Sorry for the button mashing
Also, sorry for the shade at Stranger Things, they completely pulled through for us. Like Umbrella Academy got, like, five minutes to give show titles, while Stranger Things got new characters, games and toys, and a ten minutes of a drive-in show. And I'm not shading Umbrella Academy, that's a pretty big show, too, so it's pretty crazy!
Anyways, breaking down the reveals.
New Characters —
— Four new characters were announced
— First of all, when I saw Amybeth McNulty was joining the cast I freaked. I can't exactly say why. Maybe because I just...I love Anne Shirley-Cuthbert. She's such an amazing character and Amybeth is such an amazing actor in Anne with an E
— Then they said Vickie was going to be a major character! And I suddenly went from "I don't want any new characters" to "VICKIE, YES"
— I'm a hypocrite, I know
— Also, a lot of people are theorizing Vickie will be Robin's girlfriend, but I don't really agree. Amybeth is 19, in the age group of the party, not the teens, so she'll likely be their age. Also, just because she's a band nerd doesn't equal perfect Robin love interest
— But honestly I'm cool with anything else, unless they make her Will's girlfriend or something, which'll be a waste
— I don't have much else to say on the others, other than that I feel like they have some interesting stuff, and also I'm glad they finally cast their female characters. Because ya'll know I was so excited when they only cast their male character (sarcasm is strong here)
— Next is the games and toys
— They announced a bunch of new collectables, along with a cross over with Smite and Magic: the Gathering. Both of which sound so cool
— Then the drive-in show, which they showed ten minutes of
— I genuinely almost cried. Honestly it showed how much trauma El had gone through, and she's always been a terribly sad character for me. Her entire life has been ripped away and now she's forced to save the world over and over because of powers she had forced on her
— Especially the "you're like Papa!" line. I've always hated how people reduce it to "El being a rat" but the drive-on show really showed exactly how traumatic this scene was for El. "You're like Papa" isn't your typical "I hate you!" or "you're mean because you give me rules!" it's literally El saying, to the best extent she could, that Hopper's controlling actions remind her of her abuser. Just because she can't express herself doesn't make how Hopper is traumatizing her any less important
— Anyways, I'm so excited for the theories for season 4 and for season 4 itself!
