Following the evening he spent talking to Roman about his encounter with Virgil the merman, he found a rent-able beach house to stay instead of the hotel. It was fairly close to it, so that he could continue to visit the bartender. He was the only person he'd talked to since moving to Hawaii. He wanted to remain in contact with him, as a friend and as someone who could help him get a better understanding of these mermaid rumors.

When Logan entered the house, he immediately felt more comfortable than in the hotel room. It was spacious and contained lots of windows for viewing the beach just a few yards away.

It only took him about twenty minutes to empty his suitcase's contents and put them away in their new respective places in the beach house. Once he did so, he strolled out to the pool that had been pictured in the photos online. He dipped his fingers into the water. It was pleasantly warm due to the exposure of the sun, and something he'd seen noted on the website was that it was a saltwater pool.

Saltwater pools were very common in this area, as they were cheaper to maintain and caused less risks of spillage of chemicals into the ocean; not to mention, the salinity wasn't high enough to burn your eyes. They might become irritated if you swam around with your eyes open for three hours but for a nice half an hour lounging? It'd be fine.

Besides, he wasn't one for swimming much anyway. Logan preferred to relax in the water; sitting in the hot tub with a book would most likely be his new favorite activity.

He was certainly open to doing just that, heading back inside to grab one of the books he'd brought with him and recently put into one of the bookshelves in the house. He settled on his personal favorite. The Murder of Roger Ackrodyd by Agatha Christie was by far the most enjoyable book Logan had ever read; he enjoyed it so much so, that he continued to reread it many times after finishing it the first time. It was his go-to book for relaxing. He enjoyed looking for all the subtle details and clues that pointed to the murderer that first time readers would never have any hope of catching.

Picking up the book, he made his way back to the porch. He found a comfy lounge chair and got comfortable. The weather was extremely pleasant and he smiled to himself as he read happily with a beautiful view of the ocean in front of him.

As the sun started to sink lower in the sky, he put down the book and decided to go for another walk on the beach to watch the sunset. Leaving his shoes by the pool, Logan opened and shut the little gate behind him and headed down onto the beach. He could admit that it was nice to feel the sand beneath his feet; however, he preferred it to stay only on his feet. It was when it got everywhere that it frustrated him.

The sky looked like a painting above him, making him smile as he reached out to straightened his glasses. He could get used views like this. It was as he was looking out at the beautiful horizon that he saw a familiar flash of color.

Logan narrowed his eyes, stepping closer to the shoreline as he looked closer. This time he was certain. There was a shimmering pastel blue and pink tail of a mermaid breaking the surface of the water. It then disappeared under the water with a shimmer. He figured that it would disappear again like last time he saw a glimpse of the possible merfolk, but to his surprise, something else broke the surface in the distance.

His heart raced as he recognized a human's head. It didn't remain above the water long enough for him to make out the details, but the silhouette was distinctly human like before it disappeared.

There was no doubting it at this point. Logan had to find out if merfolk were real, and he had to study them if they were.
