When Sonakshi regained her consciousness, she found herself to be lying in the arms of Dev, with Bunty standing with a worried expression.

She was about to get up, but Dev said sternly, "Koi zaroorat nahiin hai utne ki. Chup chaap se leti raho"

"Dev...main theek hun. Bass thoda sa chakkar aa gaya tha. Am fine now" she replied weakly

"No Sona...you are not fine. You have taken this competition too seriously. Ab practice karne ki koi zaroorat nahiin hai. Am droping you home right now..." he scolded and Sonakshi had no choice but listen to him.

He dropped her home and Asha was worried too seeing her in this condition. But she did give her some medicines and assured Dev that Sonakshi would be fine by tomorrow. After a while, Dev too left bidding them bye.

Next day,

INDIAN INSTITUTE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES (IIAS)

Dev was impatiently waiting for Sonakshi near the college gate for past half and hour and still there were no traces of her. This was the first time, Sonakshi was late for the college. With each passing second, he was going restless. He even tried calling her, but her phone was switched off. He finally decided to check on her and drove towards her house

BOSE HOUSE

"Sona...Sona" Dev shouted standing near her door. Asha quickly opened the door, but before she could even ask something, he rushed inside and straight away went to Sonakshi's room.

"Sonaaa...aaj college kyon nahiin aayi??" he asked worriedly on seeing Sonakshi lying on bed looking a bit pale.

"Isse fever hai Dev" replied Asha coming from behind.

"What?? Fever?? Kal mujhe pehle hi tumhe skating karne se rok dena chahiye tha. You were over exerting yourself. Ab dekho...ho gaya naa fever Its all because of me. Naa main tumhe kal skate karne deta...aur na tum aise beemar padti?? he said guiltily

"Haan... aur na tum aise college chod kar mere paas aate. Jao...abhi do lectures baaki hain" she said strictly

"Dev...aise studies ko neglect mat karo. Maine Sona ko medicines de diye hai. Ab woh aaram karegi toh jaldi theek ho jayegi." Asha seconded her and then went into the kitchen to get Dev something.

Sonakshi sighed and said, "Haan..main toh aaram se hi hun. Kam se kam college mein tumhaare kiye hue mischiefs se toh bach jaungi. Nahiin toh humesha mujhe pareshaan karte rehte ho"

"Accha?? Main tumhe pareshaan karta hun?" he asked sadly and made a gloomy face

Sonakshi cupped his face in her hands and asked, "Gussa ho gaye?? Sorry...!! Main toh mazaak kar rahi thi. Lekin Dev, mujhe bhi tumhaare bina kahaan accha lagta hai?? Woh toh sirf iss fever ki wajah se yahaan hun."

"Hmm..." he replied

"Accha, ab tum college jao. Please. Aise studies ko lightly nahiin lena chahiye naa..." she spoke softly

"Theek hai. Lekin ek shart hai. Tum iss bed se uthogi nahiin. Yahiin leti raho gi (cupping her cheeks) aur jaldi theek ho jaogi. Deal??" he said

"Deal" she said smiling at him.

"Ok then...main jaa raha hun. Bye" he said pecking her forehead

"Bye"

"Maa...main jaa raha hun" he shouted so that his voice could reach Asha.

He gave a longing look to Sonakshi and left. Sonakshi got up and went towards the balcony to wave him bye

Dev, sensing a strong gaze on his back, turned and was happy to see Sonakshi in her balcony. He gestured her 'I Love You' and she too, reciprocated back

He finally drove off to college after waving her good bye.

Sonakshi smiled to herself and was about to go inside her room, when she again felt dizzy and fainted.

"Dekhiye Doctor Uncle...maa choti si baat par kitna pareshaan ho jaati hain. Thoda sa fever kya ho gaya aur main faint ho gayi toh aapko bula liya" she said to Dr Diwakar who was taking her blood sample.

"Bula liya toh kya hua beta?? Mera bhi tumse milne ka bohot mann kar raha tha. Kam se kam issi bahane tumse mil liya." he said smilingly while caressing her hairs.

"Mujhe bohot tension ho rahi hai Sir. Kal se iska fever nahiin utra aur isse weakness bhi ho rahi hai. Do baar faint ho chuki hai" Asha spoke worriedly

"Nothing to worry Asha. Maine injection de diya hai. Isse fever bhi utar jayega aur neend bhi aa jayegi. Aur haan Asha, maine blood sample le liya hai. Hume ek baar test kara lena chahiye.Kal shaam tak reports aa jayenge"

Asha: "Jee Sir"

Diwakar turned to Sonakshi and said, "Main chalun beta?? Good night...take care aur raat ko agar thodi si bhi tabiyat kharaab lage toh mujhe phone kar dena!! Ok??" Sonakshi nodded smilingly and waved him goodbye.

Next Day,

JLS HOSPITAL

"Yeh aap kya keh rahe Dr Kapoor?? How is this possible??" Dr Diwakar was aghast.

"I am sorry Dr Khanna...but the reports are positive" Dr Kapoor replied gloomily

"Lekin....lekin yeh kaise ho sakta hai?? Woh bacchi hai.... usne abhi tak apni life enjoy bhi nahiin ki...Itni pyaari bacchi!! Main....main Asha se kya kahunga??" he asked petrified

"Dr Khanna....main aapko samajh sakta hun. Par aap bhi ek doctor hain. Aap jaante hain ki ab kuch nahiin ho sakta" he replied

"Aap fir se ek baar test kar lijiye Dr Kapoor. Ho sakta hai ki lab mein kuch galti ho gayi ho!! I am sure ki Sonakshi ko yeh nahiin ho sakta" he pleaded

"Aap chahein toh mein phir se test kar leta hun. But am sorry Dr Diwakar, there is no mistake about this case" he said sadly

What they were not aware of was that their conversation was heard by Asha who had come to collect Sonakshi's reports. She was frightened to hear them talking about Sonakshi's case. Her situation seemed to be grave and her heart was filled with fead thinking of all the worst cases possible.

After Dr Kapoor left the cabin, she rushed inside. Diwakar was startled to see her and tried to compose himself.

"Sir...aap itne pareshaan kyon lag rahe hain?? Sona ki blood ki reports kya hain?? Dr Kapoor kya keh rahe the?? Bataiye naa Sir...Sona ko kya hua hai??" She asked on the verge of tears

"Ahh...kuch nahiin...abhi woh phir se test karenge. Tum kyon itni pareshaan ho rahi ho??" He said trying to calm her down

But his assuring words did no good to her and she further asked, "Haan...lekin abhi ke reports kya hain?? Bataiye naa Sir...please"

"Asha...reports galat bhi toh ho sakti hain..." he replied turning his back towards her. He didn't have the courage to tell her the truth about her daughter's condition

"Lekin woh hain kya?? " Asha asked worriedly

"Asha...main kaise kahun...tum jaanti ho main Sonakshi se kitna pyaar karta hun...bilkul apni beti ki tarah....agar mere bas mein hota toh main uske liye apni jaan tak de deta.....lekin.....Aa...Asha...usse....usse...usse...

As soon as Asha heard him, her hands turned cold and the folder in her hand fell on the floor. She was too numb to react. It seemed as if the ground has been snatched beneath her feet.

Diwakar hesitatingly walked towards her said, "Asha..tum ek hospital mein kaam karti ho. Tumne life ko bohot closely dekha hai. Medical profession mein hume yeh sikhaya jaata hai ki last moment tak bhi hume hope rakhni chahiye. Himmat rakho Asha....sab theek ho jayeja"

Later that night,

Sonakshi was sleeping peacefully when she woke up due to sounds of someone sobbing. She got up from her bed and went towards her living room. There she saw Asha praying in front of Durga Maa's idol with her hands folded and crying badly. Her heart wrenched on seeing her mother in such a condition. She was about to go and confront her, but then saw Asha slowly coming towards her room after lighting a diya before the Goddess. She quickly got inside her bed and pretended to be in deep slumber.

Asha came close to her, caressed her hair and her face and left crying. Sonakshi immediately shot open her eyes as soon as she was gone. Sleep was far away from her eyes that night....
