Two hours have passed, more or less, before Odo Island was spotted at the horizon.

The Argo airships continued to carry the two Shiryu units with the cables, slow and steady without pulling brusquely. Moments later they neared onto island, now in front of them big enough to not miss. ["Alright, I got some good news and bad news for today. The good news is that Anguirus is on the far side of the island, far from our reach. The bad news is that if he manages to sense us approaching his territory, he will most likely charge his way towards us on land or tunnel underground. Which is bad for us since this titan has a fierce temper."] Rick said on the radio as they slowly approached the shore of the island. "A good thing we aren't going directly to him. Rather than that, we are going directly to the portal here in Odo Island." Akane said in response as she was prepared to detach from the cables once ordered. ["It's true. Anguirus only attacks if it feels threatened or is provoked. For most of the time, he sleeps like a large spiked and unhumored ball. With any luck, we will not have any confrontations with him."] Chen said on the radio, supporting Akane as she had given a fact she has read from the notes.

When they were about to near the border edge of the island, the Argo airships slowly veered to the left in order to change direction. Based on the information provided by the command center, the portal to Hollow earth on Odo Island was on the far north side of it. To get there, the ships needed to follow a river path that would lead straight to the target. Monarch had already begun preparations on creating a perimeter around such portal, but were not able to fully complete it due to the presence Anguirus and his territorial behavior. Monarch was still learning how to use these portals and establish outposts in few Hollow Earth locations. So it was a relief that the two of them will have a place to stay momentarily when out of the mechagodzillas, Akane especially due to her being the only one present. Besides all that it was nice to see a new place never before visited, with nature surrounding all of Odo island while they traveled over the air. It filled Akane with a sense of inner peace and tranquility, reminding herself of how much she liked the natural world. She was getting lost in some good memories when someone on the radio spoke.

["Target in sight, portal is open and running. Begin detachment procedures"] the one in the radio said, possibly one of the Argo pilots. Akane nearly fumbled on the controls before beginning the procedures. She activated the AI as well, in order to be prepared just in case. When it was activated, the computer screen did something unexpected: it typed [GREETINGS, Lt. AKANE. ALL SYSTEMS ARE READY]. This confused Akane greatly, seeing that before it hasn't done such, and immediately contacted the command center. "Excuse me, command. May I speak to Dr. Simon for a moment?" Akane asked on the radio. A moment passed before a screen popped up with Simon seen in his desk. ["Lieutenant Akane. Is there something the matter?"] Simon asked. "The AI system, it...greeted me. Is it supposed to do that?" Akane asked. ["Well...it is an advanced learning system. So think of it like a newborn learning to walk with you"] Simon said in response. Akane looked back at the screen where the system was, and then got an idea. Typing some keys into the board, Akane wrote "Thank you for your help. I look forwards to working with you, Shiryu" on the system. The AI began to process the response from Akane before doing something unexpected. In place of its original name, designated R-17, it was replaced by the name Shiryu. Seeing this made Akane let out an amused breath, smiling by witnessing how smart the AI was.

Afterwards Rick was heard clearing his throat on the radio. ["Greetings ladies and gentlemen. This is Hollow Earth Airlines speaking. Please fasten your seatbelts, move your trays in the upright position, and follow Monarch standard procedures for portal travel. If you don't have anything to hold on, please hang on to your stomachs."] Rick said on the radio, imitating a flight attendant making the departure announcement. Akane couldn't help letting a chuckle escape her, imagining how Chen must look like as she heard another one of Rick's childish jokes. ["Please be advised that all passengers should fasten your seatbelts and brace for insane turbulence when entering the portal. With that said, thank you for choosing Hollow Earth Airlines."] Rick concluded as the Argos neared the portal site, descending slowly as they reached a few meters above the surface. From their view, it was just in the middle of a large lake, the portal under the water creating a whirlpool as eerie blue lights shone from beneath.

Surrounding the lake which housed the portal were large jagged mountains, creating a natural barrier around it like a hidden cove. Near at the shores were small Monarch outpost buildings that have been recently installed. Not one personnel member was present outside when Akane zoomed into the pictures. Perhaps they were inside or there were a few of them present in another place. Whichever the case, Akane pushed the thought away and focused on the following orders. [Argos 1 and 2 have reached the target zone. Disengage transport."] one of the Argo pilots said. "Roger that. Disengaging transport now." Akane said, pressing some buttons so the cables detached all at the same time. Shiryu, along with Akane inside, dropped down to the lake waters, splashing down and making the ground shake a bit.

Shiryu Kai followed next up, splashing down and stirring up a large amount of water like Shiryu did. ["Both Shiryu units have landed and are in position. Argo confirms."] the other Argo pilot said as the two large aircrafts reeled in the cables and lifted up higher into the air. ["Copy that. Shiryu and Shiryu Kai, activate tracking beacons and proceed to target. Heron squadron, begin descent."] Colonel Togashi said on the radio. "Understood" Akane, Rick, amd the pilots said simultaneously, waiting for the comman center to confirm their beacon activation before starting to move, across the lake waters towards the portal. The four Heron aircrafts flew above them before nosediving into the portal, splashing down into the water and disappearing in the whirlpool. ["All Heron units have entered the portal. Awaiting response"] the command center said on the radio as both Shiryu units continued making their way through the lake waters.

Both were only a few yards away when Akane could have sworn that the ground trembled.

"Did you feel that?" Akane said, making Shiryu stop in its tracks. ["What is it?"] Rick asked, making Shiryu Kai stop as well. "I...I feel the ground shaking" Akane said, looking around the place carefully as she tried to feel for any tremors. ["The Shiryu units are as heavy as a titan. That's why they produce shaking. You must be confused."] Rick said to her. "No. I swear that I felt the ground shake...as if something is underneath..." Akane said, looking around more as she was now prepared for what would come. Rick was seen in the screen noticing that Akane wasn't imagining things, and immediately turned to his other computer to search for acoustic sounds.

Immediately right after, Shiryu's warning alarms began to blare as the radar detected something. "Command center! What is happening?" Akane said as she piloted Shiryu to turn around and face any sort of danger that would come their way. ["Shiryu units, be advised! Titan activity rapidly approaching your location! Remain on guard and engage at your discretion!"] the command center said. ["I'm picking up its acoustic pattern! The pattern...it's ninety percent Anguirus! It's getting near!"] Rick said on the radio, his voice switching from focused to tense as his face in the screen showed anxiety. ["Anguirus hasn't left his nesting place. Unless...it's another of his species!"] Chen was heard saying. Rick was about to counter that statement when more proximity alarms began to blare. ["Shiryu units! Proceed to your target immediately! I repeat: Proceed to your target imm-!"] Colonel Togashi was heard shouting when all of a sudden the ground from one of the mountains erupted, near the portal site. Debris was scattered all over the place, some large rocks landing in the lake. Dust flooded the nearly the entire area, restricting visibility. Akane made Shiryu brace itself and be ready as she scanned the area. The lock on cursor on the optics screen spotted a dark shape rising from the ground and focused the screen there. From beneath the ground rose up a large and hulking quadrupedal shape, smaller than Godzilla but still large and covered with spikes. Then, when the dust settled and the sunlight shone upon the creature, it gave out a bellowing roar as Akane saw its true shape.

There was no doubt that this was Anguirus, the armored titan.

["Confirmed! Its Anguirus! Anguirus is confirmed to have left its place and risen at Shiryu's designation point!"] one from the command center shouted on the radio. Akane just stared at the large spiked quadruped titan that has emerged from the mountain's base, tensing up as the massive creature turned its snout to the two Shiryu units. ["Colonel! Sir! Please, I ask permission that we use the titan resonator! We do not want to engage in unnecessary fighting!"] Rick was heard in the radio saying. ["Its true! Fighting him will not do us any good! This titan is a protector too, like Godzilla"] Chen said, supporting Rick. Akane was unable to say anything yet due to her having Shiryu have eye contact, or head contact, with Anguirus. The large spiked titan just stood there, glaring down menacingly at the two mechanized titans as its tail lashed furiously. ["Permission granted. Engage the resonators."] Colonel Togashi said afterwards although it felt like an eternity. Right after Shiryu Kai straightened up and its chest vents glowed red, starting to make the acoustic sound that would calm the titan. Akane was unable to activate her own resonator due to her still standing there, frozen in place with fear. She shouted to herself mentally to do something, but her hands did not respond and rather shook. Anguirus began to hear the acoustic noise given off by the second mechanized titan, seeming to calm down for a moment...before it suddenly gave a fierce bellow and started to charge towards them. "CRAP!!!" Akane cursed in japanese as her fight and flight instincts activated and piloted Shiryu to run towards Shiryu Kai near the portal. ["Wait! Akane! I can still-!"] Rick was heard on the radio before Akane suddenly, without even thinking straight, rammed Shiryu Kai with her own unit as Anguirus rapidly closed in on them, the armored titan splashing into the lake.

The two machines clashed with each other, toppling right into the whirlpool and portal.
