So, as I'm sure a lot of you know, I am from Middle Tennessee, and today Lyric, Abby, and I sorta ranted about how the media portrays the south. Here are just some major points we addressed:

Southern Accents

Conversation Topics
So many people think that the only thing we ever talk about is tractors, trucks, beer, hunting, and horseback riding. Okay, we do talk about that kinda think a lot, but I know plenty of five-year-old southerners who have better manners than a grown man from NYC. It doesn't seem like that though, because apparently things we do out of respect is offensive to other people. According to someone from Pennsylvania, calling someone ma'am is rude because you're implying that you think that person is old. Here, if you don't say yes ma'am, no ma'am yes sir, no sir, THAT'S rude.

What We Do For Fun
We don't ride horses for two hours every day, hunt for our dinner every night, or get drunk at midnight. Several people don't even own horses, though most know how to ride. You can't hunt every day, there are laws against that. There's deer season, duck season, turkey season, etc. Despite how they are portrayed in movies, a lot of southern towns don't even have a bar, I think the only place in town that sells beer and lets you drink it in the same place is the Brass Lantern.

How to Ride a Horse
Where do I even begin on this one? You don't need to wear a cowboy hat while riding, especially on a trail ride-the horse only walks where there's enough room for itself and often forgets there's a person on it's back and the hat will fall off very easily, though a helmet is a good idea. You don't need to wear spurs, most people have trained their horses to walk on command such as tapping your heels against the horse's sides, or making clicking or kissing noises. You don't say giddy up, that's just stupid, and if you slap the reins against the horse's neck it will probably buck you off. You don't really need chaps either, just something to cover your legs to keep the girth from irritating your skin.

Southern Towns in General
Okay, the media often portrays southern towns as gravel roads, old buildings, nothing to do. BAEH, WRONG! Southern towns are mostly suburban, only our square, which has been left almost exactly like it was when the town was first founded, and some of the back roads are like in the movies, the rest is like movies where some one lives in a small town. We have a couple of parks, a movie theater, a bowling alley, two community pools, and a skating rink. I think you'd be occupied okay.
