The next day, Tony decided we would go out for a team building exercise. He had bought a laser tag building a while back specifically for the purpose of strengthening our training skills. This was all fairly new to me and Bucky since laser tag didn't exist when we were young. But we occasionally came here for team building, courtesy of Tony.

"Alright, we need to pick teams. Cap and I will be captains," Tony said once we'd geared up at the laser tag place.

"How come you always get to be captain?" Natasha asked.

"Because I pay for everything. Any other questions?"

"Nope, I'm good." Nat looked over at me and winked. "So, team captains, pick your teams."

Tony clapped his hands together. "Pepper."

I scanned the room. "Bucky."

"Romanoff."

I felt my heart sink. I really had wanted Nat on my team. But I guess we had to fight against each other some time. "Sam."

"Peter."

"Wanda."

"Shuri."

"Clint."

And that was that. The others couldn't make it today, as Thor had returned to Asgard for a bit, Rhodey was out, and Emery...well, she wasn't always around for these sorts of team building exercises. She'd been at the last one we did when I learned that paintball is a very painful sport. She made the occasional appearance to stay with Nat after late nights trying to catch a lead on Kristina Sokolov. The two of them still had the diner job, although that case was pretty much closed by this point. Natasha was spending more time at the compound these days for training and running any leads Emery found. And I knew Emery and Bucky had something going on. I'd learned as much from inside Natasha's closet last night.

Speaking of...Natasha sauntered over to me. "You ready to get your butt whooped?"

"Only if you're the one whooping—Oh god, I just heard how that sounded," I said, scrunching my nose and cringing.

We both laughed.

"Don't worry. I'll go easy on you." She winked at me.

As I watched her walk away, Sam came up to me. "Damn that girl knows how to work you."

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"Steve, c'mon. She's getting in your head. Plus, the bionic over there is getting pretty suspicious of you two."

"Sam," I warned him. "Remember what I said about being nice to Bucky? Plus, she's just doing that thing she does when she's trying to get to me. But it's not gonna work. I'm immune to her charms."

Sam snorted. "Man, you may think you're immune, but the way you're staring at her it's obvious you're not." He lowered his voice. "And you shouldn't be immune. She's your girlfriend."

I smiled. "Yeah. And I'm the luckiest guy alive to have her."

"Hey, Cap! Get your team and get moving, we start in 2!" Tony yelled at me.

I gave him a thumbs-up of acknowledgment then turned back to Sam. "You ready?"

"Always," he said.

Inside the maze, I had to rely on my senses more than I was used to. Tony had decided to make this time a bit more challenging by not letting us use comms. Everything started off great.

That is, until Natasha found me.

She tapped me on the shoulder, but before I could pull my laser trigger, she'd pushed me into a darkened corner and kissed me. Surprised, I kissed her back, unsure of what I should do exactly. We were out with the team, with Bucky who didn't know about us. Didn't she know he could probably see us? Then again, it was dark and I couldn't see anything. So chances are that Bucky couldn't see anything either.

She pulled away, smiling mischievously.

"Wow, that was, um..." I started to say.

Pew pew. I looked down at my chest to see that Natasha had zapped me with her laser gun.

"Girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do!" she said, saluting me and sauntering away.

I stumbled away, unable to form words, waiting for my vest to reset. I got a few more good hits in before we called time on the game.

Tony treated us to pizza once we'd "suited down" and were gathered around a table in the laser tag establishment.

"Ok, the winner of today's team building exercise is...Team Tony! Great effort today everyone."

My team groaned. We were always neck and neck with Tony's team, which just proved how good we all were in general. But this time, I knew it was my fault. I let my emotions get the best of me in there, but there was no way I could admit that out here.

"How did we do individually?" I asked.

"Nat is undefeated as the highest scorer—makes sense given her assassin background," Tony said.

Natasha winked at me.

"And...wow, it looks like Bucky came in second, dropping me on the scoreboard to third place. Great job today everyone," Tony continued.

Bucky and Sam got up from next to me to get pizza first while I stayed seated. Natasha took the opportunity to come over and talk.

"I hope there are no hard feelings about what I did in there," she said, taking a seat next to me.

"You knew exactly what you were doing," I teased. "I guess I'll have to prove myself some other way. Maybe tonight?"

Natasha bit her lip. "Nine pm. At the pool. Don't be late." She got up and walked away.

"Hey, man. We did pretty well all things considered," Bucky said.

I nodded, not able to take my gaze off of Natasha, who was now laughing with Pepper and Wanda about something. "Yeah."

Bucky wrinkled his nose and followed my gaze. "Why do you keep doing that? You're staring at Natasha like she's your whole world."

Because she is, I thought to myself. I turned away from her. "No reason. Let's have some pizza."
