Silly Notion
I had a silly notion
To jump start a creation
I should have used a potion
Not used enumeration
Thesaurus was my resource
To generate a word list
Close eyes, flip pages, odd course
Then point to word to enlist
The final list was absurd
I wanted to throw list out
"Challenge!" old poet's heart heard
This brought an end to my pout
The lyric written follows
Bolded words are from the list
I hope words do not wallow
For the tale may take some twists
Men's Shirts
There was a young woman
Whose life held little joy
World held so much danger
She felt like a decoy
Dirt smudge she put on cheek
And acted like a boy
Shelter was a challenge
Derelict home a find
A careful check required
A part of safety grind
For she must be alone
Others often unkind
Risk of city's hoopla
And prima donna scorn
Drove her to a rural life
Where old clothes often worn
She found a rusty hoe
And she grew her own sweet corn
She worked the dirty jobs
And slowly she found hope
And built her confidence
As she found ways to cope
And her life got better
Although she walked tightrope
Folks figured out her need
And with a nod began
They helped her find a room
Donated an old van
She then revealed to them
That she was not a man
When their shock was over
They all went back to work
Folks thought about their lives
And how assumptions lurk
What drove a young woman
Each day to wear men's shirts
