KYLE ROSE

I sat in the car, silently as Alyssa sat next to me fuming. Ms. Krithner made no effort to start a conversation except for asking where I lived.
"418 Somertree Lane," I responded, politely. As we pulled up to the house, I saw my dad getting out of the car in the driveway. I pulled open the door, and turned to Alyssa who had her brows furrowed in confusion, and said, "Thank you for having me over! I had a lot of fun! I'll return the outfit to you tomorrow."
Alyssa jerked her head towards me and said, "No, it's okay, you can keep it all!", smiling brightly. Now it was my turn to be confused. "Why did Alyssa look like that?" I wondered. My confusion grew as she hopped out of the car to give me a hug. I was about to ask what was going on when she whispered into my ear, "Get your dad to come meet my mom. Trust me." I kept my expression neutral, and walked over to my dad. Alyssa slowly walked back to the car, buying me time.
"Dad! Come meet my friend!" I pulled him over to the car. "This is Ms. Krithner and Alyssa." I said, watching his face carefully. It went from friendly to confused to panicked as realization dawned on him.
. . .

ALYSSA KRITHNER

I sat in the backseat of the car, next to Kyle, red hot furious. Moms just shouldn't just do that! I glared at her through the rearview mirror. She looked like she felt guilty but sure of what she was doing. I sat silently through the entire car ride until we pulled up to Kyle's house. Her dad was getting out of his car and when Mother saw him, her eyes widened and became panicked. I was confused. "Why would Mother be worried to meet-- Oh." I thought, realizing the truth. My mind raced as I thought of my plan. Kyle's voice shook me out of my plotting and I responded chirpily, "No! You can keep it all!" I started to get out of the and Kyle gave me a strange look and opened her mouth to speak. Before she could say anything, I pulled her in for a hug, so I could whisper in her ear, "Get your dad to come meet my mom. Trust me." I hoped she had heard. I started to very slowly trudge around the car, trying to buy Kyle time. She walked over to her dad and I saw them talking, and then Kyle started to pull her dad over to the car. My mom started to get really nervous. Then, it seemed to happen in slow motion, but the parent's eyes met and widened, looked away, then looked back, wishing that it wasn't who it was, right in front of them.
