Peeta

Katniss and I have been working together for about two months now. She's fun to work with, making jokes and trying her best to get along with Effie. She's perfect. In all honesty, I've had a crush on her since I first heard her voice on the radio, I had a huge crush on the raven haired goddess who I've become great friends with. Actually getting to know her just stacks upon that.

She sees us as just friends. And at this point, I'm fine with that. I'm happy with our friendship. She often talks about home, which is easy to relate to. Both of us came from small towns in the bluegrass state. She likes joking about it.

I'm broken out of my trance when Katniss snaps her fingers in front of my nose.

"Hey Mellark, you with us?" she asks laughing.

"Yeah," I reply. "I'm just nervous I guess." She nods.

"That sound booth over there is not as scary as it seems," she says. "I promise."

"What if I screw up?" I say.

"We'll do another take," She says. "It's no big deal. Just look at me. Don't look at the others. They aren't there. It's just me." She gets up and grabs a headset and holds one out to me. "Come on, I'll show you the ropes kid." I take it from her.

"Aren't I six months older than you?" I ask as I follow her in.

"In this industry, you're a newborn pup," she says. Our mics are nearly right next to each other and she winks at me.

"So you start?" I ask.

"Yep," she says. "It's almost every other line. Just sing the parts I highlighted." She puts on her headphones and winks at me as I put on mine." She gives the others a thumbs up but I don't look at them. I keep my eyes on her like I promised. The music starts in the headphones and Katniss steps up to her mic. She sings first, a sweet alto sound leaving her lips. Then I join in.

(AN: For the rest of the stories, the songs will be like this: Italics-Katniss, Bold-Peeta, Bold Italics-Both)

I burned my hand, I cut my face
Heaven knows how long it's been
Since I've felt so out of place
I'm wonderin' if I'll fit in

Debbie and Charley said they'd be here by nine
And Deb said she might bring a friend
Just my luck, they're right on time
So here I go again

I'm gonna smile my best smile
And I'm gonna laugh like it's going out of style
Look into her eyes and pray that she don't see
That learning to live again is killing me

Little cafe, table for four
But there's just conversation for three
I like the way she let me get the door
I wonder what he thinks of me

Debbie just whispered, "You're doin' fine"
And I wish that I felt the same
She's asked me to dance, now her hand's in mine
Oh, my god, I've forgotten her name

But I'm gonna smile my best smile
And I'm gonna laugh like it's going out of style
Look into her eyes and pray that she don't see
That learning to live again is killing me

Now here we are beneath her porch light
And I say what a great time it's been
A kiss on the cheek, a whisper goodnight
And I say, "can I see you again"

And she just smiles her best smile
And she laughs like it's going out of style
Looks into my eyes and says, "We'll see"
Oh this learning to live again is killing me
God this learning to live again is killing me

The song ends and Katniss smiles at me, her grey eyes sparkling like black diamonds. She looks to the others and I see Effie clapping and jumping up and down like a fool. Katniss slips her headphones off and looks at them. Haymitch gives her a thumbs up and she laughs before looking back at me.

"See," she says. "I told you you'd be fine. One take. It was great." She looks at her song list and then turns to me. "Looks like it's just you this time." I look to see she's right.

"Not for the chorus," I reply.

"Yeah, but for the most part, I get to sit here and listen to you. That's fine with me though," she says. "I get see how you do on your own." She looks very intrigued as she pulls up a stool and sits in front of her mic.

"Do I get a stool?" I ask and she shakes her head.

"You have to earn the stool," she says. "Sing for me and maybe, just maybe, I'll ask them to bring you one in." I look over at them and notice they are waiting for me. I put my headphones back on and give them a thumbs up. The song starts and she gives me a reassuring smile.

She left a yellow rose and a long neck bottle
On a table beside my bed
With a short little note that said I had a good time
It was written in lipstick red
She didn't sign her name I wonder
If that a little secret that she keeps
Ooo... she's walkin' around in my sleep

Dream walkin', pillow talkin'
She's callin' my name again
Day's breakin' I ain't wakin' up, I'm sleepin' in
I'm on a roll now, I gotta know how this dream ends

She took my new sunglasses and my old jean jacket
And she never even bothered to ask
You could say I haven't seen her since late last summer
But every night she comes back
Just like smoke through the keyhole
She slips in so silently
Ooo... she's walkin' around in my sleep

Dream walkin', pillow talkin'
She's callin' my name again
Day's breakin' I ain't wakin' up, I'm sleepin' in
I'm on a roll now I gotta know how this dream ends

Ooo... there's a thin line between dreams and memories
I'll be losin' my mind 'till she comes back to me

Dream walkin', pillow talkin'
She's callin' my name again
Day's breakin I ain't wakin' up, I'm sleepin' in
I'm on a roll now I gotta know how this dream ends
I'm on a roll now I gotta know how this dream ends
I'm on a roll now I gotta know how this dream ends

She's walkin' around in my sleep
She's walkin' around in my sleep

Katniss laughs and nods.

"Okay Mellark, you got your stool," she says. "And if you aren't to busy, I was thinking of going out for drinks after this. You want in?"

"I'd love to," I say smiling at her.
