OK, so, everyone knows I'm a big Luther fan. Approximately my second favorite (he shares the spot with Vanya.) However, I found this Tumblr Luther "hate" (it's honestly barely hate — it's a genuine explanation as to why people dislike him) and I wanted to share and address it

The reason I'm posting this is because...

I didn't consider it. And I'm sorry. I'm constantly saturated in people who just joke about Luther's trauma, pretend he's just annoying and stupid and evil. Which he isn't. However I should have looked more into it, and considered that many people may see their abuser in Luther's behavior.

And I want to say, as loudly as possible: if you see your abuser in a character, that is all the reason you need to hate them. That is valid. That is all you need.

Luther throwing his weight around, assaulting his siblings, and refusing to help unless it has to do with Allison, is horrible. And yes, all the characters are bad people on a journey to change, but only Luther is in a position to trigger people's abuse.

I'm not saying I suddenly hate him. He's still a character I enjoy, specifically because I see his growth and possible arcs, and I still hate the mindless "dAd SeNt mE tO tHe MoOn" jokes, but I want to be more respectful to people who hate him.

In short...this is why you actually look into people's arguments. Sometimes they're 100 times more reasonable than you assumed.
