Steven and Max continued carefully down the corridor in silence, stopping at every turn to check down the next one. They were twisting and turning so much that Max couldn't remember at the end of which hallway they had left David, and he had long since given up memorising the route they were taking- left, right, left, left again... Max's stomach was twisting up with anxiety.

Just as he was about to say something to Steven about leaving a trail, they stopped dead in their tracks at another corner.

"What is it?" Max hissed in Steven's ear.

"Jasper," Steven whispered back.

Max peered round from his spot on Steven's back and saw Jasper, turned away from them.

"Pissing bugger nuts," Max swore. "What the fuck are we gonna do now?"

But before Steven could answer, they heard the sound of running footsteps. Jasper luckily did not, and kept her back to them. Steven and Max turned and saw David, pelting up the corridor, the chair Max was tied to splintered in his hands.

"David!" Max breathed in relief. But David didn't stop and he didn't reply.

He hurtled past them and rounded the corner like an angry bull, and just as Jasper turned to see what the noise was, David leaped into the air, a mad war cry escaping his lips, and smashed the chair down over Jasper's head with almighty force.
Jasper crumpled and lay, unmoving.

"David!" Steven and Max cried with joy.

"Max! Steven! Are you okay?" David rushed over to them.

"That was incredible!" Steven said appreciatively. He gently put Max down off his back and hugged David quickly, then went over to Jasper, and, to Max and David's great shock, stamped as hard as he could on her face. There was a loud poof ing sound and Jasper disappeared in a large cloud.  Steven bent and picked up what was left- a small gem. He created a rosey bubble around it, then tapped it, and it disappeared.

Max and David watched in awe. Then suddenly Max snapped out of it and turned to David.

"David, I'm so sorry for locking you in with Daniel," he said. "How did you escape?"

"Well..." David said nervously. "I think that'll be our next problem..."

"What do you-"

"Daviiiid," they heard Daniel shout in a playful voice from down another corridor. "Why'd you have to run away, David?"
