The Glade was in shambles again. Another night of Grievers thanks to Thomas' misadventures in the Maze. Y/N had been safe so far, but he couldn't say the same for the boy he cared most about. Newt. Newt had bravely been trying to save another Glader and got injured in the process. The Med-Jacks were overwhelmed with other hurt Gladers, so that left Y/N to care for Newt. Not that he minded.

Ever since he came up in the Box, Y/N had taken a liking to the blond boy with the British accent. He never said anything because he didn't want to add more to Newt's already full plate. Y/N pressed a wet cloth to Newt's cuts that were still bleeding, an expression of worry etched on his features. It didn't look very promising for the second-in-command. "Newt," Y/N whispered to the unconscious boy. He hoped Newt would be able to at least hear what he said.

"Come on, Newt. You can't do this now. You can't die on us now. We need you, shank," Y/N said, clearing his throat. He knew it wouldn't do any good to cry right now. That certainly wouldn't help Newt. "Y/N?" The boy in question looked up to see Thomas standing the doorway. "Get out," Y/N told him firmly. "How's he doing?" Y/N glared at the dark-haired boy. "I said 'get out'. Are you deaf as well as a slinthead? This is your fault." Thomas frowned.

"I know. Gally wants to banish me." Y/N nodded. "Good. You should be banished. Things were fine until you came up. Now, get out unless you want to get hurt. I need to punch something and you're the closest to me." Thomas turned on his heel and practically ran from the room. Sighing, Y/N turned his attention back to Newt. He didn't really believe Thomas should be banished. He was just upset.

"Newt, could you maybe wake up? Bad things are happening. The Glade needs you to lead us. Alby's gone and Gally has lost his head." Y/N was whispering again, afraid to wake him before he was ready. Newt groaned in his sleep, making Y/N stop talking for a brief moment. When the boy had settled again, Y/N returned to the conversation he was basically having with himself.

"Don't know why you'd want to wake up though. You shouldn't have to deal with this klunk. Guess I'm being a bit selfish." Y/N ran his hand over his face. "I really like you, Newt. As more than a friend, I mean. I might even love you. Not that it really matters. You're either going to die or you're not going to want anything to do with this kind of thing." Y/N forced himself to stand and stretch, not noticing the pair of brown eyes following his every move.

"You're right," a raspy voice said from the bed, making Y/N whip around. "I shouldn't bloody have to deal with this klunk." Newt tried to sit up, but winced. Y/N was back at his side in an instant, gently pushing Newt's shoulders to get him to lie back down. After taking a drink of water, Newt spoke again.

"I'm fine, Y/N." Y/N shook his head. "No you aren't. A couple of your cuts are still bleeding." Newt shrugged it off as if it were nothing. "That doesn't matter. The Glade matters. Getting out of here matters. The other boys matter. You matter." Y/N's widened in surprise. It only just dawned on him that Newt had heard his confession. Realizing this, Y/N's face grew hot with embarrassment.

Once again, Newt tried to get up, his face contorting in pain. "Newt, you shank, lie still." Newt shook his head and got up anyway. "Now, let's go fix things out there. Then, we can talk about your confession? Good that?" Y/N nodded speechless. Newt smiled. "Good that. Let's go." Newt took Y/N's hand in his and slowly made his way out to the Glade.

Newt sucked in a sharp breath when he saw the damage to the Glade. Y/N gave his hand a reassuring squeeze. "It'll be alright. We can fix this." Newt shook his head. "No. We're not going to fix it. We're getting out of here." Y/N frowned, but knew that Newt was right. "We have to free Thomas and Teresa first. Gally's probably got them in the Slammer by now." Newt ran his hand through his sandy blond hair and agreed. "I have an idea, but I'll need your help." Y/N grinned. He'd follow that boy anywhere. "Anything. Let's leave this place."
