Bison grazed on the swaying grass, or sunbathing in the warm sun. Big bulls head butted each other either to hone their skills or to impress a female in hopes of mating with them and produce offspring of their own. Young females, grazed nearby with calves of their own close to them seeking safety and their mother's milk.

Ahote quietly signaled a couple of the others to scoop out the situation before we could begin the actual hunt. Little wolf wanted to stay hidden nearby and out of the way of the bison since they could divide off and trample while fleeing while they hunted. I don't argue with him since I knew the risk not only the bison got pose for not only him but for the other warriors as well as myself. Some time passed once the scouts were sent out and Ahote made sure that everyone knew their roles and made sure that I had somewhere to safely stay hidden and out of the way once the hunt started. The scouts returned and Ahote finally then explained the plan of attack on the bison and how much we needed for the village. We feared that if we take too much then the gods will be angered and curse the entire village so we had to be careful in how much we hunted and how much we left behind. Once the meeting was over, everyone got ready and into position. The swaying grass continued to blow around in the breeze as I kept a safe distance and watched as the men went about their hunting. Birds flew above us in the sky while some sat in the trees chirping.

The men were quiet as I could see them slowly and silently as they could up to the bison, trying not to scare them in fear of getting trampled or even killed. Then as quickly as it happened, one of the men threw his spear towards a young male bison and the rest followed, hollering and running as they went. The bison in that time had already noticed and began running in different directions, some around the men as they tried to escape while others tried chasing the men off in hopes of saving the herd. The men quickly got out of the way of the ones trying to charge at them while one or two others tried striking one down, but to no avail.

The bison continued to scatter while the men quickly gathered their fallen weapons and gave pursuit to the ones left behind by the herd while fleeing. The bison I thought was a mighty beast, one that can't be tamed but one you couldn't help but admire at its grace and yet boldness. It stays in a herd and caring for its young, sometimes fighting and playing like any other animal or human village. I decided while I waited, I would eat a few nuts and berries that I had found nearby earlier on our journey since I couldn't do much from where I was and I didn't have a weapon to go hunting myself. I took a few small nuts from the little leather bag hung around my shoulder that fell down to my hip as I did so. Wind blowing my hair ever so slightly as I watched the men yelling and running to keep up with the bison.

Hawks flew over head high in the sky above, one making a sound as it did so, probably looking for a meal of its own. I waited and waited for any sign of them finally killing a bison for the village, but nothing. Nothing but silence as I did so. Then like a roaring river, came a scream. Not a animal scream but a human. Quickly, I hid in the tall grass at first and listened and waited for whatever it was to come out. Then I see little Bird come over to where I was, running and out of breath.

I get up and ask him as soon he stops in front of me, "What happened? I heard screaming."

"Little wolf has been hurt. Come out." He says in between breaths.

"We should quickly go then. He'll need tending to." I said.

He nods and turns around to show me where he was. All I could do was quietly follow behind, hoping everything was going to be okay.
