Year 1 Chapter 6 - A Not-So-Secret Admirer

Keen looked at me and smirked as I glared at him. He was so annoying. Anyways, Professor Flitwick was teaching us Wingardium Leviosa. Which I already knew. Keen apparently didn't know that, so he tried to show off by doing it to a feather. The feather stayed in the air for three seconds, then came back down. I smirked as I saw his embarrassed face. Now it was my turn. After Professor Flickswitch stopped explaining the charm, I knew it was time. Keen has a heavy binder that follows him everywhere. It only follows him when told to. When I saw it in front of him, I took out my wand and said "Wingardium Leviosa!" and the binder came floating into the air in front of me. As I started guiding it with my wand, I realized that everyone in the class was staring at me. Then, I put the binder down and said "Sorry..."

"No no! That was brilliant!" said Leo, as everyone got back to work. I blushed a little, looking at his dark brown, perfect hair. He started blushing too.

Apparently, Keen saw and said, "Get back to work you dope!" He was talking to Leo. Then he smirked and made me turn towards him. He was blushing so hard, that his cheeks were red.

"What do you want Keen?" I said as I started to do some class work. At the corner of my eye, I saw Leo looking kind of sad, but Keen made me keep my focus on him. "Oh, nothing much!" He said eyeing Leo. I had now started to get upset as I saw Leo glaring at Keen.

"Stop it!" I said getting frustrated. Then my eyes started to burn. I don't know why, but instinctively, I opened my mouth to show my teeth. Then my mouth started hurting too. I closed both my eyes and mouth, feeling pain run down my spine. My head started to hurt too. And before I knew it, I was knocked out with blackness covering me. The last thing I heard was a faint "LEAH!"

Year 1 Chapter 7 - Snakes' Blood

What seems like a few seconds ago became a week ago. I was slowly getting up and looking around. I was in the Hospital Wing, and there were lots of gifts in front of me. I was super dizzy, but I tried to stay sitting up. A few seconds later Snowy came over.

"LEAH!" she said flying over to cuddle with me. "I'm so glad you're okay!"

"W-what happened? Why am I here Snowy?"

"I'll tell you everything later! You're going to have a visitor!" Then she flew up to the side table beside me and landed gracefully as someone came in.

"Leah! You're awake!" It was Leo coming to say hi to me. I was still a little dizzy, but I was able to make out his face and hair.

"L-Leo?" I asked confused.

"Yes, it's me, Leah!"

"Leo! What happened?"

"Um...you've been unconscious for a week now..."

"W-what? What are you talking about? It's only been a few hours right?"

"No, Leah. I'm telling the truth." He now sat on my bed and was holding my hand. I then looked at Snowy who was nodding but didn't say anything. "Tell me what happened before you passed out!" He started to get serious.

"Well...I was getting upset that Keen was making you sad..." I then paused and squeezed his hand a little. "Then, I started to get mad, and that's when my eyes started to hurt...and then my face..." I now started to cry a little. "T-then, my hole badly started to hurt. That's when I was feeling faint. After that, my head started to hurt really badly...and a few seconds later, I was in complete darkness."

"Don't worry. I'm here now." Leo said as he leaned over and lightly kissed my forehead. Then he started to leave.

"Where are you going?" I asked.

"You have other visitors Leah... bye for now." Then he smiled and left the room as Ary and Colt came in.

"LEAH!" They both said at the same time. Ary and Colt came over and gave me a big hug. Snowy came over as well, saying hi to Ary and Colt.

"I guys!" I said excitedly.

"Did you hear?" Asked Colt.

"Oh, you mean how I was unconscious for a week? Yeah, I did."

"No!" Said, Ary. "That the Nurse says that you have Snakes' Blood!"

"What's that?" I asked still confused.

"It's when you have Dragon eyes as well as fangs. The Nurse said that the first time Snakes' Blood is activated, the person with Snakes' Blood faints after a series of pain throughout the body.." Ary said.

"Yeah, the nurse said that normally after the person with Snakes' Blood faints, they normally are unconscious for a few days." Said Colt. "We're glad you're ok."

"Thanks, guys..." I said. I didn't have anything else to say so I asked if they could leave. "Snowy?"

"Yes?" She answered me.

"What happened to me? Didn't you see?"

"No....I'm sorry Leah. I didn't."

"That's okay," I said after a long pause.

"You should rest Leah."

"But I feel fine!"

"The nurse said you should feast as much as possible!" Snowy said as her voice got sterner. Then she started to fly out of the room.

"Snowy wait! Please stay with me!"

"I'm sorry Leah, but I can', the nurse won't let me."

"Fine," I mumbled getting tired. Then I fell into a deep sleep.

Year 1 Chapter 8 - The Dueling Club

After I realized that I had Snakes' Blood, I started to get shy. I still hung out with Ary, Colt, and Leo, but no one else. Even Keen stopped following me! I was so happy when he didn't come over to me at Charms. It was now the middle of November and Hogwarts clubs were starting. I really wanted to try Dueling Club with Professor Flitwick, so I signed up. I then got three or four books from the Library and started reading. The books were on Dueling, so I thought this might help me at the club tonight. After I finished the books, I went to Professor Flitwick to get my club badge. The badges were like unlimited hall passes so you can go to your club at night without getting in trouble. At the club, we were told to find a partner and Duel each other. I was in the corner of the room hoping to get someone easy to do. Then this girl came up to me and asked if I wanted to be her partner.

"Oh...um sure," I said startled by her. I've never seen her before, so she probably didn't know that I had Snakes' Blood.

"I'm Abyssinian Black, Aby for short! Nice to meet you!" She held out her hand and smiled at me.

"I'm Leah Scamander...nice to meet you too," I know I didn't sound as excited as Aby, but really, I didn't care. We got back to back and stepped away from each other with our wands ready. Then we both turned around and Aby made the first move.

"Expelliarmus!" She said trying to disarm me. I blocked it and it flew back to her. Aby took the spell and flung it across the room watching it hit another kid.

By the time she looked back, another spell was coming after her "Flipendo!" I shouted hoping it would hit her.

Then she blocked it and said "Impedimenta!" There was now two spells coming after me.

So I paused and said "Protego!" and a ball of energy surrounded me as the spells shot around the room. Some of the others even started watching us.

As the ball disappeared Aby said "Serpensortia!" A snake appeared and slithered towards me. I was frightened as I felt my eyes starting to hurt. It was happening again.

"Flipendo!" I shouted before more pain come to me. The snake flipped over and landed on Aby.

"Wingardium Leviosa!" she said as the snake lifted into the air and disappeared.

"Expelliarmus!" I said as Aby regained focus. Her wand flew across the room. "Wingardium Leviosa!" I said. Then I caught her wand and the room fell quiet. I didn't want her to give up, so I tossed her wand back to her and said "Let's keep going"

"Okay!" said Aby. Then, before I could say anything else, she said "Flipendo!" this time it hit me and I flipped into the air. I was spinning to a wall, but before I hit it, I turned into my Animagus form. As an owl, I flew back to our spot. Even more people were looking at us. Aby apparently was an Animagus too because she transforming into a gray and white wolf with light blue eyes. I raised my wings taunting her, and when I did Aby the wolf charged towards me.

Before she was able to bite me, I turned back to human form and said "Lumos!" I bright light came from the tip of my wand and blinded Aby. She turned back to human form, but before she said anything, I said "Expelliarmus!" and her wand flipped out of her hand again.

This time Aby caught it and said "Flipendo!"

"Protego!" I said blocking the attack.

"Rictusempra!" Aby said. The moment I was hit, I felt this tingle like someone was tickling me. Oh no. I thought as I started to laugh.

"OK OK STOP!" I said as Aby started snickering. After that was over, I got up and said "Wingardium Leviosa!" but she blocked it and send it back towards me.

"Protego!" I said sending the spell to another student. "Rictustuma!" I then said.

Year 1 Chapter 9 - My Birthday

"STOP!" me and Aby heard Professor Flitwick. We thought he was mad at us. "That was amazing!" he said after a long pause. Slowly everyone started clapping for us. I guessed that they liked our battle.

"Thanks!" said Aby.

"Because of that great battle..." Professor Flitwick started. "50 points to Ravenclaw! That Duel was very well done. Even for first years!"

We both smiled as he clapped with the students. That night Aby and I talked and talked in the common room. It was about midnight that we finally fell asleep.

A few days later I was up early like normal, but today was different. It was my birthday. I had brought my favorite bow from home, just for this day. The bow was aqua color and had pink stars on it. I put it in my hair as Aby came over.

"Happy birthday!" she said giving me a hug.

"You remembered?" I asked after the hug.

"Of course I did! And I got you a gift!" she held out a box for me. When I opened it, I saw a cloak and took it out.

"What is it?" I asked putting it on.

"Look in the mirror!" she said. Then I came to my mirror and only saw my head.

"WHAT THE!?" I was so surprised that I yelled a little.

"It's an Invisibility cloak silly!" Aby giggled.

"Oh!" I said feeling a little stupid. "Thanks Aby!" I came over to hug her. Then I put the cloak back into the box and put the box under my bed.

"We better go to breakfast!" she said leading the way to the dinning hall.

"Ok!" then I followed her think about the duel we had a few days before. At breakfast, I saw a lot of people from dueling club come up to us and say hi. Ary, Colt, and Leo came over as well and asked what was going on.

"Oh! Hello Ary and Colt!"

"Happy Birthday!" they both said at the same time.

"Thanks!" I said smiling.

"Package!" said Snowy dropping a big box in front of me.

"Who's it from Snowy?"

"Your dad! He said he was so happy for you!"

"Thanks Snowy!" I said taking the letter that came with it. I opened it and let everyone see it. Then, I read it aloud. "Dear Leah, Happy Birthday! I hope you're making great friends and having fun! This year I got you something that I know you'll love ;) Love You Leah! -Dad" that's what the card said. I opened the box after the letter, and out came Don.

"Meow!" said the kitten jumping on my shoulder.

"Don! It's you!" I said cubling the kitten.

"Leah look," said Snowy landing on the box. In the box was a broom, but not just any broom. It was the Nimbus 2000!

Year 1 Chapter 10 - Chet and the Duel

"Who's that Leah?" asked Colt.

"Oh! Guys, this is my kitten Don! Don this is Ary, Colt, Leo, and Aby."

"Meow!" said Don saying hi. Don then cuddled up and layed down on my shoulder.

"She's small!" said Ary.

"And SO CUTE!" said Aby petting Don on the head.

"Meow" said Don who was now purring.

"She is cute!" said Leo.

After breakfast, I went to Potions. I have Potions for my first class. I got inside the potions room and sat next to Ary. what I didn't realize was that Keen was in my Potions class, but this time, instead of looking at me forever, he glared at me and as soon as I made eye contact, he turned away with a mean look. What's wrong with him? I thought to myself, but I didn't care to ask.

Don was resting in my lap well Snowy went to get some food for her. I had written a note to my dad the night before, and Snowy was bringing it to him, as well as getting food for Don. My Invisibility cloak worked nicely to let me watch over Don and bring her to my classes.

At lunch, I sat next to Leo and Aby. We talked and talked about Dueling club, which was tonight. Then Keen came over.

"Oh no.." said Snowy as she landed next to me.

"Oh, look what we have here..." said Keen coming closer. "It's the Snak-" but he didn't have a chance to finish because before he could say anything else, I had my wand up to his throat. "What are you doing!?" he asked with fear in his tone.

"You leave me and my friends alone.." I said politely. "Understand?"

"I asked you a que-"

"I said, DO YOU UNDERSTAND!" this was almost a yell.

"YES I understand! Now stop please!" I felt he was about to cry.

"Go then!" I said standing up. My eyes started to burn up.

"He's not going anywhere!" said a voice.

"Oh no..." said Aby in a whisper.

"Awe! If it isn't Miss Black!" the a Slytherin another boy walking up to us.

"Chet leave us alone!" said Aby as her hair started turning colors. Everyone except for Chet and Keen had a surprised face. Chet now had his wand out and was pointing it at Aby, while Keen did the same with me.

We both smirked and said "Expelliarmus!" at the same time. Both Chet and Keen's wands flew into the air. "Wingardium Leviosa!" I said catching the wands and bringing them to Aby.

"Nice!" she said grabbing the wands.

"Not this again! Give them back!" said Keen reaching for them.

"NO!" Aby and I said at the same time again. At that moment, an owl came up above and grabbed the wands from Aby.

"Hey!" she said as the bird landed on Chet's arm.

"See you at Dueling Club!" said Chet as he winked at me. "I'm battling you tonight!" he was pointing at me.

The rest of the day, I couldn't stop thinking about what Chet said. Did he really want to Duel me? I thought when charms class was over. Classes were now over and I could go to the common room for an hour before clubs started. "Reciprocal Patronas!" I said to the lady in the picture.

"You may go in Miss Scamander" said the lady.

"Thank you!" I said as she opened the entrance to the common room. A few minutes later, Aby came in.

"I'm here! Sorry I'm late..." she said. When Aby saw Don on my bed, she ran over and started petting her.

"It's ok." I said receiving a note from Snowy. It was dad and he wrote back to me. It said:

Hello again my sweets! How are you doing this fine hour?

And I'm so sorry about Don. She must have jumped into the

package before I sent it. Here is some money to by

the food you need for Don! I love you and miss you! :)

With the note came a little bag with some wizard coins from Gringotts bank. Thanks dad! I thought to myself. I wrote him a note back saying thank you to him, and Snowy went off to give it to him.
