton Prep student at Charleston University and then soliders try to go after Tory, Ben, Hi, Shelton, and Chance, but the five escape and Ben drives them to Morris Island.

As Tory approaches her house, Kit comes over and tells her that LIRI has been robbed of the animal feeders and that the triangle-wolf symbol was painted on the walls

Chapter 12

Tory, Ben, Hi, Shelton, Chance, and Cooper go to Loggerhead Island and find that the island is out of whack since The Trinity appeared. They decide to let Chance lead them to Will Speckman on the island. They then find a lit-up tent and Chance leads them to it.

Chapter 13

Ben and Chance ransack the tent and fall into a hole. The tent was a trap. Then, The Trinity appear and Will Speckman is one of them. Buster and Polo and Whisper, Cooper's older brother and father and mother, then appear and attack Will and The Trinity. Whisper nearly kills Will, but Tory orders her not to. Then, the spy helicopters appear and the band runs.

Chapter 14

Ben and Tory run out of the forest to Sewee and they decide to go to Chile Beach/"Dead Cat Beach". The spy helicopters and a boar almost spot them and Ben and Tory hide on Sewee. Ben takes advantage of their hiding plan and kisses Tory. They then resume their search and find Hi, Shelton, Cooper, and Chance on Chile Beach.

Chapter 15

The band rides back to Morris Island and find that Tory's band's hideout is on fire. They plan to find The Trinity and attack them.

Chapter 16

Tory goes inside her house with Cooper and finds that Kit and Whitney are now engaged. Tory, enraged, yells at Whitney that she can't replace Colleen and storms upstairs to her room. Ben texts Tory.

Chapter 17

Tory thinks about how The Trinity destroyed the Virals HQ as Tom Blue pulls his boat Hugo into the docks.

Tory, Shelton, and Hi plan how to find out who The Trinity really are.

At Bolton, the bell rings and Tory begins to go to her class when she runs into Courtney Holt and Ashley Bodford. Ashley asks if Tory can hang out with them and Tory blurts "Yes". The two girls walk away and Tory sees Ashley and Jason Taylor together and figures that Madison and Chance can get Tory, Shelton, Hi, and Ben close to The Trinity. Tory goes to class.

Chapter 18

Tory, Shelton, Hi, and Ben go to Chance's office at Candela Pharmaceuticals and Chance tells them that the paint on the statue and bricks are the same and the flag is made out of military-style canvas. The Trinity stole the paint and the canvas from the same place. Tory figures out that "Chance hired Speckman. Speckman fished with Jason. All three played lacrosse together." Chance then tells the four that he'll now show them the DNA tests.

Interview

Dr. Michael P. Iglehart is interviewed about him giving money to Chance, how he knows Tory, Ben, Shelton, Hi, and how he has a rivalry with Kit.

Chapter 19

Chance leads the four to a hallway with multiple room and shows them they aren't human. They figure out that Parvovirus XPB-19 inserted the wolf DNA through trickery and it's confusing. Tory says that the Virals are not fully made yet.

Chapter 20

As Ben drives Tory, Shelton, and Hi to Morris Island, Tory tells him to stop the car and Ben does. Tory tells the others that they have to go to Cole Gordon's dorm to talk to him about The Trinity.

In Cole Gordon's dorm, the four find that Jordan, Cole's dorm neighbor, left because of a argument with a girl and then left Charleston University. Cole describes the girl Jordan was with "She had, like, nice hair. It was sorta... black? Or maybe brown. Not blonde, for sure. And she was kinda tall. But not really. Oh, and I think she wore a T-shirt. Could be wrong, though." Tory and the band leave.

The four talk about how Ashley, Jordan, Jason, and Will are connected to The Trinity and Jordan's sudden disappearance as they go back to Morris Island.

In her room, Tory meets up with the boys via FaceTime and they find that The Trinity are about to meet and that the sign on the flag is the symbol for "The USS Yorktown." ship. Tory and others determine it's their base and decide to raid it.

Chapter 21

Tory, Hi, Shelton, Ben, and Cooper go to "Patriots Point" (where the Yorktown is) on Sewee and Tory plans to get Chance over there to help them.

Chance gets there and Ben and Chance almost start fighting before Tory stops it. The six then "flare".

The band gets into the ship and Cooper is assigned guard duty. The hear voices on the second level and find Will Speckman in the room. The Trinity has trapped The Virals.

Chapter 22

Cole Gordon is part of The Trinity and he and Will refuse to tell who is the third Trinity member. They taunt The Virals and Will tells them that he found the bunker by hacking into Chance's files. Ben is enraged and Wil argues with Chance before revealing that he will blame Chance for everything. Cole and Will leave and Tory says that The Trinity wants The Virals to get caught. Chance and the others go after Will and Cole to escape.

Chapter 23

As the band escapes, Tory wonders who the third member is. Then, Cooper sends her a warning that people are coming. The band escapes before Cole and Will fight them. Tory can't find Cooper.

Chapter 24

Cooper sends Tory an image of men in black on a dock and the band has the escape or else be lab rats for the rest of their lives. Will escapes by ziplining a cable and the five do the same, except use rope and jump into the water below. They do that and escape successfully.

On Sewee, Tory figures out that Ella Francis is the third Trinity member.

Part Three: Chaos

A death report about Christopher Gerald Fletcher and Sally Denise Fletcher is written.

Chapter 25

During first period the next day, Tory and Ella encounter each other but Tory doesn't fight her yet.

Tory gets a text about some information Chance has. She tells the boys and she goes.

At his office, Chance tells Tory that he created an antidote to the supervirus and that he made the same supervirus, but with a few modifications. He also tells her the virus can kill her, the boys, himself, and The Trinity.

Chapter 26

Tory gets back to Bolton on time not to be considered late and she tells Shelton and Hi about the meeting.

Before lunch is over, Tory confronts Ella about her being Viral and Ella tells her that Will Speckman infected her and that she was trying to throw Tory off by having her suspect it was either Ashley or Jason that's Trinity and it worked. The bell then rings.

After school, Tory, Shelton, and Hi plan to talk to Chance about the virus.

Chapter 27

When Tory gets home, Kit talks about moving into downtown Charleston and Whitney stops him.

Chapter 28

Late at night, Tory gets a text from Hi about Ben knowing about the antidote and the plan.

Tory, Ben, Hi, and Shelton are driving to Claybourne Manor when they are chased by government officials.

Chapter 29

Chance leads Tory, Shelton, Hi, and Ben into his father's study and they talk about the virus and how Will infected Cole and Ella by making them ingest it. They also talk about the files before the power is cut out and government officials try to break into Claybourne Manor.

Chapter 30

Chance takes the files with him and the five escape out through a secret passage and jump into a koi pond to escape.

Chapter 31

Government officials chase Ben's car before giving up and going to their base, a "Department of Defense-Homeland Security" base, which the five find by following the car.

Chapter 32

Tory, Hi, Shelton, and Ben drop Chance off at Candela and Tory plans to stay with him for the night to make a trap for Will.

Chance makes the bait file and Tory finds out that Chance has had a crush on her for a very long time. Tory then falls asleep.

A report about Lucille W. Gable and Peter E. Gable fleeing to "a) Bali; b) Fiji; or c) New Zealand" and trying to locate them is written.

Chapter 33

Chance wakes Tory up and says her plan to lure Hacker Will Speckman worked.

Shelton and Hi meet Chance and Tory at a cafe on Folly Beach and begin to assemble the plan how to get rid of The Trinity.

Tory, Hi, Shelton, Ben, and Chance plan how to get rid of The Trinity.

Chapter 34

At Bolton, The Trinity fall for the plan that the serum is in Tory's locker. Shelton then uses a fire extingisher to blind them before The Trinity escape. Tory, Ben, Shelton, Hi, Cooper, and Chance chase them to the gymnasium, where Will demands that Chance had the files over to him.

Chapter 35

Tory, Ben, Shelton, Hi, Cooper, and Chance then fight The Trinity before Ella brutally injures Tory. Cooper wards off Ella.

Chapter 36

Chance and Ben tie The Trinity up and Tory tells the truth to Ella about Ella being Viral while Will demands her to not believe Tory. Ella believes Tory and attacks Will before Will beings to fight the seven (Cole Gordon is his ally) and his "flare" vanishes. Cole's "flare" vanishes too and Chance says that the bottles of water that Tory had that Shelton gave them was spiked with the Parvovirus XB-19 antidote.

Part Four: Culmination

Chapter 37

Ella and Tory become friends again as Will Speckman and Cole Gordon are set free as Chance allows the four to decide to stay Viral or not. Tory says no as if she did, she loses a connection to Cooper. Chance and Tory destroy the antidote.

Chapter 38

Chance plans to get The Virals to his office when government officials show up, corner them in the Bolton gym, and arrest them.

Chapter 39

Tory, Ben, Hi, Shelton, and Chance are put in the same car, while Coop (stunned and unconscious) is put into another car. The Trinity are also put into a separate car.

In the car, Chance forces The Virals to lose their powers by drinking the serum to save themselves.

Chapter 40

Tory, Cooper, Ben, Shelton, Hi, and Chance are lead into the Department of Defense building.

Tory wakes up in a hospital gown and is questioned by a soldier about being Viral. They take some of her blood for a test.

Chapter 41

Tory's blood test comes back negative for Viral and Dr. Keegan (the doctor that questioned Tory) believes The Virals and Chance are lying. Dr. Keegan leaves Tory's room and the one soldier that remains tells Tory to keep the Operation a secret.

Chapter 42

Tory, Shelton, Hi, Ben, Chance, and Cooper wake up in the forest after being knocked out a regroup. They find The Trinity and Will and Cole leave. Ella stays with the band.

Chapter 43

Tory is in her bedroom, thinking about how she and Ella get to Tory's house on Morris Island. In the middle of the night, Tory, Ella, Hi, Shelton, Ben, Cooper, and Chance meet outside the houses. Chance tells them the real reason Parvovirus-XB19 infected The Virals was because the strain was overheated and that the serum removes Viral effects, not the Parvovirus. Ben and Chance begin to fight and, in that moment, Tory chooses Benjamin Blue as her boyfriend and Chance and Ella go back to downtown Charleston.

A report about some agents getting removed from the mission is written.

Epilogue

Tory gets ready for school and reflects on how Ben is her boyfriend. Cooper howls outside and Tory "flares", her eyes turning distinct blue.
