After hours of working on changing the tape, Kendall, Murray, and Jonathan had finally made the perfect copy.

"You see why I have to stop the truth from spreading, too. Just the same as those weeds there. By whatever means necessary."

When the tape turned off, Murray leaned back in his loveseat as he cheered. He raised his glass of watered down vodka into the air to cheers the two teenagers. "To taking down the man." Murray sang and both Kendall and Jonathan smiled. "To taking down the man!"

Neither of the teens took sips of their drinks and after getting more comfortable in is seat, Murray noticed and sighed. "Commie bastards sure know how to make a spirit. Am I right?" He asked, gesturing to Kendall and Jonathan's glasses.

Kendall and Jonathan shook their heads, neither of them moving to grab their drinks. "Oh, no, no, no. We... we can't." Kendall said and Jonathan nodded in agreement with her. "Yeah, no. No, I've got to drive."

"Drive? What, tonight?" Murray laughed out and Kendall's brows furrowed at the mans laugh. "Our families–" "Would be proud if they knew what you were up to. Just tell 'em you're at Nancy's or Dawn's or whoever's, and take my guest room." Murray interrupted.

Kendall and Jonathan turned to each other at the same time, Jonathan's brows raised. "I mean, do... do you want to stay?" He asked and Kendall leaned back into the couch she and Jonathan were sharing, nodding her head. "Well, it is pretty late."

Jonathan gulped, muttering a small "okay" before he turned to Murray and cleared his throat. "Could I use the sofa?" Jonathan asked. Kendall rolled her eyes, putting her hand on Jonathan's shoulder. The boy turned his head to Kendall, his eyes wide and his cheeks tinging red slightly.

"Come on. I'm not gonna make you take the sofa." Kendall tried to reason as Murray watched the two teens with a confused, but overall amused smile. "Okay, I'm confused. What's going on here? A lovers' quarrel?" He asked and the two teens whipped their heads to face Murray, Jonathan looking scared and Kendall looking embarrassed.

"What?" Kendall asked as Jonathan started to shake his head crazily. "We're just friends." He said. Murray threw his head back, drunkly cackling in to the air. He looked back at the teens and sighed to control his laughter. "You've told me a lot of shockers today, but that, that is the first lie."

Kendall immediately started to shake her head defensively. "It's not a lie." Kendall said and Murray rose his eyebrows. "No?" He asked and Kendall gulped as he continued. "You're young, attractive. You've got chemistry, history, plus the real shit, shared trauma. Both of your brothers disappearing last year. Trust issues, am I right?" He asked before pointing at Jonathan. "Something to do with your dad."

Jonathan was taken aback by that comment. He shook his head, no longer meeting the man's eyes. "What? No, I mean, my dad's..."

"An asshole." Kendall muttered, finishing Jonathan's sentence as she looked down at her hands in her lap. Jonathan turned to Kendall, his gaze softening when he noticed the glum look on her face. Murray took noticed of this and pointed at Kendall. "And your dad..."

"Is horrible." Jonathan said, making Kendall slowly look up to him, her eyes big like a hurt animal. Jonathan and Kendall stared into each others eyes, both of their minds reeling of the night before in the hotel room.

Murray smirked at the sight of the two teens having a moment. He sighed, making Jonathan and Kendall jump away from each other and look at him. "It is a curse to see so clearly. So, how'd I do?" He asked.

Neither of them answered his question, Jonathan nervously looking down at his fidgeting hands as Kendall blinked in shock at him. Murray chuckled, standing up from his loveseat across from them. "My goodness. You two are adorable, aren't you?" He asked before his happy demeanor fell into a serious one.

"Listen... there's a pull-out sofa in my study if you want it." Murray told Jonathan in a defeated tone. But if I were you, I'd cut the bullshit, listen to that one," He pointed at at Kendall. "and share the damn bed."

Murray walked towards his room, leaving the teens all alone. It was quiet between the two of them before Kendall yawned. Jonathan looked down at her and chuckled. "You need to go to bed?" He asked and Kendall smiled, her eyes closed as she stretched. "Yep."

Jonathan groaned as he got off the couch. He moved around to stand in front of Kendall. He holds his hands out to her and quickly, Kendall grabs onto his hands. Jonathan pulls Kendall up, muttering a small "Alright, come on." as he pulled her up and walked with her to the guest room.

...

Once they were ready for bed, Kendall and Jonathan laid down. They didn't realize it until they were both already comfortable, but based on the sides of the bed they were on, they'd be facing each other rather than having their backs to each other.

As they faced each other in the dimly lit room, tension started to build in the air. In the stillness, they both stole glances at each other, their minds swirling with unspoken desires. As they lay there, Jonathan's eyes fall down to Kendall's lips. Kendall felt her breath catch, her heartbeat in her ears. Jonathan's eyes lingered on Kendall, his thoughts racing.

"I'm sorry about last night." Jonathan whispered. His eyes were glued on Kendall's, sending a chill down the girls spine. Kendall blinked, her mouth opening and closing slightly. "What do you mean?" She whispered back.

Jonathan looked back and forth between Kendall's eyes and lips before he slowly brought his hand up to cup Kendall's face. Kendall felt her head get dizzy, almost as if the butterflies in her stomach traveled up to her head.

It was queit between the two of them. Jonathan silently asking if what he was about to do was okay. Kendall barely nodded, but Jonathan saw it and slowly started to lean in.

Kendall's eyes slowly started to close when she felt Jonathan's nose brush hers.

Kendall felt a rush of emotions when her lips met Jonathan's—nervousness, relief, and an undeniable joy. Time seemed to pause as silly as it sounded, even though she had had many kisses before, this one felt like a first kiss to Kendall.

This kiss felt sweeter than the other kisses she's had. More real. She felt more connected to Jonathan after one kiss with him than she ever felt after all of her kisses with Steve.

What felt like minutes was actually seconds when Jonathan and Kendall pulled away. Kendall slowly opened her eyes to find Jonathan's face still a mere inches away from hers. His face was pink with a nervous blush.

Suddenly, both of them broke out into big grins, Jonathan's hand falling from Kendall's face. Jonathan dropped his head as he laughed. Kendall started to laugh with him and when Jonathan brought his head back up to Kendall's face and leaned in to kiss her again.

...

In the morning, Kendall and Jonathan called their homes to apologize for staying at their friends houses an extra night and to let them know they're okay. Kendall's grandma answered instantly, saying she was waiting for Kendall or Marcus to call since both of them were out having sleepovers.

As they walked out of Murray's home, the man handed them a bottle of vodka. "For your travels." He offered and Kendall smiled, taking the bottle before Murray pulled another bottle out from behind his back. This time, a big bottle of water. "And to water it down." He said and Jonathan chuckled, taking the bottle of water.

Kendall sent a grateful smile to the man as she nodded her head. "Thank you for everything." She said and Murray shrugged, smiling nonetheless. "Don't thank me yet. Just keep your eyes on the papers, hmm?" Murray hummed and Jonathan and Kendall nodded, making him smile.

"And if you need to reach me again... don't." Murray said before he slammed the door in the their faces, the loud lock of the door echoing after. Jonathan stared at the door in shock as Kendall smiled. "I like him." Kendall laughed out, spinning on her heels and walked towards Jonathan's car.

...

After a very long drive, Kendall and Jonathan made it back to Hawkins. They stopped at Kendall's house first, Kendall telling her grandma that she came home to freshen up after her "sleepover at Nancy's", but is gonna go back out with Jonathan now.

They then went to Jonathan's house. They practically barreled through the front door. Kendall got deja vu walking into the Byer home and seeing the walls covered in drawings, reminding her of the year prior when the home was covered in Christmas lights. "What..."

She turned to Jonathan, hoping he'd had an explanation, but he looked just as confused. "What is all of this?" Kendall asked under her breath. She wasn't expecting Jonathan to answer, but he did anyway. "I don't know."

He started running down the hallways towards the bedrooms, screaming for his mom and brother. Kendall continued to look around the room. Her eyes fell to the floor and she noticed the drawings were taped to the floor as well. Kendall side stepped so she wasn't standing on the drawings before she noticed a polaroid on the ground.

Kendall's brows furrowed as she bent down. She grabbed the photo and stood back up. She knew Jonathan isn't shoot polaroid and neither did anyone else in the house. Jonathan came back in and walked up to Kendall, noticing she was holding something in her hands.

His eyes widened at the sight of the polaroid. He looked to Kendall just as she looked up at him. "I don't shoot polaroid."

Kendall nodded slowly with Jonathan, looking back around the house. "Someone else has been here."

...

Jonathan slowed the car down as he and Kendall pulled up to deserted Hawkins Lab. They figured this was their best bet as a place to check. When the car turned off, they slowly got out and started walking towards the gate. "Why are the lights off?" Kendall asked quietly as she stared off at the laboratory with no power.

Jonathan scoffed, catching Kendall's attention. She watched as he walked towards the security booth to open and close the gate. "No way security took the night off." He muttered. Jonathan and Kendall both walk into the small booth.

Jonathan tried to open the front gate so they could drive into the lab, but the button didn't work. "The power's off." He muttered. Kendall looked up at the lab in front of them that had obviously lost its power and scoffed. "Well, duh." She muttered, earning a small glare from Jonathan as she walked out of the booth.

The sound of rustling in the trees made Kendall freeze. It didn't sound like the normal trees and bushes rustling in the wind, but the sound of multiple people pushing through bushes.

Kendall froze, a chill going down her spine as she looked off at the edge of the woods where she heard the noises. "Jonathan?" Kendall whispered and noticing how quiet she was and how soft her voice sounded, Jonathan slowly walked up beside her, trying to stay quiet as well. "What's wrong?" He whispered.

When he noticed Kendall's eyes glued onto the woods ahead of them, he turned his head to look there too.

"I think there's something in the woods." Kendall whispered. When rusting of the trees and faint murmuring started to echo just inside of the trees, the two teens jump. Jonathan stuck his hand out in front of Kendall and pushed her behind him slightly. "Hey, stay back." He whispered before taking a small step forward so he was completely in front of Kendall.

"Hurry up!"

Kendall and Jonathan eased, the two of them turning to each other at the familiar voice of Steve. When Steve, Nancy, Dustin, Lucas, Marcus, and Billy Hargrove's little sister emerged from the trees, Jonathan and Kendall's jaws dropped.

"Steve?" They both asked. Steve took the sunglasses off of his eyes and started walking down the hill to get closer to the two teens, his brows furrowed. "Kendall?" He asked as Kendall's eyes moved passed her ex and to her little brother.

"Marcus." She whispered under her breath, running up to him. Marcus was confused and grateful to see his sister. "What are you doing here?" Marcus asked as Kendall pulled him into a hug. Almost as soon as the hug started, it ended with Kendall pulling away and grabbing his shoulders. "What are you doing here?" She snapped and Marcus's eyes widened. "We're looking for Mike and Will." He said and Kendall's stomach dropped.

She slowly turned to face the lab. "They're not in there, are they?" Jonathan asked as Kendall turned to Steve, whacking his shoulders

Steve yelped at Kendall hit, looking at her with a confused look as she squinted at him. "Why the hell are you with Marcus and his friends?" She noticed all the cuts and dirt on him and her anger turned into confusion. "And what the hell happened to you?"

Before Steve could answer, the sound of monsters screeching echoed from the hospital. Everyone turned to face the lab and watched as floor by floor, the power turned back on. Kendall let out a breath of air. "The power's back." She whispered and immediately Jonathan and Dustin ran towards the booth to open the gate.

Jonathan was inside first and started hitting the button as many times as possible. When nothing happened, Dustin scoffed from beside him, trying to push him out of the way. "Let me try."

Jonathan shook his head and stood his ground, continuing to hit the button. "Hang on..."

"Let me try, Jonathan!" Dustin yelled, finally getting Jonathan to get out of the booth and let him try. Dustin looked at the gate in front of him as he started spamming the open gate button.

When nothing happened, Dustin groaned, stomping out of the booth angrily. "Son of a bitch! You know what..." Kendall laughed at the boys anger, a fake shock taking over her face. "What? Did it not work?" She asked, earning the finger from Dustin.

Suddenly, the gate opened. Dustin let out a proud cheer as Jonathan and Kendall ran towards Jonathan's car. They got inside and Jonathan immediately started driving towards the front entrance of the lab.

When they got there, they noticed Hopper, Joyce, Mike and Will just outside the doors of the lab as smaller demogorgans tried to breaking through the door to get to them. Hopper was trying to calm down a sobbing Joyce and Mike holding an unconscious Will.

As Jonathan stopped the car, Kendall opened her door and stood up, keeping her feet inside the car. "Come on! Get in!" Kendall yelled and immediately, Hopper took Will from Mike and ran to his truck while Mike grabbed onto Joyce and started to lead her towards Jonathan and Kendall.

Kendall got out of the car and gently grabbed onto Joyce's wrist and led her into the seat she was once sitting in so Joyce could sit next to Jonathan.

Once Joyce was in the passenger seat, Kendall pushed Mike into the backseat and got in after Mike. Jonathan didn't even wait for Kendall to close the back door before he slammed his foot on the gas and drove out of the lab, Hopper driving out right after him.

Kendall could notice Mike starting to hyperventilate beside her and quickly, he threw himself into Kendall's side, crying into her shoulder.

Kendall was shocked by this. Her and Mike had said maybe a handful of words to each other. But nonetheless, Kendall cradled the boys head and ran a hand through his hair to calm him down.
