When Alice is about to show me Generation 4, Golly decides to leave the rest who are playing the games and join me. She asks with a curious look, "Hey, Ash and Alice. How did the explanation go?"

Alice smiles warmly, "Oh, we just finished the third generation, and now we are going to the fourth one." She also takes out 5 boxes, each adorned with majestic artwork of Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, Lugia, and Ho-Oh on the cover, making the moment feel more momentous.

"Oh, so you finished the Game Boy and now you're going into the DS era," Golly says, her eyes sparkling with excitement. She gives us a broad smile, clearly eager to join in on the new adventures that await in the next generation of games.

Looking at the two boxes with Lugia and Ho-Oh, I ask with a hint of excitement, "So I have to assume like Fire Red and Leaf Green, they are remakes of the Johto Games?"

Alice smiles, "You're right. They are Heart Gold and Soul Silver Versions. How about starting with these ones?" She gently places the boxes in front of me, their glossy covers shimmering under the light.

Golly adds enthusiastically, "Yeah, like in Fire Red and Leaf Green, where they added the female player known as Leaf, the Heart Gold and Soul Silver have added a new female player, and I guess you know her very well, Lyra."

"Oh, Lyra? I met her in Sinnoh, so I guess even she has become a player character?" I ask, my curiosity piqued.

"Yeah," Alice continues, "and the Johto Pokedex also expands because they decide to add some new evolutions, but only those that evolve by learning a new move, such as Ambipom, Tangrowth, or Mamoswine..." She sighs, a mix of nostalgia and excitement in her voice. "They also add some new features like the Pokeathlon Dome and the new Safari Zone, along with the Goldenrod Broadcast using sounds so that the Gen 3 and 4 Pokemon can be captured."

"I see." I nod thoughtfully. "So basically it is an expanded version with more features and new evolutions, making the adventure even richer and more engaging..."

"Now we should talk about the main thing of Generation 4, which is these games: Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum Version." Golly shows me the boxes with a flourish. "They are based on the Sinnoh Region. You can either pick the male character Lucas or the female character Dawn."

"Dawn?" I say with surprise, "I guess considering May and Lyra are player characters, it is not surprising anymore. So I guess the mom in this game is Johanna?"

"Yep," Golly confirms with a nod. "Since Contests are still a thing, but the game only places one contest hall in Hearthome City..."

Alice shakes her head, "The same place where Dawn lost the contest in the appeal round..." Her expression reflects a mix of sympathy and nostalgia, as she recalls that moment in the game.

"Now for the Pokémon, there are 107 new Pokémon, and a whole lot of new evolutions, baby Pokémon, and even Legendary and Mythical Pokémon," Golly begins. "However, even with these new Pokémon, one thing that causes a lot of players to be enraged is the fact that the Sinnoh Pokédex only has 151 in Diamond and Pearl, and most of the new Pokémon aren't even included."

"Not only that, they didn't do fair for the Fire, Electric, and Dragon types," Alice adds, shaking her head. "The only Fire Types are the Chimchar line and Ponyta line; Electric is just the Shinx line and Pichu line; and for Dragon types, there's only the Gible line."

I furrow my brow in confusion. "So, even with so many new Pokémon, the selection in the Sinnoh Pokédex is limited?"

"I know, right?" Alice sighs, clearly sharing in the frustration. "But anyway, Generation 4 introduces the Shiny, Dusk, and Dawn Stones, and even evolution through moves. They also introduce a bunch of trading items as well, adding a new layer of strategy and excitement to the evolution process."

"So how about the version exclusives?" I ask, trying to understand the differences between the games. "I have to assume that Mismagius and Honchkrow are exclusives since you told me the Dusk Stone is new?"

"Yeah, and there are Glameow and Stunky, and even fossils like Cranidos and Shieldon, considering they added the underground fossil hunt," Alice says with enthusiasm, highlighting the variety of exclusives.

"But what makes it annoying for the game as well is the Honey Trees," Golly sighs, looking a bit frustrated. "You have to spray honey on certain trees, and sometimes the Pokémon you get is random. I had to wait for a long time to get myself a Munchlax..."

"Oops..." I wince a little, feeling the frustration vicariously.

"Now for the gym leaders, Elite Four, and Champion, I guess you already know all of them."

"So that means... Roark (Rock type), Gardenia (Grass type), Maylene (Fighting type), Crasher Wake (Water type), Fantina (Ghost type), Byron (Steel type), Candice (Ice type), and Volkner (Electric type) for gym leaders. Aaron (Bug type), Bertha (Ground type), Flint (Fire type), and Lucian (Psychic type) for Elite Four, and the Champion is Cynthia?"

Alice nods, but a slight frown crosses her face. "Yeah, but first, let me slightly complain about Volkner and Flint's team. Since I mentioned how few Fire and Electric type Pokémon are in Sinnoh, they decided to give them Pokémon that don't fit the type because of their moves. Like Flint has a Lopunny because it can use Fire Punch."

"For real?" I ask, genuinely surprised by the unusual choice.

"Yeah," Alice continues, her voice carrying a mix of frustration and amusement. "They changed that in Platinum because of the expanded Pokédex adding more Pokémon. Though they also changed a lot of ace Pokémon of the leaders, especially after Candice."

"And Cynthia... her team is really hard to beat as well," Golly adds, shaking her head slightly as if recalling a tough battle.

I chuckle, picturing Cynthia's formidable team in my mind. "I guess so, Cynthia is really strong, especially with her Garchomp."

"Now let's talk about the story," Golly begins, leaning in with an excited expression. "As usual, it's the same concept, but this time your rival is Barry. You know, the one who keeps trying to fine everyone?"

"Oh, I thought that Paul would be the rival as well, but it seems not?" I reply, my curiosity piqued.

Alice shakes her head. "Well, because of Team Galactic, there is already a lot of story in it. The major difference with the Team Galactic story in Platinum compared to Diamond and Pearl is quite a bit. First, Charon and Looker only appear in Platinum while they don't appear in the other two games."

"You mean Looker from the International Police? And Charon? The scientist? I assume J is not in it?" I ask, trying to piece together the storyline.

"Nope," Golly confirms. "But Team Galactic's goal, I mean, Cyrus' goal is to create a world without spirit. Which is why he needs Dialga in Diamond, or Palkia in Pearl, or both in the Platinum version. To summon them, they have to take Mesprit, Uxie, and Azelf from their respective lakes and use them to make the Red Chain."

"I know this part very well," I interject, recalling the intricate plot. "So I guess it's also thanks to those three that Dialga and Palkia are freed?"

"Yeah," Alice responds, nodding. "But the huge difference in Platinum is that after Cyrus fails, Giratina shows up as a creepy shadow and drags him into the Distortion World along with Dialga and Palkia. So you would need to go into the Distortion World to stop Cyrus and capture Giratina."

"Oh... that doesn't sound good..." I mutter, imagining the eerie scenario.

"In Diamond and Pearl, Giratina can only be found in Turnback Cave, which you have to navigate like a maze to get to it," Alice explains, her voice steady and informative. "And now let's talk about the other Legendary and Mythical Pokémon. Starting with the lake trio: After the Team Galactic event, you can go to the respective lakes to find them. But Mesprit will start to roam around like Raikou and Entei."

"Which is slightly annoying," Golly mutters, crossing her arms. "I mean, roaming Pokémon can flee, and they could be anywhere, making it a real challenge to catch them."

Alice continues, "Then there is Heatran, which can be found in Stark Mountain, and Regigigas can be found in the Snowpoint Temple. As for Cresselia, like Mesprit, it is a roaming Pokémon. It starts to roam after you go to Fullmoon Island and get the Lunar Feather."

"I see," I nod, absorbing the information. "So, there's a mix of stationary and roaming Legendaries, adding different levels of difficulty and strategy to capture them."

"And the Mythical Pokémon, Manaphy is given to you if you have played Pokémon Rangers," Alice continues. "You get the egg and can hatch it. If you want a Phione, just breed Manaphy with Ditto."

"Pokémon Rangers? What is that?" I ask, curious about this new term.

"It's a spin-off game," Golly explains, her eyes lighting up with enthusiasm. "In Pokémon Rangers, you play as a Ranger who protects Pokémon and their habitats. Instead of catching Pokémon with Poké Balls, you use a device called a Capture Styler to temporarily enlist their help. It's quite different from the main series games, but it's really fun and has its own unique challenges."

Then Alice and Golly shift their focus to explaining Darkrai, Shaymin, and Arceus to me.

"Darkrai can be found on Newmoon Island," Golly begins, her voice taking on a mysterious tone. "But to get there, you need the Member Card, which was distributed during a special event. Once you have it, you can access the island and encounter Darkrai in a very eerie setting."

"Shaymin, on the other hand," Alice continues, a soft smile on her face, "requires the use of Oak's Letter, another event item. With it, you can go to Route 224 and follow a path that leads to Flower Paradise, where Shaymin awaits. It's a beautiful place, quite the contrast to Darkrai's location."

"And then there's Arceus," Golly adds, her eyes widening slightly as if in awe. "Arceus is considered the 'Original One,' the creator of the Pokémon world. To encounter Arceus, you need the Azure Flute, which was supposed to be distributed in an event but never officially was. With the Azure Flute, you can access the Hall of Origin above Spear Pillar. It's quite a mythical and almost divine experience."

I nod, absorbing all the information. "So each of these Mythical Pokémon has a unique and event-driven method of encounter, adding to their rarity and mystique."

"There is also one more thing that makes Platinum different from the Diamond and Pearl games," Alice begins, leaning in as if sharing a secret. "That is the Battle Frontier."

"Oh yeah, I know about that, though I never tried it," I nod, recalling bits and pieces.

"There are five facilities: the Battle Castle, Battle Arcade, Battle Factory, Battle Hall, and Battle Tower," Golly explains, excitement in her voice. "You know Barry's father is the Tower Tycoon of the Battle Tower."

"Yeah, so I guess it is similar to the ones in Hoenn and Kanto," I nod, drawing parallels in my mind.

"They can also be found in Heart Gold and Soul Silver as well," Alice adds. "Heart Gold and Soul Silver did have a lot more expansion after all. Even the Celebi event has an upgrade."

"Upgrade? What do you mean?" I ask, curiosity piqued as I turn to Alice.

"In Johto, it was never mentioned where Giovanni went after being defeated by you or Red in the game," Alice explains, her tone taking on a more mysterious edge. "But because of Celebi's time travel, you get to battle him in Tohjo Falls."

"Oh my..." I nod, taken aback by this revelation.

"And if you have Arceus and take it to the Ruins of Alph," Golly continues, her excitement palpable, "you unlock a special event where you can create your own Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina in the Sinjoh Ruins."

"No kidding?" I ask, my eyes wide with surprise. They both nod, confirming the incredible possibilities these events unlock.

Alice smiles, wrapping up the discussion. "And that is basically Gen 4. It's a fantastic generation with so many new features and challenges."

Golly nods, a satisfied look on his face. "Yeah, Gen 4 brought a lot to the table. From the expanded Pokédex and diverse gameplay mechanics to the deeper storylines and unforgettable characters, it really set a high standard."

I nod in agreement, feeling a renewed excitement for the games. "I can't wait to dive back into Sinnoh and experience everything all over again. It sounds like there's always something new to discover."

Alice grins, "That's the magic of Pokémon. No matter how many times you play, there's always something that makes the journey worthwhile."

As we finish our discussion about Generation 4, I notice Alice and Golly exchanging knowing looks.

Golly smirks, "So, are we ready to move on to the next adventure?"

Alice nods enthusiastically, "Absolutely. Next up is Generation 5, and trust me, it's a whole new world compared to what we've seen so far."

I lean in, curious and eager to hear more. "Alright, let's see what Gen 5 has in store for us."

With that, we gather our notes and prepare to delve into the next chapter of our Pokémon journey, the excitement for new discoveries and adventures palpable in the air.

Here is a new chapter, and now we're done with Gen 4, the next chapter will be Gen 5.
