Thorin's POV

I did not care for the way Beorn was looking at Y/N. He was studying her. Finally he spoke. "I know you," he said softly. Y/N's face contorted in confusion. "I do not know you, I'm sorry." I watched as Beorn continued to stare. "You are Serena." I looked at Y/N, who now looked as if she would faint. "Serena is...was my mother. How could you have known my mother?" I listened intently. "I was but a child when I knew her. She was a very powerful sorceress. Then one day she just disappeared with her husband and small babe. I assume that was you."

After breakfast and some negotiation, Beorn loaned our company some ponies and provisions for our journey. I knew where our next destination was, and I was not happy about it. The forest was inhabited by elves and not just any elves. The very elves that turned their backs on my kin when the dragon invaded Erebor. We rode in silence until we reached the borders of Mirkwood. There, the wizard left us yet again. "Stay on the path, no matter what," he warned before riding off again. I knew Mirkwood could be treacherous so I planned on heeding the wizard's advice.

Somehow we lost the path and began walking in circles. Then, everything became a blur. That is until I felt the sensation of falling. Apparently, my company and I had all been attacked by giant spiders and were now trying to flee from them. Elves started pouring from out of the forest. They began killing the spiders and when they were all dead, the elves took us prisoner. This did not bode well for us. They stripped us of our weapons and led us into the throne room of Thranduil, the Elvenking.

I did my best to shield Y/N from Thranduil's view. I did not wish for him to turn his attention and wrath on her. "Well, this is an interesting development." he said, his eyes scanning the company before landing in the one place I'd hoped they wouldn't. Thranduil rose from his throne and came toward us. "What is such a lovely creature doing in a company such as this?" he questioned as he took Y/N's small hand in his and pressed a kiss to her knuckles. I could feel my rage building.

Your POV

I sensed the anger emanating from Thorin as the king kissed my hand. His intense icy gaze made me uncomfortable, a feeling I was not familiar with. "They are assisting me in finding a way back to my home," I lied quickly. Not quickly enough. His eyes found my courting braid and he smirked. "You are a terrible liar my dear," he said releasing my hand. "Oakenshield, I would not have thought you capable of such affections." He turned back to me and continued, "Perhaps she is nothing more than a temporary consort. A toy."

I don't know what possessed me, but my hand seemed to have a mind of its own as it flew up and smacked the Elvenking. I couldn't even speak I was so angry. Thranduil's face contorted in anger. "Take them to the dungeons. Except Oakenshield." The rest of the company and I were pulled away and lead deep into the heart of the palace. I was forcefully shoved into a cell. "I fear I may have made things worse. I'm sorry," I say to the dwarves after I'd calmed down. "That's alright, dear," Balin said. "Besides, did you see his pompous face?! He looked like a child that had his favorite toy taken away," Bofur laughed boisterously. I did not join in. I was too worried about Thorin.

I tried using my magic to open the cells, but they were sealed shut and fortified against magic. I gave up and waited to see if the elves were going to bring Thorin down with us. He was soon lead down and thrown into a cell next to mine. "Did he offer you a deal?" Balin asked before I could get a word in. "He did." Then Thorin said something in Khuzdul that I did not understand. It sounded...offensive. "Balin, should I be grateful that I don't understand Khuzdul right now?" I asked. "Aye, lass." I laughed quietly to myself. "A deal was our only hope."

"Not our only hope," Thorin said and I knew he was thinking of Bilbo. Somehow Bilbo had escaped capture. "I'm afraid my magic is no good," I told him as a couple elf guards approached my cell. "King Thranduil wants to see you," one said opening the cell door. "Leave her be!" Thorin growled. I paused outside his cell. "I'll be alright. If you get the chance to get out, take it. I'll find a way back to you. I promise," I whispered before the guards pulled me along. I was taken back to the throne room. As the Elvenking glared down at me from his throne, I cursed my temper. It always seemed to get me in trouble.

"Come on, little princess!" Curly jeered at me. He was trying to bait me into crying. "You don't belong here. You're nothing but a little girl." I'd been with Pan and the Lost boys for a few days and so far, the only boys who didn't make fun of me were Pan and Felix. The others consistently bullied me. For the most part I ignored it, but today I'd had enough. When Curly whacked my shoulder with club, I spun around, grabbed the club and smacked him with it. "I am NOT a princess!" I yelled, accenting every word with a sharp smack with the club.

For a moment, all the boys simply stared, but then they all pounced. I fought back with everything I had until Pan and Felix returned and broke us apart. As Felix held me back, I still tried to attack my bullies. "Seems like my Lost Girl could use some time to calm down. Who started this?" All the boys but one pointed at me. Tibbs, a small boy who didn't say much pointed at Curly. It lead to both Curly and myself being put in cages and strung up from trees for an entire day with no food. And that was an easy punishment.

"I could have you beheaded for your brazenness earlier. No one has ever dared to strike me before," Thranduil's voice cut into my memory. Once again, I spoke before I could stop myself. "If you're expecting an apology, I wouldn't hold my breath," I said flatly. He smirked. That seemed to be his favorite expression. "You are either very brave or foolish to speak to a king in such a way when you cannot defend yourself." It was my turn to smirk. I looked up at him, nearly straining my neck. "What makes you think that I cannot defend myself? I could have retrieved my weapon at anytime and anyway, I do not need it." I didn't like being intimidated like he was trying to do.

In a second, the elf was standing right in front of me. I was gripped with a momentary panic and accidently used magic and set fire to the king's cloak. He jumped back, astonished. I quickly put the flames out and for once, I did apologize. "I'm sorry. That happens sometimes when I'm taken by surprise." The look of shock was replaced by his signature smirk yet again. God was it irritating. Suddenly, one of the guards burst into the room. "The prisoners have escaped, my king!" I hid my smile, knowing that Bilbo had somehow gotten the company out.

"Oakenshield is a fool," I heard Thranduil mutter before he turned back to me and said, "Your lover has left you. Abandoned you to your fate with me." I glared at him and then smiled. "Thorin is doing what is best for his people, exactly like I asked him to do. No doubt I will return to him soon." Thranduil regarded me for a moment and then bowed his head. "You have such faith in him. He has chosen well, I will grant him that. However, you shall remain here for a while longer. Guard, return her to the dungeon."
